    1. Back feeling much better than it has for a while.

    2. Arrived at work early and found all the doors locjed. Had to wait for someone to let me in! It wasn't a long wait.

    3. Good day at work and arrived home in the light and had a coffee wandering round the garden.

    4. DS2 was out and I wasn't very hungry so gave DH a chicken Kiev and I only had the veg.

    5. Shredded some paperwork before DH arrived home so no one around to complain about the noise.

    6. Arranging a few days away in August with DS1 and DS2 and my parents to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.

Likewise on enjoyment of that thread MrsSD :)

    Thursday pleasures,

Buttered toast with lime marmalade for breakfast, always reminds me of Christmas’s long gone as that was the only time we had that preserve at home.

Started a wardrobe sort and have two big bags for CS.

Spent time in Lulu’s paddock, meant to be checking on grass growth but in effect just enjoyed being outside in the sun with my girlie.

Mushroom and Chestnut risotto for tea, oh my.

Listening to the Goon show on r4x which brought back happy memories of my darling dad who did such cracking impressions of same.
  • 5 Friday has come around again. Next Friday at the mill, and in fact next Thursday they can swing the cat, I am in mood to damp down the furnaces. That means Snorkers in the morning!

    4 BoPise has new job.

3 Had to fed neighbores cat this morning, and normally when BoPsie feeds her, our Raffles waltzes down with her. Not with BoP he not. So I whiska’d him straight of and was gone. Cat fed, and she had dab paw, and back. At this time, Raffles noted something was amiss and was fence walking down the yard. Too late cat, I had done it! Cornflakes were then eaten!

2 Night we is watching Engerland! PM2DD I still think the World Cup will be a mess!

Can’s wait for your update, then join BoP’s maling list! Details in the post!
  • 1) Scrubbing the floors (I know how sad that reads!)because we dropped some carpet cleaning fluid on one of them and got paler patches and realised how grey they'd got over the years. It's hard work but they're looking amazing. (the vinolay is textured and we didn't realise how it didn't respond to steam mopping).

    2) Finding new scrubbing brushes (finally) as mine is old and looking on it's last legs. Had to go to B&Q as nowhere else had them, so I got 2.

    3) Front hedges is a mix of blackthorn and hawthorn and the blackthorn has put our the most amazing amount of flowers this year.

    4) More houses have come on the market in our chosen area so hopefully the market will wake up down here soon.

    5) Found two new cookery books yesterday in the second hand book shop at Mottisfont one is a veggie one and the other is casseroles, both will be useful.

Afternoon all - today i come to you from Bristol Temple Meads, platform 3. I have travelled here to go back again - the MIL is at our house and I wouldn't get anything done if I were there. She thinks I am at a meeting :o To be fair, i spent all of yesterday with her and she came home with me last night, knowing she would spend the day alone. i had a genuine meeting this morning and we are trying to show her that our weekdays are busy and she would be alone - she keeps hinting about spending more time at ours but we genuinely think she is better off at her own place. She is at ours till Monday now and will be entertained for the whole weekend from this pm onwards.

    Pleasures for Wednesday

    1. Took the diesel to London, as previously stated. Love that train, got lots of work done
    2. Wore my leather jacket - also as previously stated. Big coat is now to be avoided if possible.
    3. Good meeting with all three supervisors. much helpful comment and questionnaire is (just about, with a couple of tweaks) good to go
    4. OH met me at the station to save my poor leggies the walk home
    5. OH cooked snorkers with cauli cheese - yum

    And yesterday

    1. More yoga
    2. Good drive to MiL's, had a bit of a sing song. Don't drive much so enjoyed this
    3. She did cheese rolls for lunch
    4. Then we went to the Theatre - it was her birthday pressie from us Crazy for You - a Gershwin based musical. it was... OK. The pensioners in the lift (i was the youngest there by about 20 years :p) were a riot - almost literally. Do not mess with pensioners in lifts :rotfl:
    5. the drive home was tedious - but I expected that. DD had taken lasagne out of the freezer for tea so it didn't need a lot of effort. Treated myself to a weekday glass of red with it...
    6. - a bonus one. After 5 years of trying, but three months intensively (since dad died), my brother has finally sorted out the kids savings accounts and their money will be transferred into their accounts today...
    Have a good afternoon all
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I wouldn't dare! Imagination off & running with OAPs in various penitentiaries reforming from within - migod the criminals would Learn So Much...

