Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Another morning of invigilation.
3) Went to floody city afterwards and sat in the crypt of the cathedral. Even that wasn't exactly cold!
4) Waitrose afterwards for tea and Arabic.
5) Changed my bed and 1 load of washing is on the line.
6) Cut smaller son's hair. Had to turn the fan off to do so!
7) Had a Greek takeaway for tea.
8) Practising juggling 4 and have managed 88 catches now. Once you reach 100, you are pretty much there with learning a new trick.
Not a pleasure is the house solicitor who is making such heavy weather of something so simple (that I alerted her to 9 weeks ago...) that I am seriously thinking about changing companies tomorrow.7 -
For yesterday,
Phew, another scorcher! Nice to go food shopping and be in the cool.
Over to the yard, bit of work for girlie then we went for a walk with my pal & her horse.
Am playing catch up on chores as we have company for the weekend, sorted out upstairs and it was nice to sit down afterwards knowing it’s done.
Long chat with my bf.
Sitting outside in the cool of the evening and watching the bats fly around the cottage.6 -
Hello.
Another day of much heat!A bit of a disrupted night last night as The Chap wasn’t well and I got a late night call to go over. And then a call this morning to puppy sit so they could go to GP.So my doggy and I only had an early morning walk and not a beach one as I was rather tired.Nice time with puppy. He liked his new toy and slept for a while.Went to B &Q for some plants as I had a voucher.Home and hello doggy!I was given a lovely bunch of flowers.Had salad leaves from friend with my lunch and tea! Saved buying salad!I’m waiting on a blooming parcel…between 8am and 9pm, obviously heading towards the latter! Also I’d ordered a new vacuum cleaner early this morning and then had an email to say it hadn’t been verified and the amount was paid back to my account but if I still wanted it here’s a further 10% off ( was already discounted !) so that’s coming tomorrow and my old one can go to DD2. It’s not particularly old but it was a bit battered from clearing my mums house last summer. Still works but not as efficiently as it did.7 -
Lainey, we both have stomach issues over here, I’ve just ordered up some arrowroot to try after talking to someone who has used it and now swears by it.
1 A couple of roses I ordered arrived and look amazing quality, the black baccara in memory of our pure polecat Bourneville, and his soul mate Topic gets a pure white true love rose.
2 A day of tidying and sorting.
3 Made a minted chop and veg parcel for dinner, feeling acutely aware of the leccy cost thou.
4 DH has spent most of the day installing a tap on the front of the house with timer and the start of a drip water system just in time for the hose ban, thankfully reading up on it the low-pressure drip feeding is fine. It’s a lot of work to set up thou.
5 Planted up some snap dragons and happy to have some seeds to try and grow for next year.

Good morning. Another hot day on the cards. If it doesn't rain soon I'll have to wash the car!
Again, many pleasures in one. DH is slowly improving. A combination of sleep, good food, arnica and fresh air, sitting in the garden, is working to make him feel, and look, better. Also some good news from the oncology nurse about scan results helped a lot. Still biopsy results to wait for, but they can take a fortnight so we'll just concentrate on him getting stronger for now.
I heard from my Canadian cousin. She's been to visit her son in Quebec and went on a Louise Penny tour. She said you can't visit Three Pines because it doesn't exist ( though lots of us like to think it does!) But they went to similar villages in the area and also to some of the places that are in the books and really do exist. I'm not jealous at all!
Happy sunny Saturday everyone6 -
Not surprised they can’t find Three Pines HappyCas, after all it doesn’t show on any maps 😉
For yesterday,
The excitement in our house over breakfast with the Ashes starting.
Changed the bed and cleaned the bathrooms, we have guests for the weekend.
Went to see my equine girlie, it was really quite hot so we just did 20 mins of work then she had a nice, cool hose down. She had quite a few fly bites so dug out a spray and applied some of that. It’s all natural with no chemical nasties. Stopped at store on way home and picked up some Teatree shampoo for her plus a salt lick.
Home and have to confess that most of the afternoon was spent on the sofa watching the cricket.
Quick tea of chicken kebabs, new pots and salad.6 -
Number 1 in all ways yesterday was the absolute pleasure of meeting 3 lovely gents - all lefthanders like & ;-) - in Town of Horse Trav.Perk. 21m timber obligingly sorted+cut in two sizes and just £30 for 19 new garden bench slats. Nearby rivals were obnoxious, ignorant, gougingly expensive and seemed to revel in being so - apparently consistently so, since last year's Huws Gray national takeover. Stared through and ignored by 5 members of staff for over 5 mins, in empty store, before & then spoke to them. Unreal behaviour, rude, with added oickery. The contrast with TP was beyond stark. One quietly said their business is up because of it, with people arriving and unloading verbally with what they've just experienced.2. Seedy bread still on first rise, very slow. Too slow for last night's anticipation of fresh bread this morning to come to anything. But it will, eventually.3. Finished Robert Goddard's 'Panic Room' up on The Gallops, gripping stuff, def. a ring of feasibility and warning for our times......to which this biker is oblivious.
Startling to see him arrive, then lie back in such a way for over 5 minutes. Looked impossible.
& now happily beginning Patrick Barkham's 'Islander'.4. Two late August concerts booked. 1st in Dorchester, then Canon Frome Court. Rather looking forward to meandering 5 days from one to next, bookended by beloved Spookymen's Chorale, of course.5. Enjoying all the Three Pines and Louise Penny comments here. Also, & will have new Martin Walker/Bruno before long - author alert very welcome.#Easeful weekends to all and happy times of your choosing. Looking rather cloudy suddenly.
