5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Hello again.
Damp and grey today, feeling very sorry for those camping out for the Coronation tomorrow, hope it clears up a bit.
Some pleasures for today:
1) I've gor a battered and very well-used 'Cranks' too, will revisit it - the nut roast and mushroom burgers and the lentil and cheese wedges are particular favourites we haven't had for ages. Just been and raked it out and it's in about six pieces and totally covered in splashes, a well-used cookery book! Also 'inherited' my mum's copy, in much better condition than mine.
2) Had several bits of boring admin type stuff to do today, wouldn't be such a job if I was a bit more organised and kept on top of things. Anyway, the pleasure is it's all sorted and I'm feeling very virtuous.
3) Hubby did the ironing this morning while I did some food prep, think he drew the short straw but he was happy with the deal as he is definitely not a chef, pasta with a jar of sauce is about his limit. Hmmm....no thanks.
4) Out to the shopping centre to do some errands. Cash to be paid in, online orders to collect and some nice fruit and veg and 'Coronation treats' to be bought. Not overly keen on the whole Coronation thing but it's history in the making so we will be watching tomorrow, nice nibbles will pass the time pleasantly. Will watch the concert on Sunday to see if we can spot brother and SIL.
5) Was getting a bit anxious about my outfit for the wedding in July. I've got my very cheap supermarket frock but other family members have been buying very expensive outfits. In a panic I've been looking and ordering and trying on but not found anything I like as much as my bargain buy. Tried it on today complete with my stupendously expensive and very beautiful hat, shoes and bag, jewellery and optional jacket (who knows what July will be like?). Anyway, hubby and I both agreed it looks fine - think the hat elevates it somewhat! So I'm looking no further, just hope I can carry it off with a degree of panache. There is also a garden party the next day for which I am wearing a pretty dress I've only worn a couple of times before, will get a cheap pair of maybe silver sandals and that's me done. What to do with the hundreds of pounds I have saved??!!
Right, off to finish tea prep, really tired this evening so an hour or so of mindless telly after tea and then an early night with a new book. Bliss!
Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend.8 -
Bedtime! The alarm is set for totally ridiculous o’clock. Monster weekend ahead. God save the king 👑
Anyway up and out and on beach at 6.30am . Fabulous walk . Tide way out and just us.Home in time for decorator arriving at 8am . One room painted. Two to go. But as he’s fitting me in between other jobs. Next one is next Friday .Nice chat to DD1.Just seen the baby birds…out their nest and on my fence. Mummy still feeding them.
Popped up to a friend to make a platter for her then in to work for an hour to prep for my silly start.Walked there and back. It’s a nice evening.7 -
Currently, crashing thunder with matching downpours circling up on The Gallops.
1. A glorious Fistful of Spookies concert in Midhurst yesterday, along with Dansk choir, Vokalkompagniet. & was soon in full Spookies regalia, including previous tour shirt. Wonderful greetings and hugs from them - 'Not as far to travel as Denmark this time!', altho' it was still 158 miles each way. &'s 'Soddit! moment' count is mounting nicely .
Another done, for the annual G&S in the barn next month.
Look at the knitting!
Loved the tiny ferns and daisy coronet growing in the ancient church wall.
Seeing the horror of this ancient place recently destroyed. Everyone spoke about it. Returning to carpark, stood next to a chap who had travelled from Scotland to see it, 'my childhood'. He had tears, said much. During concert interval, heard about its Elizabethan origins and various theories - how? who? what next?
2. Setting off for osp 1, went a few miles......then turned back to vote! No idea how & nearly forgot!!!
3. Was spending night on coast, but 3am NZ em meant & returned, so as to finalise $biz, after nearly a year. Done is done! Nearly there now. More lovely time with Natwest's S in Town of Horse. His Mum's last days were down Midhurst way. Happy chats and pics shared both ways.
4. All-night election news definitely helped an arduous drive back.
5. A long-defunct azalea has returned to life, many pink flowers and leafy green clusters.

& there are some amazing post box toppers turning up in various places.
1 I did get the whole upstairs vaxxed which was needed, and a daft sense of achievement as you wash the dirty water away.
2 Checked on all the planted things that survived the night, but no rain so watered around.
3 Made a pizza for lunch, and grilled chicken with cheesy chickpea pasta and veg is tea, I am just heating up some dippy hot cheese and a hot roll to dip in it for a savory snack.
4 Trying to see the meteor shower but too much light around here.
5 Dh surprising me by making me sit through a royal romance film, I suppose in keeping with the weekend.

