- Another duff temperature forecast 👎 - never 18⁰, maybe 8⁰. Coat and scarf essential in chilly Fen wind, despite sun, for long walk to church+back after 2½ extra hours of service team duties. Hwb and bed since. Felt cold, weary, +coughing and sneezing, meds taken.🤞
- This was a 'had to finish' long haul read, so suited & this arvo - see osp 1 - 'The Coral Bride', Roxanne Bouchard, translated from the French. Strange, haunting - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54918185-the-coral-bride.
- Crochet teddy begun.
- Again enjoyed, except that isn't quite the right word, repeat of Ronnie O'Sullivan's compelling DID. It's relatively recent, a 2024 extended version from 2023: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002v848. Then this delicious Elizabeth von Arnim omnibus, 'The Enchanted April' -https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b05ssp09
- Recipient v.pleased with a pottery salt pig & saved from chuck-out post-jumble yesterday. Lovely piece - classic Pornic MBFA, white glazed with Pornic's distinctive blue trefoil. As person has UK and international honours for Guiding involvement over decades, the trefoil spoke!😃👍👏

Evening all 😊
FiveSix recent pleasures:-- DS2 turned up for a flying visit last night.
- Next door neighbour at my house - although still no idea when I'll be able to move in - gave me an unwanted water butt.
- DS1 pressure washed the greenhouse, the new water butt and my growbag trays, then cleaned the gutters – super star.
- I washed all the terracotta pots that had been left in storage for a few years, weeded half the patio and did other weeding and tidying.
- The perfect mix of sunshine and gentle warmth.
- And the sheep and their lambs are still in the huge field. It was mid-afternoon when I drove past them on my way home and so many of the lambs were sleeping next to their resting mums, sometimes using her as a pillow. Just lovely.
Sweet dreams

For yesterday
- Preoared a lasagna for dinner first thing. It means no temptation to resort to take away later. It was very tasty and one for the freezer and enough for a couple of lunches this week.
- Visited a local garden as they had a plant show on. The garden looked good with tulips and bluebells.
- Met DS1 and DIL for an early lunch. It was enjoyable.
- Spent afternoon in the garden and achieved quite a lot. Put up an outdoor thermometer which I have been meaning to do for ages. DH cut down some cobnut tree branches. Lots of logs now.
- Chat with neighbours in the garden. We had a laugh.

Good evening Been another bright but chilly day.
Ampersand - I enjoyed Enchanted April too. Was going to give O Sullivan DID a miss ( total disinterest in sport) but will trust your recommendation 😀
Paulie H - love the tales of how well your move is coming together. We moved here when we got married, over 50 years ago, and here we still are! Am sure I couldn't face moving now!
Village Life - I think we should put you in charge of the NHS! Such good ideas shouldn't go to waste.
A good weekend.
DS and oldest DGD came round for coffee Saturday morning to tell us about their American trip and share photos. That was good. Then Sunday morning we went to meet DD at our favourite cafe. So a good weekend all round except for DH lingering cough and cold. He is having trouble shaking this one off.
Tomorrow another funeral to attend. Second in a fortnight. Another neighbour who had lived independently until very recently. He was 92. A lovely man !
Time for tea!
Happy evening everyone

Happycas the nhs needs a complete overhaul and people who interact with patients should be listened to but unfortunately it’s all about money now.
For yesterday- My non working Monday which is always a pleasure.
- Managed to sow seeds both directly into the garden and some in pots.
- Had lunch outside in the sun.
- Long chat with my mum on the phone.

