It is thundering and lightning-ing and lashing with rain. Waaaah! Had to drive home in it. I don't mind from inside a house , I do mind being out in it !
Busy day.
Cut grass first thing. Said good morning and thank you to the bin men!
Dog walk with H ( who was very rude to all other dogs and chased a cat) and his old lady.
All hoovering, floors washed and ironing done. Bathrooms are clean. Throws and sofa covers washed and dried.
Went to skinny club. Had a blether with friend.
Went another dog walk with a much better behaved dog...a lady commented on how lovely he was. Aye! Sometimes!
Made strawberry jam with the remains of last weekends strawberries. Just enough for one pot and it's ever so delicious. Made a pot of lentil soup too.
Portioned up some soup and curries for sons lunches.
Had takeaway for tea.
Niece came and we went to a fabulous evening from our local musical society, it was just superb and free. Thunder and lightning started when it was on second half. We all got soaked even with a brolly.
Waiting on a text from son to let me know he's arrived at his destination safely. Should be another half an hour or so.0 -
It clouded over just long enough for us to miss the lunar eclipse. Now a clear night with the moon out. No rain...
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Hens OK.
3) Made omelettes for lunch.
4) Car has been written off due to its age. I asked if I can "buy it back" from the insurers and they're thinking about it. I had to email them photos from all angles to show that it is roadworthy!
5) Took all the plaster from the old kitchen ceiling to the tip. 31 degrees while I was unloading all that.
6) Roast pork for tea then strawberry Eton Mess.
7) Did the house insurance for my grandparents' house (or what was their house) as it has been rented out for a few years now. Saved mum and dad over £100.
8) Watched Gardeners World and the Last Leg.
9) Bigger son appeared to have a shower this morning and said his work last night (in a local hotel) had been great as they'd had a Roma wedding. It cost £30,000 and included a cake that was a life sized cake wedding dress! He always gets a meal at the end of the night (leftovers) and they had chosen really nice food as well.
10) It's a bit cooler with a breeze!
11) Nearly forgot - booked up ZipWorld in Blaenau Ffestiniog for when we go on holiday at the end of the month. Zipwires first then trampolining in the cavern. I shall be a spectator.0 -
Mrs LW I can completely relate to the daily tip runs and accumulation of useful things.
1 Popped DH to docs for the monitor to be removed, and I walked/melted up to the hospital for my tests and booked in again for next weeks apt.
2 I re stocked the birdie feeders, they are a pleasure for all.
3 My food plan is being stuck to sort of, I am finding it impossible not to eat later in the day as quite frankly I am a night owl through and through.
4 Dropped a car load of CS stuff off to the local hospice shop, where they take everything, had parking around the back and were lovely and helpful.
5 There has been thunder and a tiny bit of rain, a lot of cloud, I aw a hint of red but nothing through the cloud.0 -
It finally rained so stood outside for the first five minutes :T unfortunately the cloud cover meant we didn’t get to see the eclipse - yah, boo sucks
New taps fitted by plumber - so no more leaks :T
Having enough money in my splurge purse to pay the plumber :T
Watching the squirrel lying splayed out flat on the decking under the table to escape yesterday’s heat
Seeing the fox sauntering down the road looking for food

Awake at silly o'clock!
It's finally raining! It was really windy last night which scared our nervous spaniels as the curtains were blowing into the room and the door blew shut before I propped it open, but too hot to shut doors/windows, so not a good evening! But I can hear the lovely pitter-pat now:)
It's the weekend :j:j
Really good book (lent by my sister) which I can't put down
OH got on a roll yesterday and sorted all our card debt onto 0% deals so we can get down to planning a proper repayment schedule and even begin to see when we can start on overpaying the mortgage :j:j
He also found travel insurance for him with his stents at a not-too-high price - and he didn't actually book it so I can do it and get 13% cashback :j0 -
Friday pleasures,
A thunderstorm woke me at 4.30am and cooled the air just enough for me to do a few jobs first thing, this included picking up all the tiny green apples culled by the tree. Spaniel helped by running around me in circles with several in her mouth.
Out to farm shop mid morning, heated up again and the air conditioning not working in shop, the poor staff were melting in uniforms. Picked up some cherries and nectarines, noticed they had a new veggie range which looked interesting if a tad expensive.
Home and Capt S had filled dog paddling pool, small dog was very wet but happy.
