5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

For yesterday,
A misty start with dragons breath lying at the bottom of the field.
Pottering kind of morning, washing, making a loaf and finally getting the answer to the mystery voice on Dermot’s morning show!
With my girlie, warm in the sunshine and she got hot being lunged so a cooling walk down the lane. Two old planes flew close overhead, ww2 fighters by the look of them.
Listened to the second half of the footie driving home and we managed 3 points at home.
After all the rich food of day before we fancied something plain for tea so jacket spuds with cheese fit the bill nicely, watched the rugby ☹️ and then one of those documentaries about old comedy programmes, lots of clips of Morecambe & Wise, Two Ronnies etc which sent us to bed smiling.6 -
Good morning everyone on a lovely sunny morning.
Happycas - belated Happy Birthday, sounds as if you had the very best day and lovely to hear that hubby is on good form.
Ampersand - yes, the cake is definitely worth trying, a very 'this time of year' sort of cake. I'm rubbish at tech so can't do a link but if you Google something with Benjamina Ebuehi, sweet potato and ginger cake, The Guardian in it you should find it. If not I'll type out the recipe. Next time I will put a bit more stem ginger in but we like things spicy and love stem ginger!
Some pleasures:
1) Feel so much better this morning, my arms are just slightly sore but the shivery, headachey symptoms have gone. Big pleasure as I hate not feeling right.
2) In a 'let's get sorted and get things done' mood. A pleasure for me, hubby doesn't look too sure. The whirlwind of activity probably won't last that long but am cracking on with stuff while it lasts.
3) We have found a second hand very good condition freezer for the workshop. We can't get a big chest freeer in there, which would be preferable, but two under-counter freezers is the compromise. Two of us shouldn't really need three freezers but this one will be for Christmas, then barbeques and ice-cream - that was what the second one was for originally but that didn't quite work out. In my defence, you can't get that much in a small freezer and if I am to do all the family entertaining, which I enjoy and am glad people want to come, then I need to be able to get ahead and my freezers are jam-packed already. I'm using stuff up as best I can but getting a compact block of mince out and making three shepherd's pies and a chilli to go back in means I'm not getting very far!
4) More social plans made, we are busy bees these days but at the stage in life where we need to enjoy ourselves and have fiun while we are able. Had news yesterday of someone who only got three weeks of retirement, just so thankful we were in a position for hubby to be able to retire six years early and that we have had that time together and hopefully more to come. We appreciate every day now.
5) Will spend this afternoon enjoying my summerhouse, won't get many more chances to be out there before it is too cold. Best present ever, almost worth having a big birthday with a 0 on the end for! I've spent many happy hours out there this year, just pottering and having fun - and the odd little siesta.
Right, off to pick up the freezer and then to fill it!
Enjoy your day whatever you are up to.

1. Dubious scoreline at Stade de France last night. Xillionty comments agree, along lines of 'Better Team lost' and infinity on 'Mr Barnes/TMO/ red card yellow card ridiculous inconsistencies.'
It is what it is. & prefers ABs as true members of the rugby family.
Hearing this on R5 merely exemplifies above. All the R5 bokke commentators were proudly boasting 'We knew how to game every single one of those plays, how to reverse every one of Barnes' decisions'....pause....'We are the best cheats' roars of laughter, before main R5 man called them to order. That's the difference...🤬😡
2. Glad to be in through a strange night, with much msg'g to/from old schoolfriends and young 🦚🇳🇿🏉 friend in Paris at match - "Thanks &, bit of a tough day to be a kiwi. Couldn’t be more proud to play with 14 for the time we did" - while hearing several hefty downpours, as right now.
3. Perfect weather for aging+leftover veg. soup - carrots, onions, broccoli, garlic, celery, possibly more.😋
4. Not long finished Peter May's 'Night Gate', but can't leave it behind, nor will it leave &. A haunter. Going back to Acknowledgments page again and again.....
5. First thing, took yet another strawberries flower and fruit pic. That lhs green strawb.is over 2cms wide already! - usual & camera👎-ery,😁.

Happycas, A belated Happy Birthday.
1 A very lazy Sunday and I refuse to feel guilty about it as the whole to do list will still be there tomorrow.
2 I did cook up a chicken roast with potatoes, yorkie pud, veg and gravy, profiteroles for dessert all very luxurious.
3 Ohh I had a little look at some clothes online, and I think purple velvet may be my downfall, I’ve been waiting years for this to come into fashion 😊
4 I am enjoying the various themed time of year movies on streaming.

