A late-ish and quick hello, just waiting for hubby to come back from picking son and his partner up after a night on the town.
Today's pleasures:
1) Eventhough we are retired so technically every day is a holiday, weekends and Bank Holidays still feel 'different' so we are in full-blown holiday mode. Basically, no cleaning or domestic duties, hooray!
2) Did a bit of exploring of our immediate surroundings yesterday with a walking tour of our local town. We are being regenerated and the river side is being developed, looking good so far. Also an open day for the little chapel on the bridge, been there since the 15th Century and was once the local jail. I didn't but hubby squeezed down the tiny staircase to look at the cells and where prisoners had scraped their names on the stone walls. Fascinating stuff!
3) Was good to escape the builders, joiners, bricklayers etc. Everywhere we looked there was someone, but they cracked on and good progress was made.
4) To our nearby hall and gardens today, they told us when we first went last year that we must come in bluebell season so today we went and, oh my goodness, they were just incredible. A blanket of blue that went on and on through all the woods, never seen anything like it, truly breathtaking.
5) Packing a picnic and taking littlest grandson to a stately home tomorrow, there is an adventure playground to keep him amused and local brass bands and a jazz band to keep us amused. Should be fun and the forecast is looking good so fingers crossed.
Hope you enjoy the Bank Holiday and happy May Day.11 -
For yesterday,
It was a beautiful sunny morning so a pleasure to be up early and walking small dog, just a gentle meander past the beech trees and down the road as she is still recovering.
Home, bacon butties for breakfast and then caught up on all things Ambridge.
Plenty of pottering around the garden, watered my seedlings and chopped one of my grasses right down to see if that will provoke it back into life. Asked the apple tree for a small donation so that I could bring in the green for Beltane eve.
Long, lazy lunch with wine then rest of the day was spent reading, either outside on the swing seat or back inside on the sofa when the wind got up and made it chilly.
We caught up on the first two episodes of the new Dalgleish series then enjoyed a few games of Yahtzee.

Enjoying our week in Norfolk and we’ve had lovely sunny weather for the last 2 days ☀️
On Saturday we went to Wells next to the sea where we enjoyed fish and chips, then onto Holkham Bay, where I reckoned I had last been 55 years ago as a child when I walked down to the sea for a swim! Then on to Burnham Market for a refreshing pint in the sun. Charming place.
Yesterday we headed to Cromer where after a walk and an ice cream 🍦 on the pier, I had my favourite crab 🦀 in a roll (had to be done) OH had fish and chips again. We ate sitting in the sun overlooking the sea 😋. We then stopped at Felbrigg Hall, another beautiful NT house.
Came back for a snooze as exhausted, not sleeping well in creaky bed!
OH needs to rest his ankle so we will probably go to a nearby Broads village and hopefully find a pub for dinner.
Enjoy the rest of the bank holiday 😊9 -
Beautiful paulieherts my parents moved to Southrepps (in between Cromer, Mundesley and North Walsham) when i was 16. We used to go to Felbrigg and Cromer a lot. Got married in 87 in Southrepps and we started our honey moon in Blakeney before driving up to Wensleydale. Many happy memories and I must go back some time.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hi everyone, back again!
Today's pleasures:
1) Lovely memories of Norfolk, one of our last holidays with my mum and dad. We all enjoyed Felbrigg and Blickling very much and the Cromer crab. My dad had been very poorly in hospital with pneumonia but was determined to go eventhough we weren't sure he was up to it, said the thought of going had kept his spirits up in hospital when he couldn't sleep. In the event he was very frail but enjoyed the trip, couldn't walk very well but we took the wheelchair and have some lovely photos of him zipping round the NT properties on a buggy with a big grin on his face. Happy days!
2) A lovely sunny day, bit chilly in the wind but very warm in the sun.
3) A lovely holiday atmosphere on our day out, everyone sat in the sun enjoying the brass band and the jazz musicians. It was so busy that parking was pretty horrrific, why do people act so inconsiderately?! However, the house and grounds absorbed everyone without any sense of crowding and a good time was had. Lots of singing along and foot tapping, much to grandson's embarrasment!
