Good morning
Well, after my moaning about our cold weather, yesterday was glorious. That perfect English summer weather. Bright, warm but with the gentlest of breezes. Spent as much time as possible in the garden. We both need a vitamin D top up!
So not much was done. Some lazy dead heading. DD has decided she wants dried flowers at her wedding so I'm amusing myself by experimenting with different flowers and seedheads. Inside our shed looks lovely!
Sunny again now so I suspect very little will be done today either. And I just don't care!! I'll spend the day just enjoying being together with DH.
Happy 🌞day everyone

Morning all.
Some pleasures:
1) At last we have summer in our neck of the woods, glorious yesterday and the same today. Got the doors open out into the garden so it feels as if the outside comes right in. Lovely!
2) We are having a very lazy weekend after a busy week. Just pottering and reading and planning a dark patio now our shady border is complete. Thinking something to contrast with the other stone to create a separate seating area, hence the 'dark' bit. Builders are here today so will have a chat with them, they usually manage to convert what is in my head to reality.
3) Easy meals in the hot weather using up our 'stores' ready for going away later in the week.
4) Why do I always leave it till the weather is hot before sorting out my summer clothes?! Anyway I've made a start and sandals have replaced boots which are now packed away - it's a start and one day I might become a very organised person...
5) Some very good reading on the go, a pile of new releases from the library so spoilt for choice at the mo.
Hope you have a lovely Sunday and thoughts are with Happycas, hoping tomorrow goes ok for hubby and he is soon on the mend.8 -
Tottering slightly - I was not built for heat. Good old RL is being a right mix of the fabulous & the frantic but with a pinch of fun in amidst just to stop me from trying to hide under the bed.Highdays - I envy you little fella & still getting Sports Days even if I miss the Nativities more! "one day I might become a very organised person" - be careful what you wish for?!newlywed - hurrah for rosebudsFrith - a solicitor who can undulate past a required signature - you have a gem there! (The doorbell footage of juggling works & I am awed at your talents yet further.) Park run is its own special pleasure.DundeeDoll - pints of water seem a blinking good call.mhagster - I'm all for thunderstorms - it sluices the dust off the car! A bit of warning helps... Garden cushions safe, veggies watered Anyway!Happycas - the days before are always ticklish & there are only so many skirting boards you can scrub (& other distracting chores) but hopefully relative warmth will return & also some peace of mind?! Dried flowers to start with - genius! May I recommend herbs for both scent & structure?LaineyT - huge hugs to Vin's person & so much love to you & your lovely girl. Surely the channel for a couple of months is more OS than repeated trips to Lords?ampersand - happily imagining team warmups around big tablecloths... Glorious rose! Guardsmen toppled at Trooping rehearsal? <schedules plans..>
Purple kitten - please be gentle with yourself in this heat?So OSPs recentlyLoo flush playing up again, peace restored with a strategic toothbrush. The water saved I shall water my miniature trees with, & enjoy a clearer conscience. [Seems I need an entirely new cistern, but the toothbrush is working So Far!]Ooh new prepping thread! A shrewdly loaded larder is a savings scheme & peace of mind.Son in trousers held up by partially closed zip “they’re staying up, all’s good”. I may have to haul him clothes shopping, which seems cruel.Reference book has arrived & I can now try to date some of the silver charms. Just it’s a bit American and nearly all I have is British. Still, it’ll help the lads realise that biscuit tin might be worth Something! (Funeral costs covered.)Watched the Derby & oh, to see King of Steel emerge gloriously, beautifully, before being eclipsed by Auguste Rodin! Wonderful race, and not a flicker of mischief to be seen unlike the National - lessons clearly learned.Continuing my have-a-go gardening, I have shoved four pots under the tayberry & loganberry & tried to persuade them to consider layering. No idea if it’ll work, if they need more water or tlc but both plants are healthy so seems worth a pop.Moon-gazing, prompted by Youngest. He’s seen a badger too, but as I gaze utterly at this amazing strawberry, mead or honey Moon, it’s like thirds of pudding - a badger would be too much.Middleson maintaining his excellent figure taking a mattock to the garden - have ordered green manure seeds so it hopefully doesn’t weed over in seconds. This heat though….It is so good to see bedding flapping on the line. That I have to shake May blossom out of dried things is almost part of the fun. It’s taken mango seedling Keith days to unfurl a leaf & get on with the photosynthesising! Darn nearly a proud mother moment, only I’m the help. [Four leaves, now! nearly Bursting with pride here at my green family]I love it when the triumvirate works together - one’s watering the little fruit trees (& I saw him being ruthless with the bindweed), one’s cooking pizza & I’ve just taken the last wash off the line, folded & sorted, handing kitchen stuff to the cook as I go!The weekend in Oxford, cosseting mum & hearing the delighted croons of her carer as we carry on cooking & driving & having fun & she can have real time off & meals she hasn’t cooked!Met an old friend whilst buying a stick blender - he was buying a Barbie thing for his daughter & we chuckled at the stereotypes. Seems the legal practice has recently had ashes added to the document vault & some staff are twitchy, whereas he greets them politely each morning & carries on.Carrying a large slightly delicate plastic panel for a godfather - his caravan got a bump & he managed to find a replacement (at unspoken-of cost!) so I picked it up from a Uni pal rolling south & will deliver it to the caravan when it is at silverstone as we go north - this favour has reunited me with several Uni faces! [And left with "God", this being the admin hub from which all judgements are issued, all desires shrewdly guessed at and from whom very few secrets are hid. Several thousand folks all having fun though & me blinking at, in the heat.]Ah, Pratchett, & the Feegles… Love the characters, so much personality!Refilled the bird feeder with fatballs & noticed two devoured in a day - filled it again as mum does love seeing the birds perch & peck.Old pupil of dad’s, now retired professional himself, came for lunch & yarned over coffee - very restful & familiar to hear stories of nuclear power politics from a slightly more tranquil time from a familiar armchair! (Amusingly he & I both hooked on Barbara Peter’s Havers - a flawed Lord is one thing but her particular assortment of quirks & moderate vices resonate with us both!)Youngest cooked a second lot of biscuits - vanished a Lot faster than I expected - but larger appreciative audience.Rain! Sudden lots of noisy rain! No need to worry about watering stuff tonight. [Back home however, watering continues, desperately needful as it’s 26C - ooof!]"Why’d you have a bag for frozens?" "So they don’t fight with the other groceries…." I appear to occasionally channel Himself's hilarious logic.Lovely lady asked how I “& my lovely little lads are?” & was appalled to hear youngest had turned 21…. “It can’t be that many years!” We agree to forgo arithmetic & enjoy the memories.Oh, we’re home: "Middleson? Middleson! It’s starting to rain, do you want to fetch your kayak in off the washing line?!" "Cheers, mum." All safe in before the thunder started… Birds still chirping & twittering even as the wind gusts start to play “just how heavy is that roof tile” (stone, tends to win, but the game can be noisy)Health Strength Love & Courage to all as have need, alongside warm layers, sunscreen, waterproofs & adequately reliable weather forecasting!9 -
Hello.Day one done at work…one more to go then my outta office sign is on! I can do it !Thankful for rain though was glad at the point we doggy walked it wasn’t on…imagine having to pull on a hoody! However by the time I got to work it was lashing!Work was hot. The heat is already there from the day before and then the ovens get switched on and the big pot of soup goes on and then the grills go on! Aargh! Was nice. And I’ve came upstairs where it’s a bit cooler than downstairs. Window open and birds singing.8 -
"Sunny" Southern California is going to be lucky to get to 18C today. Heat has been in hiding this year. They are even predicting rain for the next couple of days- not much but it is unusual to have any this time of year. Dog is shedding her winter coat though - all over me. Having to brush off the fur several times a day. Hope the heat doesn't get too bad there.7

Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) A visit from bigger son! He came up on his bike (he has only done 35 miles in his car over the last month but something like 900 miles on his bike.
3) We went to floody town to look round the charity shops then into carpet town to have lunch at the Greek cafe.
4) I made toad in the hole for tea with carrots and broccoli.
5) Smaller son and I had a lovely walk round the edge of the forest then the rain came again. After 5 minutes, we were saturated so we just carried on steadily back to the car, watching the lightning in the distance. Flash floods on the way home.
6) Watched a bit of the Soccer Aid match.8 -
1 Ditto Lainey, a terrible night’s sleep, so ended up sleeping in.
2 Planted the rest of the plants.
3 There was an afternoon nap.
4 We chatted and reigned in another camping trip, but will visit for a day instead, and seem to be getting dates now for an actual break.
5 Finished the bottom of freezer, 2-year-old cherry pie.

For yesterday,
Up at 7 and took small dog for a walk around the fields before the heat built up.
A very lazy day otherwise, it was too hot to sit outside even under the garden parasol so we lounged around inside instead, reading our books and listening to the radio.
Food wise it was a grazing day with salad, ice-cream and fruit featuring heavily ☺️ We did eat our first homegrown strawberry of the year.
Continued with our Succession obsession, we are now on series 2.
Bit of a breeze got up later, we watered once sun had moved around and small dog got excited running through the stream of the hose.

whereabout in California @weenancyinAmerica? 2020 we stayed 3 months in Davis (and 2019 at the tender age of 36 and despite being born and bred in Luton with its 'London' airport, my first flight was to San Fransisco for a conference in Monterey)

2) Dundee Pride - lovely weather though had to leave quite early as

5) then back to Mennies for the Champions final - game scrappy but was pleased with the result
