5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Hello again.
Having a lovely festive week. Heading off to bed now but first some recent pleasures:
1) Little fella in the Community Carol Service last night. The school choir joined the congretation in the local church and sang several carols on their own and we all joined in the rest. A really traditional carol concert, just lovely. Middle grandson joined us which was a bonus. We all lit candles and had the chance to write a tag which was then hung on the lovely Christmas tree to remember special people in our lives. Tea and coffee and delicious homemade cakes afterwards. Got the traditional 'something in my eye' when the children sang Away in a Manger, much to middle grandson's amusement!
2) Weigh day at Chub Club and two more pounds off. A couple more this week would be good before the Christmas feasting but we will see. Lunchtime walk with my lad, kept up a good pace as my knees are so much better after last week's fall, just very colourful still, but hopefully burned off some calories.
3) Back to the same church this afternoon for the school's Christmas Concert. Lovely because in previous years they have been limited to two tickets per child so us grandparents haven't been able to go but no restrictions on numbers this year due to a change of venue so middle grandson came again as he finished college at 3pm and the concert started at 4. Little fella had a starring role as the Innkeeper and sang the first solo just beautifully. 'Something in my eye' again and even middle grandson looked very moved by his little brother's performance. A lovely finale when the whole school sang We Wish You a Merry Christmas and signed it in makaton - lots of somethings in eyes for that one. Then back to school for the Christmas Fayre. A long day for the littlies.
4) Christmas Day planning meeting in the big house this evening with son and partner. They have taken over the reins this year and will be hosting 14 of us on the big day. As I have done it for so long they were looking for some guidance and for the use of my big table, chairs, crockery, cutlery, glassware, serving dishes, big pans, etc. Luckily all can be taken out of one set of doors and in through the next and we can work between the two kitchens. Should be fun and lovely for them to finally have a finished kitchen/dining room/family room to host in. The benefit for us is we don't have far to stagger home afterwards!
5) Sorted packing as off to my brother's for a meal and to stay tomorrow night as we are up early the next morning for a visit to a local to them stately home for a guided tour of the house decorated for Christmas followed by a cream tea. We will then pick up eldest grandson from Uni and bring him home for the holidays. Then all my bairns will be where they need to be, all under the sme roof for Christmas.
Then a day of rest on Friday after a busy but lovely week! And now to bed...

Hope that cough clears up soon SSue
For yesterday,
Busy busy first thing with chores done and errands run, nice to be ticking jobs off list.
Quick visit to pony to deliver supplies and administer daily meds, she was out in her paddock but wandered over when she saw a bucket in my hand, wise move as it contained said meds plus a carrot, an apple and a treat.
First of the present delivery trips, out to Fenland market town to see DSIL and both nieces. It’s quite a bleak old drive in midwinter but did see several skeins of geese flying over.
A late lunch with DSIL, invariably our conversation turns to happy memories of my eldest brother who loved this time of year, coming up to 15 years since we lost him and he’s so missed.
The wind got up during the evening and by the time we went to bed it was blowing a hoolie, we were cosy inside.

A few for yesterday.
1 Completed a job application and hunted for a couple more.
2 Popped to aldeee and luckily truffled out some 75 percent off bits snaffled to the freezer.
3 Arranged a Christmas gift exchange visit sounds a bit official doesn’t it.
4 Tonight’s grub is rice and vegetables with a brie Kiev, trying to be “vaguely” good to enjoy the festive excesses.
5 We also popped out to the shops and might have spent more than planned but on things we would get normally.

Indeed it is. Welcome.ShinyStarlight1 said:I’ve only just discovered this thread. What a lovely idea this is!
Thailand still marvellous but I am not suited to 4 different beds in 4 different days in 3 different cities and 2 flights. so pleasure #1 is...
1) Ubon and we are in this hotel for 5 glorious nights
2) I have washed my smalls and they are hanging on the rail
3) the 2 days of talks and workshops in Bangkok (2 different institutions and the traffic is awful hence the 2 hotels so we could be close to early starts) went well - both were at the invitation of alumni - lovely to see them doing so well
4) 3 buffets in 3 nights - all 3 times i have ended by saying i will never have to eat again - then it comes to breakfast and guess what
5) this is a super hotel room - enormous bed, lovely view, window seat, outdoor swimming pool and gym. and tomorrow's workshop is within the hotel
can't remember who asked but stitching the bees onto my pavers frayed at the top was very effective (though hard work stitching according to my long-suffering mum) - i'll try to post a photoMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Did various jobs during the morning. Put washing away, put the next load on the radiators. Tidied up. Cleaned the bathroom and the stairs.
3) Checked the Sainsburys order (for Friday) and added the 15p bags of veg plus a 15p red cabbage. I am looking forward to making soups etc.
4) Had cheese and bean toasties for lunch.
5) Went to pick up the candles I made at the workshop last week.
6) Popped to Sainsburys with smaller son.
7) Went to next door's to borrow their ladder and got to meet their guide dog puppy who arrived yesterday!
8) Smaller son and I mended the garage roof before the rain came. By mending, I mean going halfway up the ladder and throwing the plastic skylight into the right place (it doesn't fit now as flying away and hitting my car has buckled it). It is now absolutely pouring down but just leaking over the edge of the skylight, rather than pouring through a 2 x 1 metre hole in the roof.
9) Cauliflower and pasta cheese for tea with mince pies for later.
10) Have been watching Mary's (Berry) Foolproof Dinners and will catch up on 10 Years of Gogglebox later.8 -
For yesterday,
Must admit to be struggling at the moment, all the ghosts of Christmases past I guess but will keep on keeping on.
Met my friend for a coffee at the nursery in the village, nice to have a catch up.
The horses were having a duvet day due to the high winds, groom and a fuss for my girl then watched pals with their new horse, he’s a smashing chap and has landed on his hooves with his new owners.
Will finish there.

Good morning. Bright and sunny. Hooray!
Lainey - I'm sorry you're struggling. It's a strange time of year that certainly stirs old memories. More so each year, I find x
Highdays - I'm so glad you're gradually getting stronger. Away in a Manger always gets me. Whether it's infants at a nativity or a brass band at the railway station, I'm in bits. Every single time!
D Doll - I'm certainly not envious of all the travelling! But still enjoying hearing about your travels. Thank you.
We're still plodding along here, ticking things off the to-do list. I sorted the freezer so we're having some very random meals eating up all the bitsas and leftovers.
DH delivered our cul de sac cards and I did the ones in the next street so that's now ticked off.
Hearing test yesterday and hearing is worse, as I suspected. Hearing aids adjusted and it is much better now.
Just got a book of Penguin Christmas short stories on kindle. An interesting selection which I'm enjoying. And I don't usually like short stories.
Right! DH out for coffee with a friend so I need to get cracked on!
Happy nearly-there everyone 🎄6 -
sorry to hear you're struggling lainey - Christmas does bring memories, good and not so good.
for today
1) slept very well
2) another breakfast bar to find my way round (and remembered to get a take away cup for a cup of milk - now in my fridge)
3) workshop went really well - my colleague did all the heavy lifting - she is a pleasure to work with
4) 7 alumni at the event including one who graduated 1997! (our course celebrates 40 years next year)
5) conference meal was followed by 'extreme karaoke'. Thais do love their karaoke. i did lots of dancing and got my steps up though did concede to holding a microphone for some of the songs that were in English as the evening wore on - i finished with last Christmas - cheesy i know
