Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) My sister came round to collect some crochet for the new baby. She is now 35 weeks pregnant.
3) A friend came round at the same time to look where part of my patio is crumbling. I've got to try and get some bricks.
4) Coffee morning. We did a crossword and played chess.
5) Another silly shift at work. The manager who started 2-3 weeks ago has left. I now have the 7th manager in 12 months. This one is known to hate women. Happy days...
6) Got home and did smaller son's passport application. I took us a while to get a photo where he wasn't laughing, mainly because he's 30cm taller than me so I had to hold the phone up in the air to get his face in!
7) Watching television now.
Storm Amy has started.7 -
lols mhags you'll be first to know

3) the weather declined so I spent the afternoon watching The Guest - very good
4) friend's 75th at the pub - good fun and yes mhags I spent most of the evening chatting to DrM
5) got home safely - did consider hailing a cab a couple of times (normally it's a 14 min walk)MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

For yesterday,
A few admin jobs in the morning, good to cross off my list.
Yucky day weather wise with heavy rain so the horses were kept in. Went over to see my beauty and she was happy enough in her stable, topped up her hay net and gave her a treat ball.
Listening to Melinda Gates on WH, with great wealth comes great responsibility and she at least is trying, particularly regarding women’s health.
Not an afternoon to be out so cosied up with C dog and watched an old Marple, Nemesis one of my favourite stories.
Cauli cheese pie and roasted veg for tea then the usual Friday night tv.7 -
Oh my goodness at the weather! Amy was certainly a- storming! My morning has not gone quite to plan so far! Boiler wasn’t working so had to get dressed having just been about to jump into shower 😆…clamber over the tonne of logs in middle of garage and restart the boiler…and thought as I’m here I might as well restock the log basket and as I’m here and scruffy I might as well go into the garden and put the furniture back where it is supposed to be….it was strewn across the garden and the heavy storage box was upside down and across the garden! So I’ve now had my shower!Anyway for Friday.
Up early and out into rush hour traffic early to get to work. I always like to give myself loads of time so I know I’m there. So I was in plenty of time but so was the family! They had all arrived early too! A lovely service. Two out of three done.Went to garage to get my exhaust checked. I have a clunky noise with car at times when I’m going round a roundabout. And I have to go round a roundabout to get out of my estate ! Anyway they had it up high and gave it a good check but nothing obviously loose.
Then I’ve been thinking of a new ( to me) car for a while. And the garage where I bought this one had a nice one in the forecourt, so went in had a test drive , was going to purchase it but they are £200 less than I was hoping for as a trade in…so I have walked away! I know my wee car is worth more than they were offering! And I know it’s only £200 but! It’s the principle…told the chap that ( who was going on his managers say so) and left. See ya! I’ll keep clunking for now!And whilst all this was going on Storm Amy had started in earnest it was blowing and lashing! Lots of surface water.Picked up a cake that had been kindly made for me by a friend…it’s still in the clunky car 😆 was too wet to go out and get!And home, hello doggy, I am definitely not going back out!Fire on.Chats to sister and friend. And just had to watch and listen to the storm. Waah! I don’t much like the big winds.Went to bed but woken up at midnight by a dog wanting out! Which is when I realised my garden was upside down! He was kind of looking at me like ‘eh what’s going on!’Today is a day for baking and making and cooking, Have a houseful of people later. So should really get a wriggle on!Have a great day7 -
Good afternoon. Wild and windy here but nowhere near as bad as in some areas. Put all garden furniture away the other day so nothing to blow about anyway.
Frith - work sounds awful. Were you not meant to be changing jobs? Or is this the new one? I hope something better comes along soon
D Doll - glad you're enjoying your holiday. Although it sounds very busy. But we wouldn't expect anything else from you 😀
Definitely wintry, so soup for lunch with garlic bread. Think I overdid the garlic a touch! No vampires in our house!
Summer jackets all washed on a bright day earlier in the week and all neatly stored now. Big garden pots emptied. Need some winter bedding plants now but only fill a couple for winter. Will sort that next week.
Watching The Hack. Blimey it's convoluted! As I'm sure it must have been at the time. Daren't do my usual dozing for a few minutes or I'd never catch up!
Good though.
Happy windy day everyone. Hope everyone is safely sheltered somewhere x

@Happycas - I'm at the same job, though our roles changed a bit in April.
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1).Not a bad sleep, though woken once or twice by the storm.
2) Walked to the post office to post smaller son's documents for his new passport. Took photos of branches blown off trees on the way, to send to my brother.
3) Had a cup of tea in the volunteer run cafe on the big park.
4) The Italian bakery was open (they run it out of their garage) so I bought sausage rolls, nice bread and cannelloni.
5) Saw some graffiti in our little park and the warden replied to my text within 2 seconds!
6) Did 2 loads of washing.
7) Listened to our football team on the radio.
8) Phone my school friend.

