Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) Up for an hour in the middle of the night, coughing myself silly. Smaller son got up as well in the end. Cough now ever so slightly better.
2) Fiddled around in the morning. 2 loads of washing, cleaned the sink etc.
3) Went to Sainsburys cafe for a cup of tea and did some Arabic.
4) Took my friend to the Job Centre.
5) Went on a survey with my brother, stopping in Hereford on the way for a burger.7 -
For yesterday,
Woke up hungry so scrambled egg on toast for breakfast.
At the yard, very windy so decided my equine pal could have a duvet day, gave her a groom then chatted to my friend and yard manager.
Sorted out and polished my boots ahead of the colder weather.
Made a loaf and baked a couple of spuds to go with chilli for our evening meal.
Three deer in the field next to the cottage.6 -
Good mornjng. It seems winter has come in with the last horse of the St Leger here, as local lore has it.
D Doll - that seal is wonderful. DD will love it.
Highdays - not sounding too good for you and yours. Be gentle with yourselves for a while. Rest and recuperate.
PK - I'm so cross on your behalf I think MY blood pressure is up now!
Managed to get two lots of washing line dried on Sunday ( my strict Methodist grandma would excommunicate me! Laundry on a Sunday and then shamelessly pegged outside! ). Since then it's rained every day so washing hanging around inside. At least I'm not ironing most of it. Not much need for a sundress at the moment
Eye test yesterday ( annual because of incipient cataracts). New glasses ordered but not too expensive because I still have single vision lenses x2 rather than varifocals.
A hawk had killed a baby pigeon in our garden ( probably wasn't a hawk, but all those sort of birds are hawks to me. As a RSPB member I should be ashamed of myself!). The remains were half eaten and DH said he'd clear it away when we came back from shopping. When we did it had all gone! Just a few feathers left.
Back for third attempt to remove wax from DH ear today! Think they need a jigger pick!
Happy grey day everyone

Highdays, what a few days, but glad you are recovering from the dreaded covid.
1 Up very early doors to drop Nestle over for a vet op on his teeth, as we lovingly have the imperfects his jaw doesn’t align so bad things build up in his teeth, he needed 3 removed, a very ouchy spend day, and a rather sad ferret being made a fuss of.
2 Sardines for lunch for me, enjoying them, and it’s handy we inherited a lot of tins of them, just don’t ask the dates on them, so far, they are all okay working on non-dented tins is okay.
3 No exercise classes today, so some home-based exercise.
4 The house is clean again.
5 I realised I had planned tonight’s food on a delivery that doesn’t arrive for a day, so er we celebrated Nestles return with an easy oven pizza instead.

Hello! I wrote a post this morning trying to beat my low battery charge on iPad…I lost!Anyway for yesterday: felt a bit blah with snots and labyrinthitis.Went as far as supermarket.Made mince and potatoes for tea. And lovely Yorkshire puddings!Apple and pear crumble for pud. With a spare made for freezer and an extra bag of crumble mix.Evening of laughter and chatter.Wednesday
Felt a lot brighter today. A much more productive day!Went to castle for a roll and bacon and a nice doggy walk.Hung out a washing which had a very big blow! It’s been so windy! And thankfully got it in just before torrential rain!Ventured into the garage. So much crap that belongs to other people!Anyway put a few things up on local Fb page for free collection so a good few things have disappeared.Took doggy to vets to get weighed. Slight weight increase which is what we want. Also had a £10 voucher to spend so got a toy for him.Dropped off 20 more books at supermarket.Chat with son ( owner of much of the stuff) so went through what could go/stay for now. He’s doing okay.Brought in a big box of stuff…photos etc so have sorted through them. Chucked some. Kids can do whatever they want when I’m gone!Friend popped in so had a lovely chatter with her.Have munched all day so didn’t eat tea.8 -
Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Cough still improving.
3) Struggled to get anything done this morning, besides normal jobs. In the end, I went to Waitrose for a pot of tea and to do some Arabic. Hadn't been there for weeks! (No branch of Waitrose is very local). I was tempted by a fig tree (£15) but didn't buy it.
4) Homebase afterwards where I bought 2 very reduced pots of Chinese Lanterns (I had lots at the old house) plus a new paint roller head.
5) Took smaller son to Sainsburys for some snacks for the Man Utd match.
6) Did 6 hours of work in the kitchen. Pulled up another 1.5 layers of floor (only just took the first 2 layers to the tip!). Cleaned the ceiling, which was revolting. Took some more wallpaper off. Filled many holes and cracks in the plaster. It now looks worse than ever...
7) Just finished my tea, which was tasty.6 -
For yesterday,
Deep cleaned the en-suite, as always the only pleasure is when it’s done.
At the stables, it was so windy and having seen the trees surrounding the outdoor school waving wildly around I decided that discretion was the best part of valour and lunged my girlie instead, to her credit she was well behaved just a bit Woohoo! Afterwards she fell asleep in her stable and I sat in with her, listening to a podcast.
The rain came over in the afternoon so lots of pottering type jobs, changed the mantlepiece decorations ahead of Mabon - autumn equinox - at the weekend.
Sat down at 4 and watched Endeavour, they are repeating the earlier ones and I can’t remember the plots so it’s like a new episode ☺️
Drove over to nearby market town to meet up with friends for a meal, lots of laughter and a few tears as one is going through tough times but, as always, lovely to catch up. The drive home was a tad hairy as lots of flooding on the country roads but took it easy.7 -
Hello.
Much better day thank goodness! Mainly warm and sunny, just a quick shower this afternoon, and the wind seems to have died down.
Easier to find some pleasures today:
1) Had a couple of nights of waking up in the night quite chilly so yesterday we changed the duvets from the 4 tog to the 10.5. Blissful warm sleep, it's much 'puffier' and like sleeping in a cloud, definitely a good move.
2) Son's partner wants me to show her more complicated knitting than the scarf she is currently on with. Decided it was a good chance to sort all my wool, needles, patterns and so on. Don't knit much through the summer but do a lot through the winter months so it was a good chance to get sorted. Lots of my 'baby' patterns were my mum's and are for the cardigans she knitted for us as babies and that I knitted for my son before he was born. Some have my mum's notes in the margins so a real trip down memory lane. Send a lot of knitting to charities and the local hospital SCBU so looking forward to sending extra and we can enjoy a knit and natter!
3) We are both feeling much better so got a bit more done today. I managed a slow walk with my boy even though I had to keep stopping to breathe and my legs feel very jelly-like. Hubby got on with a bit of DIY with a bit of sitting in between jobs. Still, it's progress, so all heading in the right direction. Tired now though.
4) Decided while we are pretty much confined to barracks I might as well get on with the Christmas cakes. Between us we assembled all the ingredients and I have the fruit soaking in a mixture of Amaretto and rum, very potent! The boys are now too old to want to help decorate the top with all the Father Christmases and robins and stuff so, being northeners and therefore eating the cake with Wensleydale cheese, I won't bother with marzipan and icing but will decorate with nuts and fruit this year. Little fella and I can make and decorate some Christmas cookies instead. Had too many years of throwing out the marzipan and icing that don't really go with the cheese but do feel marginally guilty!
5) Have lost a few pounds (in weight) through not really having much of an appetite so a good boost to the pre-festivities diet. Every cloud and all that.....
It's felt like Friday all day for some reason so a 'bumper bonus' day tomorrow, hope you have a good one.
