Hello.
Just waiting for tea to be ready so a quick pop in.
Recent pleasures:
1) Lovely and sunny in the last day or so but the fierce heat has died down so much more pleasant.
2) Exploring our local area a bit more. Our first two years here were taken up with lockdown, then up and down the motorway tending to the oldies and then sorting their estate, so we still feel like newbies eventhough we've been here now for four years! Took the tram into the city and visited a couple of really interesting museums. They are no longer the fusty places we remember from our childhood, these were amazing and the tram ride was fun too.
3) Son and I resumed our daily walk and talk, more walk and huff and puff today as it's been a while and we are both very out of condition again. Those hills are unforgiving, I can barely walk now! Good to catch up and looking forward to being a bit fitter.
4) Some really good new releases from the library so a lot of reading is being done.
5) Tea smells good - chilli chicken wraps and king prawn skewers with salads. Yum, and will have berries and Greek yogurt for pud. Nice, easy summer meals.
Right, just the finishing off to do and we wil have tea watching the first Only Connect of the season. Did quite well on this week's UC questions so let's see how we do. The calm before the storm today as the A Level results are out tomorrow and older grandson's fate will be decided. Fingers crossed for him and all the others in the same boat.
Catch you later, have a lovely evening.6 -
For yesterday,
A cooler night so we all slept a bit better, small dog didn’t need her first wee until 4.30 so a good few decent hours for us all.
It was my turn for a haircut so off to Uni City via the next village on to visit the bakery there. Chat with hairdresser and a coffee whilst reading my book. The mini smelt lovely when I got back in thanks to the fresh bread.
Quick change at home then off to see the beautiful grey one, warm again in the sunshine so just a walk around the farm. The crows were chasing a red kite that was lazily circling above us.
Long chat with my bf.
Made a mackerel pie for tea then caught up with Only Connect, obviously need to get back into the mindset as very few questions answered, Capt S was on his A game and beat me by a long chalk.

Pleasures for yesterday (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Pottered around during the morning.
3) Free badminton and table tennis at the leisure centre at 2.
4) Took 2 chaps canoeing with my friend in the evening. We didn't canoe, we were the chauffeurs. It was nice to have sandwiches on the banks of the Severn.
5) Went out with smaller son at 11 to look for meteorites. Pulled into the (quite a way off the road) car park on a local common for smaller son to say, "I don't think these people are here for the meteorites..." Beat a hasty retreat (I hope that isn't a euphemism!) to find somewhere else to park!!7 -
For yesterday
1 Popped out briefly to pick up a couple of very specific things and came back disappointed with a shut wallet barring £1.50 on plants.
2 Turned up the playlist and got on with cleaning up.
3 Took things in the kitchen apart cleaned and left in cleaning solution, long enough so we ordered in, to make sure everything’s shiny you understand.
4 Had some money refunded from a very useless pet shop, glad at least the refund went okay.
For today
1 Researched some bits I need to do for the in laws tomorrow.
2 Perfect clothes drying weather.
3 With Fuse in mind, I’ve kept an eye on finances as payments have happened, I’ve been reducing subscriptions, and I’ve cancelled a couple of things. Always useful to do no matter what.
4 A grilled burger in a bun, with salad and gherkin for dinner, with mozzarella sticks and onion rings, it was actually really tasty.
5 I mowed the lawn, weeded and created a big bag of garden waste, we might need a tip run now. And did a spot of front window cleaning, anyone would think I am thinking about the presentation of the house.

Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went to Waitrose for the free paper and to do the online crossword.
3) Went to get my haircut afterwards but the queue was out of the door so didn't bother. Had a cup of tea and a fishfinger sandwich in my new favourite cafe there.
4) Played chess online.
5) Had a burst of activity - sorted the bins, brought the washing in, tidied the garden and made smaller son a sausage and bacon sandwich. Cooked more sausages than I needed so we can have toad in the hole tomorrow night.
6) Decided to make a nice tea so took smaller to Sainsburys to buy the bits.
7) Made a very tasty chicken curry with naan breads.
8) Watched Race Across the World.
9) Need to get up now and clean the bathroom as it is on my jobs list.7 -
Hello. Just watching the sunset starting.Up early.