Heat built up and built up until stifling, finally the clouds started bubbling up and I sat on back door step watching the lightning display in the distance gradually getting closer.
Over two months of drought and the one night we wanted clear skies it was chucking it down so no lunar eclipse for us, oh well the grass is happy!0 -
Morning all - 'nother day, 'nother train. Homeward bound....
and :j
Pleasures for last few days
1. lovely lovely France - lovely (if hot and humid) weather, lovely people (though i met very few actual French people), lovely food
2. Lovely friend for putting up with me, though I think i am a fairly undemanding house guest
3. Lovely rivers and lakes for swimming in and cooling off in
4. Lovely, welcoming expat community for feigning interest in me
5. Lovely wine - who knew that i'd be drinking so much rose
6. Lovely, wonderful in fact, music events - i saw a bossa nova type pair of women, the guitarist of whom was superb; a trio of female singers singing songs from around the world - this was in an old chapel and the acoustics were sublime, as were their voices; and a folk-rock band who would not have been out of place at Glastonbury. All free, or for contributions
7. Lovely 18 month old half Rwandan half Belgian twins. I was tempted to kidnap one but she started nicking my chips so i gave her back
8. Lovely on-line university for giving me another semester's work to help pay for trips like this.
I really like it here, but I don't belong. Lovely to visit but i don't really mind leaving - though when you go somewhere on holiday you know that it isn't real life, this is my friend's real life during the summer....I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Land of the wet and wild here and a tad cool! We've just came home ( was out maybe 2 hours ) parasol whipped up out of table and across garden and all broken!
For today : been a bit of a sobby kind of day. Much missing of my husband .
Son away. Did he text last night? No. But he did return my call to say he was there. He'd wild camped last night where there was no signal.
Daughter was a very sleepy head so plans didn't happen.
Made summer veg soup. Stewed some rhubarb.
Cleared the cupboard at top of stairs. It backs on to my ensuite shower. There's a damp smell. However , builders start week after next so will ask them to have a look then rather than get someone else. Got rather waylaid with photo albums ( cue sobbing) , listening to music ( more sobbing) . Contents of cupboard all over my floor and bed!
Started third library book after finishing second one earlier.
Also in the cupboard is my wedding dress which DD tried on . It just looks so dated ( but beautiful) huge puffball sleeves, big bow on bum. Bought 26 years ago!
Popped over to friends. Had some dinner and a chat. It was wild outside. Horizontal rain.
Though had managed to get a load of washing dried in the wind and picked some sweet peas from garden.0 -
1 I was rudely woken up by rain flying in the window and then onto me:rotfl:, that was a wake-up call to close the windows, I did laugh a tad, it was part of a massive thunderstorm and we have a scout camp over the wall - there was all sorts of girly screaming coming from that direction, ahh so maternal.:rotfl:
2 A lot of stuff to keep on top of especially with animals and a sick animal, but all done, and its perfect weather for drying washing.:)
3 Caught a programme about billionaire life styles odd issues to have.
4 I went out to Mr T for RTC’s, I picked up some bad bits like cookies and cake that I couldn’t make for that price, some of my favourite carnations. Nice luxuries at small prices.
5 Just made a chickpea turmeric onion and garlic korma, with coconut rice, it was tasty and hopefully reasonably healthy, however the Cadbury caramel doughnuts as dessert weren’t.:cool:0 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday).
1) Not the best of sleeps. Lay awake a few times waiting for it to rain - and it didn't!
2) Hens well, 3 eggs.
3) Did a lot of cooking today including making up a few recipes. Made smoked salmon tartlets, used up some peaches from the fridge in some other little pies and made a lemon meringue pie. Had some LO pork from last night so made a stir fry.
4) Picked bigger son up from his pub and (again!) it had been a little bit on fire!! Last time, the fat in the grill caught on fire and it spread up the wall and set fire to some kitchen towels. This time, the mains wire going into the pub set on fire and scorched up the wall - they had to call a fire engine!
5) Dropped some stuff off at the charity shop with bigger son and he got a T shirt (Casual Friday?? He says it a posh Scandinavian make) and I got a t shirt also.
6) Temperature dropped from 31 degrees yesterday to 13 this afternoon! And (finally) some rain.
7) Watched Casualty.
8) Played football with smaller son but he seems to be going through a growth spurt so his legs ache.0
