Hi Ampersand
I think there are quite a few Elly Griffiths/ Ruth Galloway fans here, myself included. And how lucky to read the first in the series first. I almost never do that 😂7 -
Hello. Another early night. Just finished painting so I’ve done enough for today.
A daughter’s birthday…they are now all silly ages!Up early after having the weirdest dream.
Keeping a close eye on current events…feel we are on the precipice of something.Started painting the arms/ legs on velvet chairs so had to tape them up to protect fabric. Did first coat on two then went to supermarket. Was sunny at that point.
Son called for a chatter. Now pouring.
DD2 and The Chap returned from their weekend away and dropped off a pup.Called sister. We then had a late lunch…which I thought was going to be tea… and had painted the third chair by this point!Made her birthday cake which smelled lovely baking ( I used to bake all the time and hardly ever now) and she just texted to say it was amazing! Was glad of peace when they’d gone ( is that mean 😆) and painted final chair. Hurrah! They are all done.Currently lashing with rain.8 -
1-5 Spent the weekend helping the in laws, we went to visit some rise recliners after father-in-law is now unable to stand and is now housebound, after a couple of visits to potentials picked up a great second hand one being moved on. But it was some heavy lifting and moving about. All done now.
1 Woken up with a stinking head cold – bug trying to function through cotton wool the pleasure is it's not worse.
2 Filled up the bird feeders and encountered some big buzzy bumbles in the crocus’
3 The lady was house clearing we picked up the chair from, and she gifted us a carpet offcut that was going to the tip, and the ferrets loved it. One squeaked as it smells different and clambered straight up me 😊
4 Placed a once-a-month butcher pack we are trying out for some new tastes. I already have next months planned.

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep and I dreamed I was looking round a series of National Trust properties!
2) Had a lift to art club from my friend. I used oil pastels today.
3) Made the base of a shepherds pie, roasted veg for soup and roasted some chicken fillets plus made stuffing for sandwiches.
4) Worked from 4-8 and talked at some length to the builder who worked on my old house then the people that lived in the end of the little row where our old house was in the middle!
5) Spoke to someone about another job that has come up at work (as we are being made redundant in my section) then 2 more members of staff popped in to say, "Ooo, you're thinking of applying!" As I left through the tills, another lady again said to apply and good luck! I need a resume (I looked online) but have never had one!
6) Came home and finished the shepherds pie and that is what we had for tea.
7) I'm now cooking lentils for a few minutes before I add the veg from earlier today and then we will have some soup.
8) Smaller son and I have been planning going to a football away match and tying it in with seeing a NT property and having an explore of the Swan in Stratford all on the same day. (We sneak in the Swan occasionally as we like the architecture and no one ever asks why you are wandering around).5 -
I too loved the Ruth Galloways @ampersand and having lived in North Norfolk definitely some memories - I read the last one (the last remains) last week - I haven't finished the Brighton series and I see she's started a new series hooray
1) sunshine - stripped my bed
2) teaching 4th year medics about visual abstracts - for the 2nd hour they had to pick an abstract (I had found some fun ones) and in groups create a visual abstract - I'd brought in different coloured paper, pens, sellotape, scissors - a veritable Blue Peter effort - then they each got 3 stickers and voted for their favourite three
3) visited my friend who's had the stroke again - he has lost quite a bit of vision which of course we hope is not permanent. i am truly blessed to work in a medical school within a teaching hospital
4) ys steak for tea yum
5) bedding all dried and ironed (thanks mum) and now back on the bed and I'm catching up on ET Notts Forrest Ipswich. i have good friends supporting each.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Pleasures for Monday
1. Saving money on petrol with my new to me hybrid car -59.8 mpg.
2. More HR stuff completed at work.
3. Good drive in & out got back at 3.30am
4. Been good today and are lots of fruit.
5. I think someone at work is going to complain about me as they don’t agree with something I said but I have other managers who have witnessed the behaviours so should be all ok.8 -
I too have read and loved the Ruth Galloway series Amps and do actually have all the books ready to rehome, please do let me know if you would like any of these?
For yesterday,
Last morning in Harrogate, said goodbye and thank you so much to our lovely hosts, they fully deserve the 5* review we will leave.
Good drive home and managed to avoid all roadworks, the three hours went quickly due to catching up on things Ambridge and listening to the WatO.
Home and a wander around the garden noting the new buds & flowers, the birds were complaining about the lack of seed in the feeders so filled them up.
Watched the first episode of the new Bergerac, I’m old enough to remember the original ☺️Sleeping in my own bed, always such a pleasure after a few days away.8 -
My 5 OS pleasures for yesterday are:
Making a very tasty Chinese chicken curry with salt and pepper chips and egg fried rice. All made from scratch from items I had in the house.
Reading, something I’ve not really done and have only just started to enjoy. I have read 5 books so far this year. Just started reading Peter Pan and Wendy.
Looking at the stars with my son. We downloaded an app and looked up all the stars we could see. The sky was so clear last night.
Planning my vegetable garden for this year. I need to remember that I only have a small space and I can’t grow everything.
I had such a lovely hug with my bunny Bertie. She is such a loving rabbit, asks for hugs and fuss all the time.9 -
Recent pleasures:
Sunshine ☀️
Weekend away at a lovely wedding near Nottingham:
Beautiful venue, lovely bride and groom, very generous hospitality with all food and drinks 🥂 provided.
Stuff slowly moving out of the house with Vinted sales.
50 lengths swimming today, my best yet!
Nice pub lunch out today, using Tesco vouchers which were about to run out.
Hugs to all in need 😊8 -
Hello!
Just finished tidying up and about to go outside with doggy! Hopefully before the rain starts.Up early. There was the most stunning sunrise this morning.Had to go over to let workman into DD house of doom! He was late but had very nice eyes!Went to pets at home for dog food. Had £6 off in vouchers.
Popped into the Range. I really don’t like BIG shops! Had a very quick look round, saw lots of things I thought ooh that’s nice but was just as quick to say but I don’t need…I did get a candle and a platter thingy for my new table.Went to old work for a fruit scone and had a blether with old boss.Hello doggy. I’m home.Hung out washing which was almost dry when I brought it in later.Pup collected by new doggy walker so I’d to wait in for them coming.Went round to visit a friend. Had a nice catch up and a nice walk back home noticing all things spring like in the gardens.Prepped for Tuesday Tea. Last of the RTC potatoes , parsnips from the frozen mountain of parsnips ( 15p bags) and sausages that were clubcard price. So a nice cheap and very cheerful dinner. Just chopped everything up, a spray of oil and into the oven. We had broccoli, sprouts and peas and it was very tasty!
Made pancakes for pud with strawberries and raspberries and mini eggs. I just had one. I like making pancakes but don’t love eating them as much!Laughter and chatter. Friend brought me lovely flowers.7
