For yesterday,
Into horsey town for supplies and a quick coffee with my friend.
With my pony, first a bath as she’d been laying in a poo! Bit of lateral groundwork and she was a good girl. Then bonnet up on car and duct taped the washer hose back on as it keeps popping off, knew I had some tape in my tack box as it’s handy for securing hoof poultices!
Home and hot by then so changed into sundress.
Bit too warm for working in the garden so pottered around in house, tidied a cupboard and put some books to one side for rehoming.
Made a bacon & egg pie for tea, did some dead heading and admired the buddleia which was covered in Red Admirals. Then evening tv watching of the new series of Annika, forgot how funny it can be.7 -
Good morning - and a lovely sunny one here again.
A hot, grizzly day yesterday, I was grumpy and cross and haven't totally recovered yet so beware! Fed up with people's incompetence, not doing what they say they are going to do and doing what they do do pretty shabbily and charging me a lot of money for the privilege. Grrr!
Pleasures amidst the non-pleasures:
1) I have blinds and curtains in my summerhouse. Trying to say no more on that subject but they cost me a lot of money from a big, well known made-to-measure company and the fitting was dire, track put up wrongly also means I now have holes in the summerhouse that look a bit like an attack of woodworm. Young lad had no idea on the basics of hanging curtains, painful to watch and told him just to leave it in the end before he did more damage! Hubby will help me take them down today and rehang correctly. Very cross and upset but we will get them right between us and won't be using them again.
2) A supplier was supposed to ring me yesterday to sort an invoice discrepancy so carried phone and paperwork round all day, no call naturally. The only pleasure there is it saved me having to deal with them, a pleasure deferred! Be good to get the money they owe me back at some stage.
3) More deliveries ready for the builders to come back tomorrow. Hopefully their work outside will then be finished for now.
4) Out to buy bits and bobs for visitors coming, little fella came with us, always a big pleasure.
5) A morning of jobs and then out this afternoon to a stately home and gardens, we will eat ice cream in the sunshine and little fella can go in the adventure playground.
Right, best get cracking then. Hope you have a good day.