    OS Pleasures recently
"Describe your love life as a film:" "home alone" "predator" - the lads are learning their timing from their father - I needed two handkerchiefs to mop up that mess.

Flashback to first aid training "is there any chance you might be pregnant?" - the WPC taught us the most innocuous version of the bombshell question. (Mother of sons, I hoard these bizarre nuggets against Fate.)

Sons' expressions as I render "together til death like Mozart & Salieri, two pals in harmony" ...! Who'd have thought hours of Stillgoe & Skellern could add further joy to my life, embarrassing my teenagers?! Not least as they were startled I could identify & name Salieri.

Heard a supermarket staff lass opine women have the power as they can bring life - yep but men have the property, pay & authority to take said child away (did the lass not see Handmaid? Or my *so* have-the-power payslip?!) Had to gurgle as the alternatives included language unbecoming & spitting in a public place.

The expression of stunned charmed relief as I try the door to the disabled loo, find it open & hold it thus for a gentleman in need, repulsed by locked-for-the-night shoppers conveniences. As an approving nod from Fate, the baby changing room unlocked & emptied seconds later...

One small step against littering - binned a disposable cup abandoned near the carpark - an act of virtue that was not just its own reward but got me a stamp towards a McBrew of my own.

Cherry trees tips getting fatter & greener! Warm saki seems just one way of celebrating, with rose oolong &/or jasmine tea being my preferred brew. (I will never make a geisha!)

Chatting with colleagues who did an electrical safety course & discovering we'd overlapped on CPR & electrical burns (although they had the figures for the amperages to really worry about.)

Tree by the footbridge - been black as wet wood can be for months - today I looked again to see highlighter-pen-green plump buds of leaf tipping every point. When in full leaf, the tree structure is invisible!

Cute vernal equinox Google doodle - made slightly harder to see as window cleaners letting some Yellow Stuff in!

Mary Beard & Islamic art - I'm possessed of the urge to don drapery & headscarf & go gawk at the calligraphy in mosques, as the tv doesn't let you gawk til your eyes slip out of focus. (Hampered somewhat by uncertainty as to location of the local mosque.)

Preparing to visit parents & excavating things earmarked for them - dining candles, pencils with rubbers on (the right stationery for musicians can be fraught!), Lidl caviar, Eccles cakes (m'lady mother thinks these are a rare local delicacy Up North & enjoys the bragging rights) etc. Thankful yesterday's scouts included packing an egg for an 8' drop (my patrol's egg got called Harold & survived!) so have recent notes on volume & distribution of newspaper required should see caviar jar arrive whole (tempts Fate!).

Podiatrist weaning me onto new insoles, thoughtfully labelled left & right. Most considerate of the manufacturers! (OK boots then popped a loop so am having to "run in" spare pair but hurrah I have a spare pair which fit quite nicely with thin socks.)

Health, strength, love, courage, a working biro & the right documentation at the right time to all who have need, blessings unto Raffles for ongoing supplies of the Yellow Stuff & may your weekends sail happily and tranquilly by. (It's just a brief trip to visit family - How Hard Can It Be, right?!) Onwards!
  • Hi everyone,

    Friday’s pleasures

    1. Gloriously sunny day with a slight breeze - perfect drying weather :o shame I don’t have a washing line or rotary dryer :o or any washing to do for that matter :rotfl:

    2. Phoning cs to donate table & 4 wooden chairs (way earlier than I had intimated when I visited cs yesterday :A) & hearing the joy in Diane’s voice that I would like them picked up ASAP - we agreed on Monday :)

