5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

For yesterday,
Early into horsey town for a few bits of fresh food, already chucking it down and so cold, the racehorse strings looked very wet & bedraggled as they headed up to the gallops.
Due to the above our horses were having a duvet day so headed off to the yard, she was happily tucking into her hay and not at all bothered about staying in. Chat with friend and few jobs done.
Pea and spinach soup for lunch, much needed after being out in the cold.
The pleasure of an unexpected afternoon at home, heating on and snuggled down on sofa to read my book. Capt S finished early and joined me.
Tea was a chicken & chorizo traybake, glass of beer as well. Bit of quizzing then Silent Witness.7 -
Morning all.
Hoping this is a stayer, don't know if I've suddenly started hitting wrong buttons or what!
Recent pleasures:
1) A very hairy journey in the snow was not a pleasure - stranded cars, lorries with spinning wheels, dreadul road conditions and gridlocked traffic - but the pleasure was in hubby's skilful driving and getting us there safely albeit two hours late. Not a day to be on the roads yesterday but needs must.
2) Our doctor deciding to do a further random test on said hubby for his ongoing nuisance cough which proved positive. So all this time he hasn't had a chest condition but a stomach one causing inflammation in his throat and thus the niggly cough. Now on three lots of tablets and will then be retested. Not a pleasure in itself but being better will be. Lucky our surgery is so helpful and thorough, no complaints from us!
3) Like DfV's clever son, our grandson too is receiving lovely Uni offers, such a relief all round.
4) A new to me and highly recommended hairdresser cut my hair. Not normally pleasure but my goodness she knows her stuff and I am completely restyled but this one makes such a lot of sense for the problems I normally have with my silly fine and straight hair. The true test was that I washed and dried it myself today and it still looks good. Expensive but I'm nor running a car anymore so can sort of justify it I tell myself.
5) Our new car has arrived in the showroom, off to have a look at lunchtime. Don't like change but everone else seems excited on our behalf. It'll be pleasure when we are used to it and it's part of normal life.
Right, fingers crossed I don't lose this at the last moment!
Have a good day all.7 -
Ooohh, didn't lose my post - hooray - so here I am again.
Forgot to say, Topsy, so glad for the update about your boy, what a long painful journey he has had but everything crossed that some heartening progress can be made in April. I do think about both of you often and wonder how your bairn is getting on x7 -
Hello. From the land of wind and rain but not freezing overnight temperatures so I’ve switched the heating off! Save a bit of money.Anyway usual schmusual up early.
Woke up to a text from one of my Melbourne friends sisters letting me know that friend had passed away peacefully yesterday. I was expecting it but still sad. Lots of nice memories of times spent together.
Went down to nieces new home today with a car full of furniture. Boxes of stuff everywhere but they’ll get themselves sorted soon!Popped into charity shops and found a lovely shade of pink jumper…that would have been perfect a few weeks ago when I was looking for a pink top! Anyway it’s nice and I like it.Stopped at beach. Full of dog mum guilt! However no room for him in the car as the back seats were down and full of drawers! So I had a quick stomp up the beach and back to car. Inhaled lots of fresh sea air as great nephew was full of lurgy and I don’t want germs! So I was breathing deeply.Home and hello my dog boy! Lots of cuddles.
Then it was hello puppy time.Quiet afternoon. Until niece and her mother in law popped in on their way to pick up the big chest of drawers that wouldn’t fit in my car. So niece is well chuffed with her lovely new furniture all for free.Had a RTC curry meal for one thingy for my tea which was nice.DD2 collected her dog boy.And my dog boy and I are going to watch some trashy Below Deck…just discovered this 😆
It is wild and windy out there. So I’m glad I’m inside !7 -
Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep. Itchy tonight but (dare I have hope after 3 months?) not too bad today...
2) We went to the weekly coffee morning at our local theatre and had some games of chess.
3) Mosque run (not for me) then met up in M and S cafe.
4) Met our friend downstairs in M and S and had a chat.
