5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Wow Admiral - looking good all dressed up.
Looking for places around here to go for tea - that don't cost an arm and a leg. Many of my favorite places to eat have closed in the last couple of years. Running out of places that do simple, uncomplicated foods - don't like the fancy stuff. I can travel around the world eating here - but trying to find a place that does a good chicken sandwich is almost impossible. We don't even have pubs for lunch. I wish my garden centers had cafes. Wish we had as many options as some of you do. Don't even have churches and cathedrals with cafes in them.

A nonstop day, Quiz night in The Alma as we speak. Have birthday token bits for patron's boys.🙂
1. Heard ths wonderfully onomatopoeic lump of Robert Southey's Ladore poem on Michael Rosen's 'Word of Mouth', with Dr Catherine Laing, on R4. Just fabulous:

Circa 27mins in.👏😃
2. Dropped off birthday bits to young rugby friends. Late add-on was emporium's last 3 bottles of special ale with Women's🏉 World Cup Final tickets as prize. 🤞🤞🤞, however unlikely we thought.😁
3. Intriguing talk and fascinating: "Lemurs of the Lost World -Three zoological expeditions to Madagascar in 1981, 1986 and 2024".
Would never have had the slightest idea how remarkably accomplished she is, not of her life's path, sparked by David Attenborough, by her talk tonight, simple, understated:

4. One of &'s in-house emporium vouchers was for 😋pains aux raisins, happily sitting in the rtc's, so treat at 45p, not £2.65!
5. Well, amazingly, almost-7-son-of-patron has just descended, wide awake, post-quiz, meaning we've had a totally unexpected happy handover of both birthday pillowcases and suitable conversation.👏🙂

For yesterday,
Bit of a tough old night sleep wise as there was an alarm going off at the depot across the by-pass from 9pm until gone 2am! We did speak to someone in the gatehouse who said that it was a carbon dioxide one in a locked part of the building and they were waiting on an engineer to come to sort it out, that was at 11pm! Around 1ish we were seriously contemplating breaking in ourselves 🙈
Anyways, up, coffee and into horsey town to visit the emporium.
Then over to see my big girl, bit of work done over poles then I put her back out into the field and stayed with her for a while, watching her graze and day dreaming. Her paddock is at the top of a bit of a hill and looks out across a valley so good views to contemplate.
Bit sleepy after lunch so closed my eyes only to be woken up 10 minutes later by a large Labrador’s face inches away from mine, so out we went for a game in the garden.
Tasty tea of pork steaks with apple slices, our tree is laden down this year.7 -
Morning all.
Here we are, Friday again and another week has zipped by. A glorious autumn morning here, sunny but with a lovely nip in the air, just right.
Recent pleasures:
1) Couple of days away midweek, all went very smoothly and the theatre (Blood Brothers) was excellent. A lovely couple of days and felt like we had had a real break.
2) Long time since we had been out at night in the dark (!) for dinner, felt very buzzy afterwards strolling through the busy city with all the lights - we really have turned into country bumpkins!
3) Enjoyed a couple of hours browsing the big stores we no longer have, managed to buy a lovely coat and got some excellent styling advice from a very helpful sales lady. All set for a stylish autumn. Started sorting my wardbrobe when we got home to reflect the 'new me'.
4) A day pottering at home yesterday, getting my house in order for the change in seasons. Autumnal dishes are now on the menu and candles at the ready for the darker nights. Own bed was - as always - a luxury.
5) Off to the new posh cinema this afternoon to see 'The Roses', all big squashy chairs and suchlike, very smart. Will have a walk in the sunshine with my bairn at lunchtime and then get ready.
Enjoy your Friday whatever you are up to, hopefully in the sunshine.6 -

