Hello.Awake since very early…some might call it nighttime…was definitely still very dark!Anyway once I was up and at ‘em…sat at the table and started writing a service. Much to write about and I think these are my best kind!Stopped at 10.30am and took myself out for a wee while! And of course it poured and of course I didn’t have a coat on though did have a gilet with a hood…be grateful for small mercies 😆
There was a food fayre down at castle…stood in the trees as it absolutely lashed. Met a friend’s husband so stood and chatted with him whilst we waited for the rain to slow down/stop! Sun came out…for a wee while. It has been heavy showers on and off all day. And so much cooler. Weather app said 12o feels like 6o!Anyway I wasn’t there to mooch ( going back tomorrow with family) but was there for a traybake! Got that and then walked back up the hill. Gave my husband’s tree plaque a wee polish with the cuff of my jumper. Saw a fair few squirrels! These are a lot less timid than the ones at CP.
And home again within the hour. Back to work…with the promise of cake at the end! Had just sent it off when I saw someone turning into my drive….thought who’s that turning in my drive and realised they were parking in my drive! A long lost brother! He had sent a text through the week and then he turned up. Anyway he was here for a couple of hours. Had a cup of tea and declined a cake so I couldn’t eat mine!! Trying to persuade him to not be so head in the sand about wills and POA and letting me know final wishes. Hopefully not for a while but he doesn’t have a partner and it will be me who’s NOK. As a family ( like my wee family) we are all very open about what we want and particularly in the work I do I know how hard it is for a family when they don’t know what’s wanted. So after a see ya! Log burner on and half a krispie cake munched. First fire of the season. SIL asking is it that cold? She’s in a hot country at the moment! Sent her a screenshot of my weather app!Had a call from someone I’d met at work event a few weeks ago. So we are catching up on Monday morning. I’d given her my business card and suggested meeting up at some point…so that’s for Monday.Quick chat to sister to let her know brotherly stuff.Lovely feedback about the service I’d sent off earlier.Leftover steak pie and veg for tea.Did a bit of watching. Filled the dishwasher ( which I rarely use but had a big thing to go in) and I’m up to bed! To continue watching!6 -
For yesterday,
A lie-in for me, gone 8am!
We were both hungry so it was eggy bread for breakfast, dropped a piece of mine on the kitchen floor and the 5 second rule no longer applies when it has dog hair stuck to it so C dog had her first taste too.
Made a loaf and while it was on first prove changed the bed & had a quick wardrobe re-arrange. A few of my summery things including dresses were put away and warmer clothes brought in. Dusted down my boots and fetched a couple of coats to hang on porch pegs. Am obviously hoping that this will bring on a burst of warmer weather.
Spent the afternoon with my other girl, more thunderstorms but we managed to avoid getting wet. Chat with one of the owners that came with me from old yard, think we are settled now.
Tea was loaded nachos, with avocado, black beans, sweetcorn and jalapeño peppers, one of my beloved’s favourites.6 -
Still on tor!
Had fish and chips with mushy peas in hotel. Excellent. Wobbleade was taken.
Had brakefest at Oliver’s. Snorkers and best back. Tea was taken.Went to the woods railway, cake was taken!
Finished with a stake. Moor wobbleades were taken!
Buzby sends aI work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!6 -
Pleasures for yesterday (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Work came and went. Software failure slowed me down for 20 minutes.
3) Had a tidy up and made a shepherds pie.
4) Listened to the commentary on the radio but our team was immediately knocked out of yhr FA cup.
5) Ampersand came round for tea!
6) Phoned my school friend.7 -
See if I can quickly type before battery goes!Rubbish sleep as per usual . Wide awake through night.Anyway up early . Had my shower and was back in bed for a wee while.Chatted to friend on phone.Did a bit of pruning in garden.
Then went out to meet the niecelys and DD2 and The Chap to go round food festival and a walk through the woods.Quick nip into supermarket and got a very nice RTC ‘finest’ curry which I had with my food festival veggie samosa.By this time lashing with rain and chilly so heating is on as I needed washing dried…and well it’s rather chilly.Candle lit in an effort to be cosy!7 -
From your Hartington Hall Youth Hostel correspondent,😀 a sort of en route pause base ahead of more med./sarcoma biz in Manchester. Mancunian weather, natürlich.
1. Would happily have had Frith's delicious shepherd's pie again this evening, as yesterday. It was excellent, really scummy and spot on for this weather,😋......
2. ....ahead of Frith's local Rose Theatre production, which was way better than 'am.dram.well done', of Steven Moffat's 'The Unfriend' - thoroughly enjoyed, with real edge.
3. Hartington Hall is an amazing and glorious meander of ancient buildings. Only 3 tonight in bedroom for 8.

4. Appreciating lying back here with phone plugged in on full charge, which never happens in the Fens.
5. Can't exactly say 'wandered' down what turned out to be a twisty, steep descent to the local church, suitably ancient. By happy chance, it was a great, imaginative baptismal service, with large, local gathering, and marvellous dry stone walking+farming analogies, plus cutouts😃, all of which went really well.

& does like the sheep here at hostel. Cow pics tomorrow. Maaa's and Moo's are part of it all.

For yesterday,
Up early and had a bright but chilly walk with C dog.
Bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge, oh Lily, where has your cricket team gone?!
Spent some time in the garden picking apples ahead of today’s predicted high winds, will take a bag over to the yard to share amongst fellow owners.
The treat of a Sunday lunch out, C dog came too and was very well behaved, sitting quietly next to the table with a few treats as bribery, oh and Mum did sneak her a piece of roast pork. We met another couple who had also rescued a Labrador, this time from Bulgaria and were very taken with our lass.
Home and the weather really come in so cosy afternoon/ evening at home, candles lit and books being read.6 -
Good afternoon. Very windy but no rain yet. Much cooler though
Went to watch DGS football yesterday but they lost. Oh well, it's early days yet. And it was good weather to be in the middle of a field 😂
Then went to DD for coffee and a chat. They go on holiday on Saturday so was good to have a catch up first.
Yoga today. Fished out my long sleeved top. Too cold for a vest today.
And now I've just finished listening to Goodbye Mr Chips on R4. Most enjoyable.
Not much to report really. But on the whole, that's good.
Happy afternoon everyone7 -
A lovely weekend away in the van at a steam fayre.
The drive home was an eye opener crossing the bridge with high winds and alternate lanes shut just in case.
Home and the wash loads started, and I put most summer clothes away, having got rather cold this weekend.
The snoring of the hopefully contented animals.

For yesterday,
A squally, wet day and the horses were kept in.
Did go food shopping but no coffee as my friend is on holiday.
Spent some time with my equine pal, a long groom and a few carrot stretches. As suspected the high winds brought down a lot of apples, I sorted through and put quite a few by for the yard but being windfalls they won’t store well ☹️Chicken couscous for tea then quiz night.6