A very early good morning from me and my doggy! We both seem to have forgotten to let our body clocks know the actual clocks went back yesterday and up at usual time of 5ish which is now 4ish.
Anyway for Sunday we were also up early and we headed down to the beach, though it was still quite dark. I think I just thought it was going to miraculously get light! But we had a lovely walk, just us.
Home and kind of just pottered around.DD2 came over in the afternoon with pup. We sat and chattered then she went out for an appointment and I made dinner. Which was nice. Just a mince pie with veggies. She bought pud…white chocolate caramel slice then off they went into the dark! She also brought me lovely flowers. It’s the anniversary of my dads death today and I feel a bit overwhelmed as I think I always do with it. And I think as I edge nearer to the age he was when he died it kind of hits how much of life he missed out on. With not meeting grandchildren. Retirement with mum etc. Anyway we can’t change any of it but I miss him every day but especially more so now. Thirty one years without a dad is a long time.Do have a lovely day though. Bit grotty here at the moment but it’s literally the middle of the night 😆8 -
Good morning. Bit grey but no actual rain yet
P Kitten - hope you're still enjoying your cake. Ours was disappearing fast but now we've got birthday goodies to go at too! Might freeze some!
M hagster - I agree. I'm usually up silly early but for the next two weeks it'll be even sillier!
Paulie - oh heck. That sounds bad. Do try to rest and be kind to yourself.
Frith - are you ok? I hope your illness has not got any worse. There seem to be quite a few poorly people at the moment
Highdays - I'm in awe of your Christmas prep. It all sounds wonderful. And thanks for the Christmas Chronicles reminder.
A much quieter day yesterday but still enjoyable.
DD popped in with a thank you gift from her friend. More biscuits!. A lovely box so I've hidden them for Christmas. ( my version of Christmas prep, Highdays😂)
DGD came round to do English homework. A Christmas Carol. She's doing brilliantly on her own but still not as confident as she should be, so that's my target!
And then chilled, and chopped down the Japanese anemones, and crocheted a mini Christmas stocking for bunting and watched Morse ( signed version because recorded mid morning I think).
All in all a good day with many pleasures
Happy Monday everyone6 -
Belated Birthday wishes HappyCas, sounds like you’ve had a lovely weekend.
For yesterday,
Oh yes Mhags, small dog’s bladder didn’t get the memo either about the clocks changing so up early for a garden visit, we did all go back to bed though as very cold and heating wasn’t due on yet.
Downstairs for a cup of tea and the full moon was peeping through the branches of the apple tree.
Busy morning with gardening, washing mud off car and general pottering. All with an ear on TMS but as the man says it’s the hope that kills you, oh dear.
Roast pork with all the trimmings for lunch followed by much lounging about.
Stirred our stumps to get a walk in before the sun went down, trying hard to embrace the darker months and thank you for the reminder to dig out my copy of the Christmas Chronicles.

Hello. It’s very chilly outside. Such a cold wind but a beautiful star filled sky and a big moon. My dad loved the night sky so is most apt for today.
Up at silly o’clock which was really normal early time but an hour early!Did a bit of tidying in the garage. It’s a work in progress but there is less than there was. Put a couple of things on local FB page which were collected this afternoon.
Went into town. Parked at big supermarket and walked downhill …which meant I’d to walk back uphill with a stuffed tummy! Had a couple of things to do and then met DD2 for lunch. It’s all a bit rushed as she’s on her break from work but I go in 15 minutes early and order so it’s ready when she gets here. It’s worked in our favour so far.Home. Brought in washing. It was such a good blowy day for washing.
Read. Didn’t need dinner.Friend called. We were arranging our next catch up. All sorted. I need to remember to book tomorrow.Dog thought he was never getting fed…belly telling him it was teatime, kitchen clock telling me otherwise. We compromised!Read.7 -
Hoping Frith is ok.
For yesterday,
A bright, sunny day so Monday washing done and mostly dried outside.
Car was dropped off at village garage for MOT & service, big one so bit of an ouchy bill but all done now.
Fun in the sun with the beautiful grey one, given her behaviour she obviously thinks spring has sprung! That said, unlike others on the yard, she’s a poppet to handle on the ground so a firm favourite with the staff.
Very hungry when I got home at 4 so had a big mug of veg soup.
Samhain eve and wispy clouds floating across the moon.

Morning all
Still not feeling well and still coughing ☹️ by coincidence I had a long awaited (8 months) respiratory referral appointment at the hospital yesterday. After a thorough history taking, the specialist thinks I have a lung condition probably resulting from three bouts of pneumonia as a child, not great news when I looked it up. Referring me for a CT scan, lung function tests and bone density scan ( because of steroid use in the past).
To cheer myself up and because I was hungry, I bought a KFC on the way home. Not had one for ages and now so expensive and not particularly enjoyable! Won’t bother again.
Actual pleasures: a glimpse of the beautiful moon
Having lemon chicken and potatoes left over from Sunday so I didn’t have to cook from scratch last night.
Reading on here 😊
Wishng everyone a happy and healthy Tuesday 😊6
