5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Hi everyone.
A lovely September day yesterday, warm with soft light but what a difference a day makes, cold and grey today.
Some pleasures:
1) A miserable night, neither of us could stop coughing and I was a bit scared as I couldn't catch a breath and felt like I was suffocating in the middle of the night. Stood by an open window for a while to cool down and calm down and finally managed a couple of hours sleep pretty much sat up. The pleasure is we both feel slightly better today and are, so far, coughing a bit less. Hope that continues as it seems to get worse as the day wears on, still weak as kittens though. And that's enough moaning!
2) Enjoying the darker evenings, a good excuse to sit down and relax. Won't light candles, put winter throws out, etc. until the clocks change - winter lasts long enough without it starting early.
3) Quick and easy food if and when we feel like picking at anything. The fridge and fruit bowls are full, we won't starve!
4) Spent some time making plans - winter indoor hobbies that I can do by electric light, menu ideas for our family Christmas get-together - I'm hosting but now we have downsized all family members are staying in a local hotel so no last-minute sorting beds, sheets, towels, etc. Neither will I do breakfast for 12/14 the following morning, did that for years but it's a slog to clear up and start again eight hours later, we will book at the lovely local garden centre's new restaurant for brunch, expensive but all can pay for their own so a lot cheaper for me than buying all the provisions!
5) Just about to spend some time with my book, enjoying it. Set in Northumbria so happy memories of places we went on our recent holiday and it's number 1 of a series of 20 so plenty to keep me going for a while.
Hope you've all had a good day, another one to look forward to tomorrow.

Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep. My cold continues...
2) Went to Park Run. Nice cake and 2 games of table tennis.
3) Did some Arabic.
4) Went to an open day at our local theatre and looked behind the scenes.
5) I am in charge of the cat with no home (neighbour on both sides are away) and he appeared this morning and ate his meat and biscuits.
6) Went to our football team match but they lost 1-0 - to a goal that was hugely offside!
7) About to watch Casualty.8 -
Live from Peacock HQ, as a private function 40th birthday disco's along upstairs in the VP Lounge. Staying on to give a hand.
1. 3 wins out of 3 for our fellas today.🌟🦚🏉👍. Lift to Oundle, where our 1st XV played brilliantly, 29-7, not the tough loss thought likely. Our Nomads home match, another great win, v Diss 31-16 and the 3s beat Thurston away, 57-26......all of which you were all desperate to know, je sais bien.😁. Women's League season begins tmrw - 2 home matches. 2 more wins for 5/5? 🤞🤞
2. £10 note found on wild grass at Oundle. No-one anywhere near, but asked all up and down the touchline. No takers. Plenty of good causes with Harvest Festival tomorrow.
3. A busy, busy happy day.
4. Lift to Oundle was in a brand new electric Range Rover. Interesting. Jokey part was &'s door refusing to let her out. Took over 5 mins for owner to work through all the clever clogs biz.
5. New young kiwi Peacock arrived last Thursday, trained jetlagged. He's a bit special - short, slightish, but brilliant and thoroughly likeable. 1st appearance for the 1st XV today and scored a try! Loverley! Not only that, his techie Degree means & and A will get the weekly preview out together. He's a cracker.👍🦚🏉