Evening all 😊
Ampersand, I’d missed your comment about The Enchanted April – lovely book, a favourite. 😊 Get better soon.
Frith, ten days off is bliss!
Five recent pleasures: -
- Several phone calls from DS1 over the last few days supporting me over some tricky stuff I’ve got to sort out.
- Cooked a gorgeous cannellini bean and cabbage dish for supper last night with enough left for two more meals.
- After going round the houses trying to locate the right person to talk to by phone in various government departments, I eventually ended up speaking with a lovely woman who understood what I was talking about and was able to help.
- Discovered some forgotten loyalty points from when I bought a few jigsaws six months ago and there were enough to get a 1000 piece puzzle that I’d had my eye on for a while so I treated myself for free.😊
- Bumped into a postie whom I knew well from my previous work who was delivering a parcel to a neighbour. It was unexpected to see him - a really lovely guy - and we had a nice chat.
Sweet dreams

Bedtime for me ! More to be cosy and quiet than tired!
For Monday.
Sat working from 7.30am till I was done, writing. Hoovered. Washings out.
Nice chat to DD1.
Chauffeur duties again for DD2. Whilst she was busy I went a wander and found a charity shop. Got a set of fully length curtains , a lovely dress and 2 linen tops for a grand total of £7.00 Cash only…so the other people in the shop were spending a grand total of a pound on a jigsaw and didn’t have cash so I bought them a jigsaw…I hate jigsaws…they gave me the absolute ick but it’s nice to be nice!
Dropped her off home and off doggy and I went to CP. Nice walk when we got there and then had a very quiet late afternoon /early evening. zero wifi and hadn’t downloaded anything so I just sat and read. And didn’t take the book I’m halfway through so I’m now half way through another book 😆
Had an early night…hot water bottles filled and slept reasonably well by caravan standards…it’s always soooo quiet when I wake in the night!
Anyway up at 5am and out at 5.30am as the sun was rising. Then saw two deers in the field…and couldn’t see any sheep but thought they were maybe still sleeping. Pheasants squawking as they do, woodpeckers pecking, male hens being noisy…it ain’t quiet early mornings in the countryside!Back and had a shower and a wee snoozette then time to get up! Hoovered, washed floors, washed decking, swept up the paths, cleaned the windows inside, cleaned the loo and bathroom.Very industrious…however it really doesn’t take terribly long to do it!
And thought another quick walk before we go so drive up to the top carpark and right in front of me on the grass were two deer! Like wow! So doggy didn’t get off lead as he would normally do although we couldn’t see them by now. And all rather strangely 4 fields of sheep had disappeared ( which is maybe why the deer were back out as I haven’t seen them since the sheep have been there.
And home we came. Nice drive home.
Over to DD2 for an hour and then home for a quick change and back out for a hospital appointment of which I despaired of getting a space. And people park so selfishly and dangerously double parking, on corners, up on grass, so we went round a couple of times and then I saw someone go into their car, so they were reversing their teeny tiny smart car out of a space but I wiggled my car into the space! And knew I’d probably made someone’s afternoon when we left half an hour later! Sigh!
And home. Hello doggy how lovely to finally sit down and give you a cuddle.
Sun had been shining but there’s been a cool breeze.
Friend called for a chat.

Evening all.
Another lovely sunny day in our neck of the woods, warm but a tad breezy.
A tough few days. Youngest brother's blood tests and waiting for results, and my sister had another heart attack and suspected TIA and was rushed back into hospital. The waiting is excrutiating. Good news re brother, seems his radiotherapy and hormone treatment are keeping the nasties at bay still. Sister's recorder thing shows that her heart stopped which is why BIL couldn't find a pulse but she didn't, they think, have a stroke. Tests and more tests, X rays and scans and now she is to be moved for more detailed scans to a bigger hospital. She was due to go abroad to celebrate her 60th next month and that won't be happening and had just got the all clear to drive again but that's off the cards again too but she seems to be slowly recovering, just need to find out why it happens and what else they can do for her. Very scary for her and hubby.
Some pleasures:
A reminder to hunt out my copy of The Enchanted April, I will enjoy a re-read of one of my favourites.
A trip to the local, renowned bluebell woods, had thought we might be a week or two early but they were at the peak of perfection with the sun shining through the new growth on the trees. Just sublime and I cried at the beauty of them - again! They get me every year.
Moved all my treasures and craft stuff back into my summerhouse ready for another summer of playing and pottering in my little happy place.
Went to see little fella playing Captain Hook in the school's production of Peter Pan. Took middle grandson with us. My heart was very full and I cried - again!
A mixed bag of a week and it's only Tuesday. Hoping now for a little bit of calm and maybe a better night's sleep tonight.
Sleep tight.