5) Made roast beef for tea, which should have been nice, but somehow each individual dinner component wasn't quite right. I miss the basic but reliable oven in my old house sometimes.
6) Took smaller son to Tesco.
7) We might go for a walk just now.6 -
For yesterday,
Not a great sleep and woke up with a headache so a quiet’ish morning, did get out to fill up the mini and somehow a tub of Marks choc rolls also come home with me 🤔
Did a few surveys and some exercises, arm day so weights as well.
Over to see my pony, there was a break in the rain so quickly got her out in the lunge pen for a leg stretch. Laughs and chats with pals.
Popped a couple of jacket pots in the oven and defrosted some chilli from the freezer to go with.
Postie earlier had brought me a new to me book, Breaking the Age Code, as I fast approach my 60th am re-evaluating what the next 20 years should look like!6 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Off to ParkRun which MrU ran (rather than walked) for the first time in several months.
3) Went to our friends afterwards for tea and biscuits and a chat for an hour or so. They gave MrU a bike slightly better than his existing bike so hopefully I can have his older one.
4) Dropped some fortune cookies off at bigger son's house. He was out so we put them in the barbeque to keep dry!
5) Popped to Sainsburys and bigger son and his girlfriend were in there, so we all had a chat.
6) My brother was playing tennis in a competition in our town so we went to find his car as my newly mended spade and some strawberry plants were in the boot. I got quite annoyed that he had locked his car so spent 30 seconds trying all the doors and the boot - before realising there were 2 identical cars side by side! We said hello to him between sets.
7) Back home and I planted all the strawberry plants - about 25.
8) Smaller son and I walked to Sainsburys which must be 1.5 miles each way so that stretched his legs out.
9) Just had a few games of chess with MrU.6 -
For yesterday,
Lay in bed and finished my latest book, The Scapegoat by Daphne de Maurier, not one of her more famous ones but very good.
Made a tea loaf, the fruit had been soaking overnight so just needed the flour and egg adding. Had to leave Capt S in charge of it coming out of the oven but was told all would be well as he’d watched a lot of Bake-off 🙈Met three friends for lunch, we don’t see each other often but always have a good catch up, got to the pub at 12.30 and were gently ushered out of the door at gone 4.30! Lovely to see them and after over 30 years of friendship there is always lots of do you remembers.
Was handed a Penhaligon bag ahead of my birthday, smells wonderful but am being restrained and not opening it.
Cooked snorkers for beloved’s tea but was too full for anything more than glass of wine, caught up on Grantchester and Julia.6 -
Morning! Yesterday was a quiet day! Stayed in the warmth of my bed all morning which was very lazy but just caught up on telly stuff.Pup was dropped off as his parents were going into the city for the evening…pup dropped off at 3pm.And then from my bed I went as far as the sofa in the extension…then later the sofa in the lounge! Was really a couch potato!Made chicken Kyiv and mashed potatoes with green beans, peas and corn on the cob for my tea and very much enjoyed it.
Late night as the pup was collected at late o’clock. I was kind of dozing but not properly asleep.Just heading out to a posh hotel to meet my SILs8 -
Hello all. Not sure where the time has gone and have no time to catch up. Resolutions to 'do better'.
REcent pleasures
1. slimming world is begun. It's not too bad and i'm already 3lb down. Only another 12 to go then. And then to keep it off.
2. worky stuff was ok
3. theatre with my girl - Fantastically Great Women who Changed the World. Great stuff.
4. A tour of Westminster Abbey with OH. Been on my list of 'things to do' for some time. OH didn't want to pay (to which the answer was "don't come then!"), but then found a 2for1 deal. The tour was fab (even he agreed) and we had lunch in the fabulous cellar restaurant there - very reasonably priced, too.
5. met up with a friend for coffee and a short stroll - flooding prevented anything too extensive.
6. Cinema with another friend - the COlor Purple. Very well done.
7. Discovering new recipes with slimming world.
Laters all.I wanna be in the room where it happens8