4) Little fella had fun in the adventure playground and ran around a lot. He will sleep tonight...as will we after a lot of fresh air and walking. Got that lovely feeling you have when you've been outside having some exercise and the sun has warmed your bones a bit - tired and happy.
5) Still on 'holiday' so a very quick and easy tea to round off a lovely weekend of getting out and about. A more normal day tomorrow as some meal prep and washing will need to be done but we've had a lovely time and 'real life' isn't too bad either!
Hope you've all enjoyed yours too.9 -
Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Did the washing up mountain and a few other jobs round the house.
3) M and S for some Arabic and a pot of tea.
4) English lessons this afternoon, went OK.
5) Smaller son is happy. We are in the play offs tomorrow so tickets have been purchased for our travel and to watch our team play at Alfreton.8 -
Hello. Late for me. I’m sat up in bed which is at the opposite side of the room from usual and facing out in to the hallway. I’ll either sleep really well or badly! We’ll see! Just the bit of carpet that was under my bed to lift in the morning ( DD2 and her chap kindly shifted my bed and moved the mattress off the spare bed into the main bathroom ) nearly new carpet day ( Wednesday)
Anyway for the first day in May ( as in how is it May already?)
Up early and into work early. Hello to the delivery chap delivering two doors down from work. Used to see him everyday when it was lockdown times and I was in day after day after day at silly o’clock doing catering.Nipped home to see my doggy boy and hung out a load of washing. Brought my wee tiny fruit scone home with me as I hadn’t had a chance to eat it before. So enjoyed it.
Then back to work in crazy ville. ‘Oh we didn’t know if you were open today!’ ( yeah but still you’ve arrived!) awh that’s a shame you have to work today ( but yet you’re still here) so, so busy! However in amongst the craziness of it all people were exceptionally generous with tips and I got the most I’ve had since my last shift before I went off in 2020.Nipped in to supermarket to get a birthday card and a bunch of RTC flowers for niece, then home for dinner with the niecelys and DD2 and the Chap. My doggy was so happy to see everyone however it got to a point he was just wandering about his duck looking for a quiet place to schnook in peace. And the doggy and his friend The Boy have somehow managed to get mud all over my newly cleaned patio. Grrrr. And as lovely as it was to see everyone I felt like schnooking with a duck when they all left. Instead I finished the dishes and I sorted out my flowers. Birthday flowers still going almost 5 weeks on!Remembered I had a half eaten piece of malteser slice in my bag! Yummy!Chat to friend on phone. And the sparkle of solar lights and a moon in the sky. Then up to my weird bedroom!9 -
dear peeps who have warmth, send some up to Scotland!!!
1) lovely walk into work - I do believe there was a bit of warmth in the morning
2) my larder fodder lunch was lish and that's another tin of old curry powder finished
3) went to see friend who fell and broke his femur - he's on ward 18 and already had one visitor - he had nothing but praise for the ambulance service (picked up in 10 minutes), the A&E doctor, his surgeon (operated on within 24 hours) indeed all the staff
4) was running late for the Luton match so got the bus - had a coke then home for supper and DD2 just happened to be driving back from dropping her bf at the station - good timing
5) back for Leicester game - very exciting - tried a zero alcohol guiness - not too bad but wouldn't be able to drink a second so that's a saving 🤣 DrM followed the match in Canada - we are agreed our nerves are shot!

For yesterday,
A very merry Beltane day, despite it being a BH I was awake very early and joined Capt S on the first dog walk of the day. Everything is so green and lush.
A baby robin being fed by a parent in the apple tree, with all the feeders hanging from its branches and a nearby hedge for cover it really is the hub of our garden.
Made a loaf and sausage rolls for lunch.
At the stables, they had obviously had a lot more rain than us and Missy clearly enjoyed rolling in the mud so that was my first job, she was a very happy horse today and I got lots of nose touching in thanks.
Tea was a bit of a freezer / larder use up meal with various odds & ends in a pasta bake, plenty for leftovers as well.9