Phone call first thing from solicitor ( very abrupt one😆says it like it is!) and had a sob afterwards. I’m just so over it!Then I had to dry my tears and go into town and pick up DD2 from her work for an appointment. Dropped her off and picked up dog then back to get her and then drop her off and off doggy and I went a-caravanning! The drive was horrendous with the most heavy rain I think I’ve ever driven in.It was like 2 rivers at either side of the main driveway to caravan park. Waaah! Then dog and I had to make a run for it!Anyway I started painting the upper kitchen cupboards. Did 2 coats ended up with just as much on me as on the units! Will need a third coat! That’s a tomorrow job!The niecelys came for an hour or so. Niece brought plug in wax warmer doodahs . It’s still a bit sniffy having been shut up for so long so trying to get rid of smell!Had the fire removed as I didn’t like it as very old fashioned 3 bar thingy. So I now have a hole in the fire surround! Will take a bit of cardboard down to cover it meantime.
Then a nice doggy walk before we left. Rain had stopped and sun had came out though ground still absolutely soaked!
And home eventually in the most ridiculous traffic ever. One of the main roads in to town is closed for a few days so think that’s why but oooft!Had a Chinese takeaway for my tea and nice chat with the owner whilst I waited.Friend called and then DD2 called.Hoovered and tidied up. Hoover at front door to go with me tomorrow. Will need to get a stick hoover to have down there .8 -
For yesterday,
A much cooler, breezy kind of a day, very welcome after the heat of recent days.
At the stables and we did some more aerobic work on our summer bellies, her on the lunge and me running beside trying to keep up with her energetic trot, I was out of puff before she was!
Off to cathedral city in the afternoon to meet up with friend, she recently had a heart attack despite being a fit & active 60 something, not overweight and not a smoker, scary stuff! Anyways, all well now and we enjoyed a good catch up. I had an iced coffee and a slice of blackberry cake which was yum.
I was going to water but then it started raining which saved me a job.
Think small dog’s new pain medication is making a real difference as she seems full of energy at the moment, she was bringing me her toys to play with ❤️7 -
Up early then dozed off again and DD2 normally calls on her way to work but didn’t so I slept even longer!
Anyway waited till washing machine finished then hung it out and off we went!A-caravanning…well when we eventually got there! Holy moly at traffic there ( and back)
Nice doggy walk.
More painting.
Friends came with scones. Blethered for blooming ages. But I had to head back as pup had been dropped off here. Blooming traffic! Grrr.
Ran into supermarket to get something for my tea and met old work colleague so she showed me new baby photos which was lovely.
And home…but chat to neighbour across the road first …when do you go? Pffft no idea.
Tea and then a quick walk with DD2 and pup.7 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Went to the coffee morning at the local theatre. We played Nine Man's Morris today, which I had never played before. I have been practising a bit online this afternoon!
3) Came back home and cooked the remaining chicken thighs (not used in the curry yesterday) plus some stuffing and gravy for some nice sandwiches for lunch.
4) Went into town but couldn't park at all! Went on to canal town and got 2 new t shirts for smaller son from one charity shops then a new top for me from the next one.
5) Went to M and S for a pot of tea and the lady that all my friends know was working so chatted to her. Damn it, I have just remembered that the till wasn't working so she said to pay on my way out! I will have to do that tomorrow.
6) House reasonably tidy and I have just put the washing out.
7) Will have the rest of the curry later.6 -
goodness absent again - last posted 8th. So sorry to read about the passing of Truffle PK. The boy wonder had perked up and been on a walk with the dog walker. After that it was down-hill again so much so I didn't even go to the pub with DrM on Friday (things must be bad!) and every day I wonder if it's going to be his last. he still wags his tail lots and is always pleased to see me and doesn't seem to be in pain but keeping an eye. Very much enjoying my new job but goodness there's a lot to do! So 5 for the last week
1) Saturday early haircut then coffee with DrM and MrH - I found an old graveyard to explore en route
2) the football is back. OK Monday was painful (Watched Luton with DrM and 2 other friends) but apart from that...
3) choir restarted on Thursday - some new choral scholars which is lovely
4) friend has bought a static caravan in Monifieth mhags - I think getting one close by is very sensible - his has 2 bedrooms and looking forward to visiting and the number 73 stops very close to the park smiley:
5) Catching up with Mark Steel in townMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
25 for 25: 127 / 625
declutter: 173 / 2025
frogs eaten: 67