Not sure how I follow that photo PP😆
I’ll try my best!!
For Thursday:
Up early.Had work mid morning, meeting new family. Who were just so lovely.Bags were packed so quick change when I got in and off we went to CP.
Had a nice walk and then DD2 and The Chap came for tea which was nice. Nice to set my table there! They took my old boy his big walk and then we just needed a quick walk before bed.Usual schmusual kind of sleep at caravan. ( a bit like the kind of home. Sleep for a bit and awake for a big bit!)
Friday.Out early this morning and ahead of us were three deer on the driveway. They were at the first chestnut tree on the driveway ( there’s four) one saw us and darted over the wheat field. Dog saw the flash as it ran…but thankfully he still never saw the two that were still there! Me…c’mon! Hurry up and see us before he sees you! ( he was still on lead) anyway they ran into opposite field and ran off. Then we heard the chatter of a pheasant as it flew up at the other side of the hedge and then was nearly back when I stood and watched a heron being chased by crows! So much excitement at 6.30am
Then swimming this morning. Brrr it was blooming chilly! Had popped over to see swimming friend yesterday so we’d agreed to meet at 9am. So it was nice catching up for a couple of hours! And the best bit is always the hot shower but very much so this morning as it was so cold!Friend phoned for a chatter. And nice walk before we headed home at 2pm. Got caught in a wee shower of rain but mainly bright and blustery and then got home and it had obviously been heavy rain here! But has remained bright and blustery and I’m just about to go and bring in a washing. Caravan towels should be dry!Had some RTC steak pie with red cabbage, sprouts, green beans and peas!A nice day off.8 -
just read your reason for working at home PP made me laugh (but good reason!)
1) A day of teaching - students are lovely and very engaged
2) Za'atr paste on very nice bread for lunch yum yum yum - I have a jar someone gave me but never knew what to do with it - I do now
3) back to hotel and some quiet time in my room (again 39 degrees outside, good to cool off and prep for tomorrow)
4) dinner in the hotel followed by a long shower - sooooo good
5) and now the archers, a cuppa and a comfortable bed.

Good morning. Sunny now but you just wait! Every afternoon this week we've had very heavy rain but in 5 minute bursts. Yesterday I ran out in the rain to fetch in the washing and by the time I'd hung it on the clothes horse inside, the sun was out again! It stayed in though. I'm too old for the washing line hokey-cokey
Thunder too. DD and I have been exchanging ' My poor head' texts all week. She seems to have inherited the thunder headache from me.
Had two avocados going very soft yesterday so made guacamole and chocolate mousse. Both delicious. But I think I need a smaller blender. My one avocado, one banana mousse got mostly stuck under the blades! Don't worry. I got it all out but it was a nuisance nevertheless.
Reading a lovely book by Elif Shafak. Beautifully written and mostly set in Cyprus, a place I love, esp the north.
Football season has started again so we're going to watch DGS tomorrow. With the usual proviso - weather permitting. I'm afraid we're fair weather supporters. It's just a school field - no stands or anything, so very exposed to the elements
I've now retrieved all winter clothes from their cupboard and am gradually replacing them with summer clothes. Lots of winter ones in charity bag or the rag bag ( whyever did I put them away in the first place?). Decided I definitely need some new jeans. Mine are looking a bit sorry for themselves.
Local folklore has it that winter comes in with the last horse in the St Leger races. That's today!
Happy Saturday everyone

Ha, that’s a good saying to know HappyCas!
For yesterday,
I’m also feeling a change in the seasons so despite the equinox not being until next weekend I changed over the door wreath, seasonal decs on the mantlepiece and took the summer garden bunting down.
Needed petrol and used the points on my fuel loyalty card to treat us to some Mr Sparks truffles.
Capt S took a break from work and we loaded C dog into the car for a long walk along the back of the studs, it was pleasant in the sunshine and good to stretch our legs.
After lunch the dark clouds started rolling in and by the time I got to the yard the sky was ominously black! Was walking my big girl back to the barn when there was a huge crack of thunder which made us both jump but we just made it before the rain started. Filled up her hay net and gave her a groom while she munched away, cosy in the dry.
Watched and enjoyed England’s innings in the T20.7