Good morning! Daylight is just starting to think about keeking through. Still dark but just a glimmer of light in the distance.Friday before I forget 😆
Up early.
The chap phoned to see if I wanted to go a puppy walk with him. So yes I did so I had to quickly gather everything I needed and set out to meet him down the woods.Lovely walk. Then into town as I had my flu jab to get. But first dropped off the hastily gathered bag of stuff for the charity shop. 10 books and 10 CDs and a few bits and pieces .Just the flu jab and not covid as I didn’t fall into particular categories.Went to big supermarket seeing as i had parked there! And home! Hello doggy! And hello puppy! As he comes on a Friday afternoon. And oh how it rained and was suddenly a lot cooler and I ended up putting the heating on for a couple of hours. I just felt so cold and it was one of the very few times I’ve thought in five years if I still had a bath I’d have had a bath!Puppy was picked up and a bag of notebooks left with him! DD2 neighbour had said the evening before I need to get new notebooks for a new job…me: leave it with me😆 There was a pile from mums and from DD2.
Sorted through a box of photos from the garage.Dropped off some flowers for a friend. Walked there and back in the rain.
Saturday.Up early.
Picked up a lamp ( hmm, note to self ask for measurements, smaller than I thought!) off marketplace. Away the other side of town and every blooming traffic light red. Our town is full of traffic lights! Then went to see DD2. Both dogs had a good runaround but back garden was absolutely sodden. With all the Friday rain. Then home.
Hung out a washing.First fire of the season was lit. Saved putting the heating on. Started a book and read on and off.Made French toast for my tea. I’d bought nice bread the day before. Just a small loaf so that was nice as FT.Watched Strictly.Beautiful sunset. Then started watching Casualty but realised I didn’t see the end of first episode and there’s a second so that’s still to watch. So then it was Sunday! And a doggy woke up early as we used to do on a Sunday…we don’t need to any more but it means I see the sunrise! Going for an afternoon tea today using my leaving work voucher…me…I’m definitely doing that on a Sunday! Because I now can 😆
Have a lovely day!8 -
For yesterday,
Early wake up call as small dog needed the toilet NOW Mum, we all went back to bed for an hour or so.
Spent the morning at the yard, my girlie had the day off exercise wise but my friend’s horse is doing a dressage competition this week so watched her being worked, lovely sitting in the sunshine.
Driving home and car was stopped on country lane with hazards on, slowed down and asked if all ok? The lady smiled and said thank you but she was collecting berries for a church decoration, hedgerows were full of them and what a nice job for a sunny afternoon.
Home and made a loaf, listened to the footie ( we lost 🙄 ) and then enjoyed an evening walk.
Finally watched The Sixth Commandment, well 3/4 of the episodes so just the last one left for today, hard watch but fantastic acting.7 -
Hello. We're back.
Tried to speed read what I've missed.
Purple Kitten - I was hoping you'd be well on the way to sorted out by now. Fingers crossed things start to move in the right direction soon.
The cruise was wonderful. Nothing to do except chose what to eat and what to wear, with the occasional wander around a port! Just what the doctor ordered - literally in DH case!
We saw lots of lovely places but the highlight for me was sitting on the balcony each evening, still warm at 11pm, watching the lights on the coastline and just being together. Perfect!
And now it's back to washing, ironing and the usual round of medical appointments! And planning the next holiday!
Happy Sunday everyone

Yawn!As in I’ve just sat back down to write this in front of the log burner and let out a big yawn…as if my day has exhausted me 😆
Went back to bed this morning because I could and had another snooze.
Up and about and pottered around then niece picked me up and off we went to local castle for afternoon tea. Was very nice.Food was lovely. And we sat and chatted for 3 hours. And it was paid for by voucher.
Dropped off and phoned DD2.
Was by that point lashing with rain so fire on and caught up on second episode of Casualty.
Don’t really need fed tonight.8 -
hard watch indeed laineyt but excellently done - for something less harrowing thoroughly recommend "The Following Events Are Based on a Pack of Lies"
for yesterday while i wait for the rugby to start
1) slept very very well - sadly had to be out at 8:30 so the alarm woke me
2) we walked round the communal garden discussing what needs to be done - our fruit trees (planted earlier this year) have all settled in well
3) dd2's first night (7pm - 7am with a 2 hour 'lunch' break) went well but she needed to change extend the time needed for the van and they weren't picking up the phone so, after a power nap, off we went to town - took 3 minutes to change - then we went and she had a lorne sausage rolls and we both had mugs of tea in a greasy spoon
4) went to the matinee of Dundee Rep's "The Grand Old Opera House Hotel" - absolutely fabulous and my first 'old people' ticket - and bought a 'scottish breakfast pack' - lorne sausage, link sausages, black pudding and haggis
5) woke dd2 for 'breakfast' (the sausages), watched the rugby then bed
and for today
1) no sign of DD2 when i woke at 7:22 but now know night went well
2) remembered to take the candle stubs gbf had given me when he cleared out his vestry to the cathedral - there will definitely be people who will make good use of them
3) bought some ys chicken breasts on the way to the laundrette to pick up my service wash (2 bed covers - i did try once to do one in the bath - nearly broke my back getting it out of the bath and forever to dry!) then bus home - did i mention my bus pass
4) black pudding salad for lunch - a combi i would never have considered before having it at a restaurant - it was lish
5) butter chicken for me and DD2 and she's now off for her 3rd night shift - there's a portion left for her in the fridge for laterMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Fed the cat that is not mine. Then my cat decided she quite liked his biscuits. She has been off her food for several days so that was good.
3) Cleared all the former kitchen floor out of the garage with a couple of runs to the skips.
4) Went to M and S for a pot of tea and to do some Arabic.
5) Painted the hall, stairs and landing. Hopefully it won't need a third coat. Running quite short of that colour of paint.
6) Did meatballs for tea, with the sauce and lingonberry jam bought the last time we went to Ikea.8