Hello.Had a nice morning to myself. Went as far as supermarket. Took 19 books to charity bookshelf. Lots that had been passed on to me and I didn’t fancy reading. A few cook books. Still plenty to read.Work was finished in lounge this afternoon l so got all hoovered and floors washed once chap left.Washing out…unfortunately it got rinsed a couple of extra times as we had absolutely heavy showers…bouncing!DD2 had hospital this afternoon and wanted me to go with her. Holy moly at the traffic! It was horrendous. We were just five minutes late…so were the three sets in front of us and the people behind us! This was a see you in 6 months appointment from January 2021.
Home via doggy daycare. They have a tiny puppy so had little squishy cuddles from him.And hello to my doggy! He was fed 2/3 of his dinner before I left as it was a bit early so he got the rest when I got home…he was delighted 😃8 -
This has to be short as More Family descend tomorrow...OS Pleasures recentlyDid the scout safeguarding training which is both scary & reassuring. I got 100% on the test which is reassuring.Re-pegged the laundry to get the best of the breeze before sunset. (Back out again tomorrow afternoon, if met forecast is accurate. Good & breezy after early showers.) [That lovely texture under the fingers too. You fold off the line the promise of comfort and sleep.]Text from Middleson assuring me all is well (“git here fine” translated…)I’m re-reading Good Omens & chortling happily. I may watch season one (Amazon prime suddenly worth it!) then two!Repair shop, Ralph the rhino, Susie & a Teddy Bear Lady contemplating a stuffing stick & trying to keep straight faces. (How many outakes?!) The result is glorious, of course, but those two giggling helplessly….Learned what a Forsythe pot is! Must try that as a way of getting cuttings to get the idea.Drawing up lists of stuff to take down to mum’s like a pack of choc chips so youngest can bake her fresh biscuits & stuff to remember to bring back (like one of our good kitchen knives & the sharpening rod)Bumped into “several sandwiches short of a picnic” & am helplessly giggling at the wonderful eccentricity of idiom.Safe in Oxford visiting mum & playing where the dickens is my keyring as it’s not where I thought. 2 phone calls 2 emails down so far… pleasure is how nice people are being about it! [And that Youngest had them All The Time, just didn’t hear the incoming text or call beeps as headphones.] {Sense of humour restored!}Ye gods. Explain “sexting” & minutes later “diehard” to your mother. (She’s reading about Trump - can this be good for her blood pressure?!)In Oxford a book barely exists without Blackwells. That mum’s next book club tome is being shipped by Amazon (saving her wrestling with traffic, & the phone) is just one of those changes we barrel on past. The local grocer & butcher both are wonderful. A determined elderly lady & her in-tow daughter are met with great kindness & practical help. A till was staffed to help mum avoid the bewilderment of self check out. (Grandson unloaded the car & cooked lunch!)The new carer has arrived & is being shown round by the smashing lass she’s covering for. As usual, the cat has made an appearance, to vet his new member of staff.“What is a Coptic orthodox monastery?” Mum’s really bowling some dillies - she hadn’t grasped Copts are Christian in Muslim lands (and can be of several sorts), but are cherished by academics as they still speak a descendant of Demotic Egyptian. (I shudder to think what they’d use to explain sexting.)Reached you gov payout (& will never darken their servers again)!
Health Strength Love & Courage to all as have need, & abundant patience tact (& failing that, a really good alibi) in case.8 -
Just how do I follow that DfV?
anyway in no specific order some recent pleasures .
My Grandcat is staying for her holiday whilst son and family are on theirs ,she’s an active in and outdoors cat at home but has to be an indoor cat here ,would somewhat spoil their holiday if she was flattened on the nearby main road .Her at home holidays care fell apart at the last minute hence a trip to Grandmas .She is doing her best to have me over when I get up in the night .I have told her she needs to think her actions through as if I fall and do damage ,she wouldn’t be fed !Finally admitted defeat and went to a chiropodist today ,just not flexible enough at the moment .my feet feel wonderful !
made jam with homegrown blackcurrants
continuing with decluttering , a lot has gone to charity shop but there still seems to be so much here .
hope you are all ok
I do read most days and am in awe of you all8 -
For yesterday,
Cloudy to start with but plenty of sunshine later, lovely.
At the yard and girlie was worked in the school where she was a little star, light in the hand and forward going without rushing. She is a horse that likes to work and doesn’t need much leg! She had a cool hose down afterwards and a bit of extra hay after working so hard.
Talking of which the smell in the hay barn is fantastic now the harvest is in, big bale after big bale stacked up ready for winter.
Quite a lazy afternoon, finished my Strike novel which was complicated but good and I do like the dynamic between Corm & Robin.
Capt S busy with auditors so evening walk was just me, our old girl kind of ambles along now rather than charging about but she needs the sniffs etc.
Had fished out some cooked gammon from the freezer so tea was sort of a hash thing with fried pots & onion, ham and pepper then an egg broken and baked on top, yummy and yes, there was a glass of wine as well.7 -
Hello again.
Sunny and dry so far but rain forecast later, hope it holds off as long as possible.
My grumpy feeling is dissipating somewhat but still lingering so I am a bit short-tempered and snarly and easily riled but improving!
With that in mind here are some pleasures:
1) We didn't even attempt any jobs before we went out yesterday. We cobbled together a picnic and went out for the day with little fella and had a lovely time, mainly in the adventure playground! He has a knack of gathering a group of children and organising them into games, quite hilarious really as he is so bossy but they all fall in with what he wants them to do and suddenly half a dozen or so kids who were just playing on their own are all playing and laughing together. He is a born organiser!
2) Delicious homemade ice cream and cups of tea in the cobbled courtyard enjoying the sunshine and blue skies.
3) Home and we took down and sorted the curtains in the summerhouse. The 'expert fitter' had made a right mess of
tthem, I am still really cross at the money we spent and also cross that people treat me as if I'm stupid when I've hung more curtains in my lifetime than he's had hot dinners. But I'm going to have to 'let it go' now and we have them sorted. Have used old strings of beads and tiny brass bells as tiebacks and they do look good now and will do the job I want them to do.
4) Just about to start prepping tea and son's partner popped in to say they were ordering a takeaway and would we lie to join them. Most definately! So moseyed 'next door' with a bottle of lovely red and over-indulged in delicious curries and accompaniments sat in what will be their kitchen-diner with the bifolds open and we all agreed when it has floors and walls and furniture it will be amazing!
5) A slow start for me this morning but the builders are here and really cracking on with my cobbled patio. Thank goodness for expert craftsmen who, all the way through our build, have done the most amazing work to the highest standard and really 'get us'. Expensive but worth their weight in gold.
Will make a real effort not to be so mardy today. Hope you enjoy your weekend.

For today,
Bit of a lie-in followed by coffee & croissants.
Wanted to get some jobs done before the England match so made a loaf, washed small dogs bedding and changed our bed as well. Sat down at 11.25 so good timing, good to see us through against tough opponents.
Capt S had come to the conclusion that he will never be a size 32 waist again and sorted out several pairs of his jeans to rehome so they were dropped off at the Scope shop in town before heading off to the yard.
My equine pal had a day off after her exertions from yesterday so just a nice long groom before turning her out for the night, sat in her field for a bit just watching her graze and enjoying the nice afternoon.
Listened to the U’s commentary on the way home and pleased to hear that we won again, good start to the season.
Tasty tea of steak & chips.6 -
Hello. Almost bedtime. It’s almost dark outside. And only 9.20pm. Solar lights glistening in the rain! It’s been a day of much weather, really heavy rain showers, then dry, then repeat…often!Skinny club first thing. Then home. Then felt rather blah and achy most of day, so kind of reclined and dozed and reclined and dozed! Not really doing very much at all.Went to beach around 6pm. Was wet here and dry there then wet here when I got back. We had a nice walk.Decided ( in my madness) to try and wash the dog. Lordy! I have a scraped foot but he is nice and clean. It was such a trauma for him ( it’s usually done by two of us ( good cop/bad cop) but just me…anyway he smells nicer and next time I won’t do it on my own. Lesson learned!More reclining ! Watching Casualty in real time. It’s usually always in catch up.7

We’ve been in our happy place in Wales, it’s been restorative, broadband was non-existent this time with problems there. In peace there were bats flying around our heads, curlew songs. Evening walks around a castle.
Revived we are back home starting on the mountains of washing.
We reclaimed the front and back garden, deadheading, watering, strimming, and mowing, with a bit of pruning.
Dinner was from the freezer.