Pleasures for today (Friday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Survived 8 long hours of vote counting. Not the best organisation this time. Was nice to see some people I knew. One friend is the agent for a 20 year old (year above my son at school and we see him at football). He is now a councillor! 2 other friends are now also councillors, all for the LP. My colleague had not counted before and it was the "grass skirt" method, as people could vote several times on the same ballot paper which makes it much more complicated to count. Anyway, every time someone got voted in, all the other candidates and hangers on clap. We are not allowed. She just kept clapping anyway, out of habit! We were laughing about it each time as she had to sit on her hands.
3) My sister brought round copies of some paperwork I need for the house sale. I gave her some hollyhock seedlings.
I will save 2 pleasures for another day.
Smaller son suddenly said this morning he had appalling toothache. He said this as I was going out of the door to be trapped in a room all day with no mobile phone use allowed... My brother managed to get through to the dentist with an appointment tomorrow at 9.10. He also tried 111. I got home and tried 111 again and there are literally no dentists in our county with no emergency provision at all.
My sister brought more painkillers round but he is basically marching around downstairs and crying.
I'm glad the dentist could fit us in but I must miss Park Run now which has upset me, as I was looking forward to picking up the guys.8 -
@Frith - have you tried having your son rinse his mouth out with hydrogen peroxide and water - I use half and half, and repeat three times - hold in mouth . rinse, spit out and repeat. The hydrogen peroxide helps kill the germs and helps with the pain. I also used to keep a small bottle of cloves on hand to use on toothaches. I used a cotton-tipped swab - but these seem to be illegal there- to place it on the tooth as it burns if spread around. Not sure what you would use instead. But it will kill infections also.6

Morning all.
Oh dear Frith i hope smallest son gets sorted.
Pleasures for thursday
1. ploughing through marking - three first class dissertations helps!
2. met friend in park (rearranged from wednesday). Haven't seen her for a few weeks, was nice to catch up.
3. my 'little' (he's 6'6 🤣) brother won a national pool championship (in the seniors class) 🥳
4. watched some episodes of Night Agent
5. OH unblocked DD's drains - thanks for nothing Severn Trent
And yesterday
1. lots of walking - to, from station, to sister in law's house, to restaurant.
2. despite being potentially soaked during a sudden downpour, we kind of got away with it
3. Nice to see SiL and we went out to lunch in a middle eastern restaurant - after which she treated us to coffee and cake at a restaurant she works in (after OH unblocked her drains also - he's practically an expert now 🤣)
4. finally getting home after a tedious train journey.
5. cheese, biscuits and a glass of red for dinner!
Have a good day all - whether you Coronation or no. I'm a bit ambivalent myself but will probably watch highlights at some point.I wanna be in the room where it happens7 -
& there is a wonderful lady at AR hospice who will be witnessing her 3rd coronation this weekend and has been knitting in celebration, wonderful stuff.
For yesterday,
The normal Friday chores of changing the bed, making bread and generally tidying up, out to get petrol and admired the green of the trees against the black clouds, not so admiring couple of miles down the road when canopy over pumps provided little cover!
Off to Uni city for much needed haircut, not so hare bear bunch now!Quick return home to get changed and then over to see pony, it was going to be her first night left out in her field so walked her back out after exercise and she kept looking at me as if to say is this right Mum? Her equine neighbours were all out as well and when I slipped off the head collar she charged away down the field like a kid let out of school!
Home, hungry so chicken pieces coated and baked in oven, coleslaw and couscous made.
As & says lots of rain and thunder, my pony is out! But temperatures are mild and she is a horse, native breeds at that so all will be well.9 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep, considering.
2) Smaller son now has a puffy face on one side! We got to the dentist at 9.10 and he has an abscess under one tooth. He has antibiotics now, and more painkillers, and there has been an improvement.
3) He had a nap after the dentist so I sat in M and S cafe and did some Arabic. It was quiet in there as I imagine people were watching some man put on a posh hat. Went to Sainsburys afterwards.
4) Nice messages from the Park Run people as I couldn't go today. They had 19 chaps, which is a record!
5) Tasty part baked rolls with salad and pulled pork for our tea.
6) Phoned my school friend.8 -
For yesterday,
Bit of a lie-in followed by leisurely breakfast of boiled egg and marmite soldiers.
Watched the horsey part of the coronation!
Dreadful day weather wise with almost constant rain, over to see my pony who now spends the days in her stable thus avoiding the sugar packed grass, she was asleep when I got there. Bit of a fuss and a groom, watched another horse being ridden and generally socialised with other owners. Popped girlie out at 5, the forecast was heavy rain all night so did put a waterproof sheet on her. Drove home through a lot of puddles!
Made a chilli, have taken to popping a couple of squares of 100% cocoa choc in it, mmm.
Watched two episodes of Dalgleish and then read until bedtime.