    3. Taking delivery of our 2 new sofas & storage footstool from D*S. The delivery men were grateful that we had measured our rather awkward entranceway so they got the sofas in fairly easily :T

    4. Per above - the two guys were quick & efficient in unwrapping the sofas & affixing castors etc. But more importantly tidied up & took away all the rubbish so that it looked like they had never been :) As I was so pleased gave them each a fiver - if we ever order anything else from D*S I hope we get the same 2 chaps :T THE SOFAS & FOOTSTOOL ARE STUNNING:grin::dance:

    5. Moved one of the sofas out of the way & cleaned a portion of the carpet again with my new toy - it is strangely satisfying :rotfl:

    6. 2nd portion of last night’s takeaway currently heating up in the oven

Enjoy the rest of your evening everyone :)

Hello. There's a GN in the bath. Much chit chat between her and DD2. DS is in his room and even the dog is at top of stairs. So I have for the first time sat down and have peace and relative quiet.

Bit of an odd start to my day. DD1 had messaged me through night with a concern ( and I've said if she needs me anytime ) then I ended up tracking her food delivery and kind of waited till that came ...nice photo and a thank you. Then managed to doze off before the dog woke me up wanting out! Sigh!

Walked to slimming club in the rain. Lost half a pound. But I've eaten like a horse all week so that was fine. Back on track for next week I hope. But 12.5 off altogether. Walked back in the wind.

Then down to other end of town to get pressure tested at optician. Eye drops in and eyeball touching tools detected perfectly okay pressures. I have a family history of glaucoma and whilst not hereditary is familial. Had a baked potato for lunch whilst out and waiting for eyes to get back to normal. New specs ordered.

Bought 2 tins of fence paint RTC £5 from £20.

My mother had asked us to go round and help with some things. She lives a very cluttered lifestyle which I find very difficult. Bit took some jackets out and have dropped them off at friend who was collecting for ragbag fundraising.

Our minister had visited whilst we were out so emailed him.

Then GN arrived with enough stuff for a week but it's only 2 days! Beautiful evening so we hopped in car and took dog ( bad dog) a walk down woods. River was very high so couldn't let him off lead and he just pulled and cried then another dog ran up to him and kind of took him by surprise and that was a lot of woofing by which time I'd had enough!

Had tea...as Dd2 dropped a glass on floor so it's shattered then GN spilled her juice all over the table ....trying hard not to growl at everyone!

GN has just read me a story instead of the other way round!

I think it will be an early night for me tonight.

Hello all, back after a break. There's only so much time I can spend online, and unfortunately every single penny I earn is from online work, so when I need a break, things like MSE have to go...
    Anyway, here we are again.

    1. Being able to donate a little bit of cash to charity. Sport Relief and a friend's birthday fundraiser, today.

    2. Finally got to eat at the new Italian 50 yards from DD's house. Arthritis was a horror, but the quiet patience of my lunch companion saw us through. TG for patient, non-judgemental friends.

The Italian is in what can best be described as an unexpected location, on the edges of an ex-mining village/town, in a pub that failed, and didn't have the greatest of reputations.
They have had to provide great service and great food or nobody would bother; why go out of your way to somewhere mediocre?

Mediocre they are not. A lovely starter of mixed olives, salad and toasted fresh bread, and a huge pepperoni pizza on Proper Pizza Dough, plus a large red, for under a tenner.

    3. DD got my heating going again by Reading The Manual, and applying instinct. £60 call-out saved.

    4. GORGEOUS new to me 80% Angora jacket from DD, for Mother's Day. plus lots of little treats. It's a late 80s-early 90s one. At the time, I loved these Angora-y garments, but a jacket like this was out of my league.

    5. Your pleasures, plus the pleasure of being spotted on FB by an MS'er. Thanks!

Oops. Friend's grandson now safely at home, after being born 'dry', a month early following an emergency Caesar, it very nearly went the other way. Another friend lost her lovely, funny husband this week, so we desperately needed the pendulum to swing back.
    It did.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