It has been wonderful, and looking forward already to the next one! I am pleased to say I haven't looked at any work emails (sneaky peak, 551 unread, but have promised DrM I won't look at them till Monday - fair to say I was almost at burn out point and took me till Wednesday to start to feel normal, well as normal as I get 🤣)D Doll - glad you're enjoying your holiday. Although it sounds very busy. But we wouldn't expect anything else from you 😀
1) having enjoyed the Perrault folio collection of fairy tales decided to read the Hans Christian Anderson collection (Folio editions bought from Oxfam over the years) - took a cuppa back to bed
2) checked phone and oops hair appointment in 25 mins - takes 15 mins to walk there so very quick wash and dress - made it
3) friend does a monthly soup event at her church - #72 goes to the door (takes nearly an hour each way so got quite a bit of HCA read), pea and ham, delicious and bought a couple of books from their table (Yes Prime Minister vols 1 & 2)
4) walked doggie combined with litter pick (52 items which takes me to 1509 this year, aiming at 2025)
5) then binged series 3 of Blue Lights - excellent - then HIGNFY then zzzzzzzMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

nd the wild weather continues into Sunday morning! I think there’s to be less rain today. Yesterday was wild. The heaviest of showers then dry and very windy. I literally got buffeted home yesterday and at one point had to pull over as could hardly see the rain was so heavy.Anyway after my plans had changed ( birthday lunch had changed to birthday tea) I went out at 10am to pick up a box of baked goodies. Quick chat with baker chap. Then onto an event I thought I’d have to miss because of lunch…but that was now tea so I could go! Friend has a holistic business so it was their open day and they were offering short taster sessions of the things they offer…so I had a facial, some reiki, reflexology, back massage and it was lovely. I have not had a call to say I won a raffle prize though 😆 it was a lovely 90 minutes of chatting with others and being very relaxed! Then supermarket. Floated round. 😆 and then oh my goodness the heavy rain! And then the big wind…got whooshed home! And then was just about to make my meringues when DD2 texted so dog and I went to get her…dog came as there was other food about in the kitchen! So we went to pick her and the pup up and bring them here, as The Chap was coming once he had finished work. Made meringues ( which were lovely and I always say/think when I eat them…I make a good meringue 😆 ) and little top hat marshmallows. The niecelys arrived with an extra person ( GN friend) and we had a very nice tea with lots of laughter and chatter and FaceTimed my sister ( which G Nephew couldn’t quite get that his Granny was my sister!)
And then they were all gone! And doggy and I said sigh, loaded the dishwasher and watched Strictly! And then went to bed!8 -
For yesterday.
Up and at the farm shop for opening with C dog in tow, the conservatory at the back that allows dogs had flooded a bit in the storm so we were towards one side a tad but enjoyed our breakfast out, veggie cooked for me as I like their mushrooms! Picked up some snorkers & bacon from the butchers counter.
Baking morning, made a loaf and some rock cakes. The weather got worse and the bird feeders went flying but luckily that was it for wind damage.
A tiny blue t*t trying to balance on the side of the water feature for a drink, luckily it gave up and had a drink from the saucer instead!
The horses were in again so spent afternoon with my girlie, gave her a treat ball and listened to the footie, United won.
Lovely sunset but the lamps are on by 7 now.6 -
Mornng all.
Hopefully the worst of the storm is over and not too much damage done. The wind got up here again during the night but a quick glance out this morning showed everything seemed to be ok.
Some pleasures:
1) The weekend has given us a breather from school runs and the mad pre-school scramble to get out of the door with the right things on the right day. We are used to much gentler starts to the day these days and had forgotten how short the days seem to be with a 3.30 pick up somehow drawing a line under the afternoon. So we have appreciated a couple of more relaxed days before off we go again for the next three days.
2) Flu jabs for us both yesterday. Very efficient production line set up at the surgery meant we were in and out within minutes and very grateful to have had them done.
3) A very easy day planned for today, just a bit of poodling and pottering. Very rarely watch telly during the day but tempted to settle down this aft with Butch Cassidy and a cuppa. How decadent!
4) Making some plans already for next year. Couple of theatre and overnight trips booked and looking at some more places we want to visit and things we want to do. Carpe diem and all that.
5) Possibly still too early to mention the C........ word but my thoughts are turning to soaking fruit and checking ingredients for a cake that will benefit from a good dousing in Amaretto and a couple of months of being well wrapped up and sitting in a cool pantry. Might dig the old faithful recipe out today to have a look.
Goodness, somehow all of that seems very tame and boring - like a couple of oldies resting and recovering from a mad couple of weeks. Yep, that'll be us then!
Hope you have a good (and restful if you need it too) day. Happy Sunday!7
