Fab photos PaulieH
For yesterday,
Another bright day so lots of sunshine.
Some sloggus domesticus as the sun highlighted the dust!
I was a bit late to the yard and girlie had watched other horses coming in so was waiting at her gate, Mum forgiven when a carrot was produced from pocket. Legs washed down and rugs changed. This time of year begins to feel like a lesson in endurance as the mud & cold really start to dig in.
Easy tea with the last of the chicken being popped in a stir-fry.
Watched and enjoyed the Bake Off final.

Very belated birthday greetings PK
Welcome back highdays life is full of ups and downs and we have all shared so many of both here
Work has been stressful, we are hitting the BBC for the wrong reasons! however there has been a lot to celebrate since I last posted
1) graduation - celebrating with the students and indeed the faculty who work so hard
2) he library - 'The Venetian Candidate' was in for me - lovely chat with one of the librarians as my jeans steamed (snow then sleet from all directions on Saturday though not floods like some of you and certainly no tractors frith)
3) then lunchtime footie, a toastie and coffee with DrM - he was very pleased I got the front parlour with the fire as indeed was I
4) first class travel with gbf on Monday - train was 52 minutes late so will get 50% refunded - already claimed
5) now at DD2's flat in Canada water. Yesterday we had a great walk from hers to Tower Bridge via lunch at the local city farm. lots of very friendly goats and pigs and some very cute shetland ponies and calves. i remember the very first city farm i went to - Kentish Town - back in the 70s - I now see it was the very first - and although I was an early teenager I fell in love with the concept

Hello, a bit earlier today!
A miserable day, seems I had been feeling grim again because some of my symptoms were flaring up with a vengeance. Back on two lots of antibiotics and blood pressure checks every two hours with instructions to head for A&E if it goes any higher. Also heard from a pal, who is herself struggling with Shingles, that my oldest friend is in a coma in ICU. Never rains but it pours and I'm just feeling a bit low and sad but tomorrow is another day.
Will try for some pleasures:
1) Has to be the NHS and the care they give.
2) Hubby for responding so quickly and taking over the reins when needed.
3) Being allowed to stay at home even if just for now, feel so much better here than in hospital.
4) The experience to know that I will start to feel a bit better soon and surely one day will be better again.
5) Managed to speak briefly to my friend's hubby to make sure he is doing ok and will keep me informed.
There we are, managed to find some pleasures after all.
Hope your day has been better and your pleasures easier to find!6 -
Sorry to hear about your friend, @Highdays. And also that you are still struggling with your health.
Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Tried to get as many tiny jobs on my list done as possible. Each one seemed to have some problem or something that I needed to research! First was putting the bin out which needed me to go on the internet to find out which bin it was this week!
3) Trying to get a prescription online took 30 minutes. Waiting to hear back (what a very silly system). I did change my nominated pharmacy to a different one as the original was slow and spectacularly unhelpful.
4) Sorted my chess friend's Christmas present - just getting it together and wrapping it.
5) More sorting out of my new bank account (£180 for joining NatWest). Smaller son got the app working for me and I logged on to let my work know I need to be paid into a different account.
6) Played chess online.
7) Tidied up and hoovered all the downstairs.
8) Went to Sainsburys and had a cup of tea first in the cafe. Someone recognised me from my interview (2 months ago!!) and asked me if I had got my job. I can't remember people's faces for 10 seconds so I was very impressed.
9) Popped into work and the lady there (I hardly ever have a shift with her) was chatty. The difficult lady is away. The lady today said, "Yes, we must be grateful for small mercies" which made me titter when I got back to my car!
10) Made cheesy mashed potato, carrots, sausages and gravy for tea.
11) Just helped smaller son put the little sticky hooks up in his room ready for some Christmas lights.
12) Looking forward to watching I'm a Celebrity.7 -
Hello. Hot water bottle and achy hips!Up early.
Did some chores first thing. Polished bedrooms. Windowsills and furniture. A teeny tiny bit of ironing. Printed work stuff in preparation for busy-ness.
Out to work…when I eventually found the right house number…because they didn’t have a number! Very lovely people.
And home …hello doggy let’s do lunch..I was an hour late for his!Sat and watched the birds in the garden and read for half an hour then back to work. Write. Write. Write. Send off…wait.
A chap very kindly ( for petrol money) dropped off a piece of furniture for me. It fits just perfectly where I wanted it to go. ( my tape measure is at caravan)
Mince and tatties for tea with peas and carrots and RTC corn on the cob. DD2 fed again! Bye pup …see ya in the morning!
Read a couple of chapters.
Hoovered and washed floors. And just sat and waited for washing machine to finish so I could hang it up as heating will click on overnight.Beautiful night sky.7 -
For yesterday,
Small dog slept through the night for the 3rd one in a row, her humans are very grateful for this.
Chores in the morning, done and ticked off list. Was expecting a delivery and the driver sat outside the house for a couple of minutes then drove off without leaving my parcel! Checked their website and according to that he was running late but I didn’t see him again all day so goodness knows.
Made a batch of cheese scones to go with soup as my DB was coming for lunch. He’s on a sabbatical from work at the moment and is enjoying being a man of leisure. Lovely time spent together with lots of ‘ do you remember whens….’
The skies cleared and it was dry afternoon with a stunning sunset.
Defrosted a batch of beef stew and we had that over baked spuds for tea. Fell asleep during Shetland so will need to watch it again 🙈7 -
Blimey, hello all. Can't remember when i was last here 😮
I absolutely can't read back, but i hope you're all going on well.
Pleasures recently
1. Renovations have begun in ICT house - or at least the destruction part. The joiner / handyman is my new favourite person as nothing seems to be too much trouble
2. weightloss continues steadily - not too fussed about losing much more, just don't want to put any on.
3. some good drives to and from ICT - particularly since i got a new phone and spotify so i've been listening to an audio book
4. Hedgelaying at the weekend - despite Storm Bert. A meal out with all the hedgelayers on Saturday
5. worky work is enough to keep me interested but not overwhelming. Until the marking comes in next week!
Have a good day all - i will try to do better.I wanna be in the room where it happens6 -
hello again vjsmum just dive back in.
sending hugs for you and your friend @Highdays.
For yesterday, still in London
1) Thames walk to Greenwich where I bought a meter of embroidered bees with which I hope to cover the holes in the top of my skechers. DD2 has suggested sewing some on my denim jacket too - if the shoes work that's £5 well spent
2) a cuppa at a book shop was most welcome and the bus back for a quick lunch in the flat
3) off to the map house - great exhibition on london tube maps through the ages (free though did splash out on 2 postcards)
4) the christmas lights at harrods - spectacular
5) Operation Mincemeat - DD2 had managed to 'win' two tickets in the theatre's auction of tickets left - a very thoughtful Christmas present for me and gbf - then gbf and I walked over Waterloo bridge to Waterloo station to get the tube back. I stopped at the exact point xoh had proposed to me all those years ago - still love 'Waterloo sunset'MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
