5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Highdays

Morning all.

The weather rumbles on, our thunderstorms came to nothing and certainly didn't clear the air. Bit cooler today thankfully. All a bit tedious for someone whose favourite month is January but we are getting through it.

Some pleasures:

1. Fans, and plenty of them.
2. Easy meals with a minimum of cooking, nobody is that hungry anyway.
3. Little chappie is back safely from his residential. He managed fine but several activities were cancelled due to the heat. Four more days til he gets his plaster off.
4. The bank of grandma to the rescue again as eldest grandson had miscalculated the last month of rent on their uni house. Luckily he has a job interview today for some holiday work.
5. Nothing urgent to be done, we can coast through the hot spell and catch up on jobs in the cooler weather.

DH has overdone it but is gladly taking it easy now, currently sat the air-conditioned room, taking something apart and putting it back together again, I’ve lost track of what. 😊

We sat out in the garden with a cuppa and the ferrets having an hour run about before putting themselves back in the house from 10pm to 11pm.

Boring but apparently necessary sorted out the freezer food for space, and trying to clear down a freezer as I’m desperate to defrost it.

Not MSE, but also is a bit mse sort of, grocery delivery later this evening.

I have often wished to be allowed to put suffering menfolk into the optimum environment for their healing but whenever I try to source a cage that'll hold a single mattress, they get a bit tetchy. Lady mother, as a former GP, Is also an Appalling Patient - we suggested hiring a four poster bed so we could bandage her sound ankle to a bedpost & my father roared with laughter but said he rather thought all was easier where she could keep tabs on him (true, so we offered to tether him to the bed as well - again, the sudden sense of humour failure.)

PK I think you are doing wonderfully providing him with an airconditioned room (!) & something to furtle with. I got quite a few Looks when I had a Bren gun delivered, but it kept himself happily preoccupied for weeks & made the next trip over to see his parents even more memorable as his father had joyful flashbacks to various Immediate Actions drills & happily re-enacted them first in the narrow hall, then with a neighbour, in their back garden. The womenfolk collectively rolling their eyes & muttering that at least the children are playing happily… May the safe calm comfortable activity and healing continue even as the temperature settles to a less gruesome level!

Gosh just realised I never pressed post last night!

Back to our normal summer weather here. Cool breezy but dry.

An absolutely awful day. The Pup was too unwell and the kindest thing to do was the hardest thing to do. We had time to spend with him beforehand. He was only three years old and the loveliest boy. Our hearts are all broken but it’s so hard to watch your own child’s heart break too.

The good bits of the day. As I have to look for joys each day.

A baby …walked round to get her at 7.30am…in utter contrast to yesterday, wearing a cardigan. Nice walk there and back.

Having time to say goodbye.

The kindness of friends.

Washing dry. Had put out the big blankets I’d had on the sofa when I was sleeping on it.

A packet of M&S biscuits…it’s actually all I’ve eaten today. I’ll do better tomorrow.

FaceTime with baby and DD1 this morning for an hour as I got baby washed and dressed. She read her her story. A counting book with Australian animals. Auntie duties are taken very seriously. And she sent a lovely message after the vets.

A daddy collecting his girl. I’d suggested they go home together and just be for a while , rest and be sad. So I had her here all day. And it’s good that I’m trusted to take care of her at mine.

So, so sorry to hear about your daughter’s Pup. Even when we know it is the right thing to do, it’s still heartbreaking to make that decision. Sending love.

Oh, dashit. There can be no consolation, but that Pup was adored every day of his life & he got to meet the baby.
May noone around them say "he was only" when I have held the hands & passed the tissues of widows & others bereaved who are struck a-heap by the grief of the loss of the one friend who really got them.
