Good morning. Beautiful bright pink sunrise again.
In no particular order
Met DD and SiL for breakfast I was still full from two days ago so just had mushrooms on toast. Lovely to see them and hear all the plans for the New Year.
Had a water cut off with no warning ( burst pipe round the corner) so went with DH coffee/pub friend to garden centre for extended coffee and natter until we thought it would be ok. It was fortunately. And if the world isn't set to rights now, it never will be!
Trying my best with Ink Black Heart but so many people! A friend lent me the book ages ago but it was hardback and so heavy! It was like trying to hold the family bible. I gave up!
We've decided to try to meal plan for a week. Usually we look daily at leftovers/ freezer and decide then but thought we'd try to be organised. I suspect it won't last!
And so today is a trip to the supermarket to collect what bits are needed. Mainly fresh veg.
Happy not-sure-what-day everyone7 -
Agree with IBH HappyCas the book was quite heavy with all the online chat room stuff which they struggled to impart to the screen imo. Have high hopes for the Running Grave though.
For yesterday,
Bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge.
Popped out to fill up the mini and a festive box of choccy biscuits jumped into my hand, for some reason we hadn’t had any this year.
Good job as text from DSIL, could they pop over? Of course and her lovely partner plus DN and her fella came too. Great couple of hours catching up, biscuits enjoyed with a cuppa then pop, a bottle of fizz opened too for non-drivers and salty snacks dug out of cupboard. Love an impromptu get together.
The fog finally cleared and we had a bit of afternoon sun, much appreciated.
We are enjoying the festive Uni Challenges.7 -
Morning everyone.
Not a lot happening here, a few very welcome lazy days. The fog/mist was very dense but has now lifted and we have sunshine - very welcome but I quite enjoyed the surreal other-worldly atmosphere of whiteness.
Recent pleasures:
1) Lovely pottering days between Christmas and New Year, lose track of days and dates but very relaxing.
2) Lots of reading and a lovely pile of new releases from the library still to go at. Hubby picks them up for me and the librarian told him she reads a lot of them after me and has greatly expanded her reading repetoire!
3) Budding holiday/short break ideas are starting to form, nothing madly exciting in the grand scheme of things but things we will look forward to and enjoy.
4) Some more freezing of bargain veg, it'll be a long time before I peel another swede! Full freezers must be the modern day equivalent of granny's larder full of preserves.
5) Nice ride out to lovely local garden centre for a mooch and a cuppa, bought lovely half price Christmas cards for next year. Spurred me on to start my next year Christmas list of things we've got, things we will need and some ideas while it's all still fresh in my mind.
Another day of not a lot happening and then tomorrow will pack for an early start the next day for our family meet-up in Wiltshire for brother's birthday. A very quiet New Year's Eve for us, just as we like it, and then up and off for a few busy days of celebrations - again!
Wishing you and yours a very happy and healthy New Year.

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Played chess online.
3) Walked to town and back. Went in a couple of charity shops but bought nothing. Went in the new Asian supermarket for fennel seeds and garlic.
4) Took the old Christmas tree to the bottom of the garden wasteland and swept up a million needles off the patio. Picked up cat food sachets the foxes have dragged all over. Planted hollyhock seeds from the plants at the front.
5) Had HM soup for lunch plus cheese and biscuits and a mince pie.
6) Tidied up after lunch including cleaning the window where the fairy lights had been.
7) Roast parsnips, red pepper and garlic to make another batch of soup. Just need to liquidise it. Roast butternut squash to make a pie tomorrow.
8) Worked 4-8 and did some online training there.
9) Some YS offers at work including duck pancakes for 29p and flat turkey fillets for 50p (reduced from £6).

Clearly no Scots on the pricing team either. The Scots in me rebelled at the price tag. Do people who are MSE spend much for furniture and lamps? I always start with the free sources first - friends and relatives getting rid of things, furniture left out for the trash man, Buy Nothing; work my way up to charity shops and people getting rid of things online; and then cringe when I have to actually pay for anything at a regular store. Come to think of it, the last time I bought furniture at regular price was when my roommates moved in and we needed beds and mattresses and that was twelve years ago. I'm letting them pay for replacement mattresses.

For yesterday,
The normal Monday morning trip into horsey town for food, a few bargains found at emporium including rtc stollen with an exp date of the end of Jan and a large jar of mincemeat for 87p, will do for flapjack and buns.
Cleared the wash basket ahead of NYD, no good luck will be washed down the drain in this house.
Sat with Capt S and finalised budget for year ahead, aided and abetted by coffee & choccy biscuits. Apart from Direct Debits the biggest category remains animal treatment and medication, mostly for small dog have to say!
At the yard and girlie was in a better mood so the sunshine was obviously helping, sorted out a 50g rug liner to bolster the warmth ahead of the icy blast that’s expected from Thursday.Easy tea of leek & cheddar orzotto, using up some of the cheese mountain currently in the fridge ☺️6 -
DundeeDoll the J word is one of my least favourite words 😆 it gives me the heeby jeebies!!

It’s been a wild day here! The dog and I both thought no thank you at early o’clock! Just heard something dragging across the patio in the wind ( sofa)
Came back to bed after dealing with doggy and dozed on and off then finally got up.
Went to supermarket.Went to old work for some lunch with my girls. Nice chat with old colleagues.
Home and hello doggies…I know it’s past your lunchtime!Made a lasagne. Had with RTC salad and RTC potato salad. ( made with an RTC pepper and RTC mushrooms )
DD1 was out at DD2 so enjoyed the peace !And now got my feet ensconced in ‘foot mask’ thingies so I may have soft feet to enter next year with!2024 didn’t turn out as I’d hoped but hey I’m fortunate in many ways so have a lot to be grateful for.9
