On R4 right now, an investigation. Hearing truly horrific rip-off stories - 10s of £thousands, about purported lifestyle Lighthouse coaching - of desperate people, already fragile and beyond......

But also, DD heard yesterday's 'Lark Ascending' on R3 and all your Quebec and Toronto scene-setting brings author Louise Penny's wonderful Armand Gamache to mind, for several of us here:-)

1. 18 April is a four times heavily laden date for &, with 19 April as a postscript. And so it was and is. Osp is leaving it here and had College Salon debadgering appt as a bonus.
2. Magpies are &'s Aotearoa provincial bird, intelligent and handsome, often bold. & uses cast feathers for bookmarks.
Another late-ish yesterday, up on Gog Magogs, and lengthy close watching as he intricately problem-solved for food and nest sticks.
3. NZ biz now escalated to someone with clout and a proper opening settlement offer, after 10 months of shameful, shabby nonsense.....and this, after 35 years of &'s dues. Our family had been with this Friendly Society since its inception, for over 100 years. Since it became a Credit Union.....no longer and never again.
4. Npd today and tomorrow. Hooray!
5. Early CS support visit for X and Y yesterday and crossed paths with another former colleague, there for same reason. Mutually appalled at what it has become. Nothing to do with meeting need or founding principles now. Original people/trustees have left or been removed.

Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Bigger son cycled here first thing (10 miles) and we had an omelette.
3) I worked processing postal votes from 9.50 - 3pm. The people were nice but it is surprisingly tiring.
4) Went to M and S to have a pot of tea and do some Arabic.
5) BSD continues without incident.
A quiet day today with more postal vote work tomorrow.7 -
Hello.
A lovely day here and still at 7.30pm we have glorious blue sky and sunshine.
DFV - a big hug from me too, and for mhagster.
Finding it hard to find pleasures today, I'm feeling very downtrodden and a bit hacked off but, sadly, I don't get cross - even if that would be justified - just sad. I like to think that I am a kind, generous sort of person and sometimes, just sometimes, that leads to people taking the proverbial and that has happened twice today and has left me a bit bruised and battered - in an emotional sense. The mark has been well and truly overstepped and the worst is, not by people I'm that close to as I know they would never, ever take advantage of me. But advantage has been taken and has left me sad and disappointed. Hey ho, it will pass and I'd rather be me being as I am than them being them as they are. Did that even make sense?! As my beloved grandad would have said 'Toughen up, lass'.
Anyway, enough, let's look for some pleasures, albeit tinged with the above.
1) Lots of lovely puffy pink blossom against the brilliant blue sky, nature is a wonderful thing and bigger than me and my woes, thank goodness.
2) Trip to the garden centre resulted in some lovely big, fat pansies for putting into tubs and two lots of lettuce seedlings that will be hardened off gradually and provide salad pickings through the summer.
3) Hubby has been sorting and taking aluminium, metal, lead etc from the demilition work to the scrapyard and is doing a roaring trade. Good, this will offset some of the expenditure.
4) Plans have been made for a trip away with my brothers and their wives in June to celebrate hubby's birthday. Mum and dad would be so thrilled that we are all keeping the family things going and enjoying each others' company. Nice too that hubby, who does so much for everyone else, will have a well deserved fuss made of him!
5) Little fella has just come in to tell me about the Government mobile phone alert thing on Sunday because he didn't want me to be frightened when it happened. They were told all about it in assembly today so he wanted to come and tell me and also wanted to know who is the Government and what does he do. Indeed...
Sorry to be so mardy on the Pleasures thread but I knew you guys would undertand and let me blather on for a bit.
Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Hello.Had a productive day ( which is way better than a no energy day last week)
Up early.
Fixed my washing line , all by myself and a screwdriver! Washing out . Was a bright day but very windy and not as warm but still nice.Hoovered, washed floors, cleaned loos. Inadvertently tided cupboard under my bathroom sink! It wasn’t planned but the wee shelf ‘bit’ ( that sticks out of side and shelf sits on whatever that may be called!) had previously fallen out so when I moved a basket the weight meant it went whoops and stuff was everywhere! Anyway it’s had a wash and a tidy! Not that it was particularly untidy but it’s tidier! I do not need to replenish anything anytime soon 😆
Moved some more plants around.Cut grass.Power washed patio. It had a big clean weeks ago but since then the eaves and gutters were cleaned so there were splatters then it’s been traipsed on by fencers. Anyway it’s looking way better now and the sun and the very windy wind dried it all nicely.Garden looking so much better.Had crackers and cheese at lunch ( and I may have found some malteaster bunnies friend had brought for Tuesday tea weeks ago.
And pie from the freezer with leftover potatoes from last night and cauliflower, sprouts ( real food ) and peas for my my tea for one! With the smidgiest smidge of peach crumble that was leftover from last night! I’m sure I did this the last time…wondered why I’d left such a teeny bit! But it was nice. And calls from DD2 at different times through the day. She often calls on her lunch break or on her walk to and from work.8 -
For yesterday,
A pair of yellow hammers under the apple tree pecking at the seed dropped from feeders, haven’t seen any in the garden for a couple of years.
Bit of sloggus domesticus and small dog’s bedding washed & dried on line.
Over to the yard, decided my girlie could have the day off after working so hard on the previous one, she stood in the sunshine whilst I groomed and pampered, the white hair was swirling around like a snowstorm.
Walking in the garden gate and Capt S had cut the grass, oooh the lovely smell.
Mid-week mini roast of stuffed chicken thighs with roasties & veg, last of the choc fudge cake for afters.7 -
Hello. Another busy day.
Up early.Met niece and great nephew at garden centre.
Went to big supermarket on way back for caffeine free cans and carrots 🥕
Had a quick mooch round charity shop but didn’t see anything nor do I really need anything.
Was heading for petrol when I passed the carpet shop ( and a local company rather than a chain) so nipped in chose carpet, chap came up to measure, paid over the phone and I’ve less than 2 weeks to lift carpet/ boards and paint skirtings! Will be worth it in 2 weeks from now!Got petrol, saved 7p /l then going to my local one.
Home and hello doggy.Moved more things in the garden. I think I’m now sorted.Read book and finished it. On the garden sofa. May have snoozed.
Picked up DD2 and we went to beach and met all the niecelys there.Had an ice cream on the way home.My solar lights came on and looked all pretty.A good day6 -
Today
1) sunshine
2) lots of washing done and dried
3) people on olio taking my unwanted items from me, saving me a trip to the charity shops. And the turned up when they said as well - always a bonus
4) supermarket delivery - and I got more eggs than I ordered, hurrah (shame the pack of ham delivered was 4 days past the use by date tho!)
5) managed to get quite a bit of my list done at work today too, so a productive day all round.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?7 -
Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) BSD continues so some quite tasty food today.
3) More postal vote counting today. About 5 hours again.
4) To M and S cafe to do some Arabic.
5) Posted my and smaller son's own postal votes and some paperwork to the house solicitor.
6) Went to the cinema where I was a projectionist. It was the National Theatre showing Good (with David Tennant). Couldn't get in to the first act and was also twitchy about turning the lights up at the right time for the interval. The second half was much better but pretty dark.8 -
For yesterday,
Errands and chores done in the morning, needed some engine oil so popped into H*lfords, only asked where it was in the store but had 20 questions asked instead including did I want them to put it in my car for a small charge of £5, think my arched eyebrow spoke volumes about how I felt re that request!
Oil popped in car ☺️ and good chat with the old boy who looks after the grounds around the big house, he lost his wife a while back and think he may be lonely, happy to chat.
Afternoon spent with my equine pal, bit of lunge work and then a warm, lavender wash down afterwards, for her not me!
Baked pasta for tea.
Tired in the evening and Capt S had to wake me up to go to bed, asleep by 9.30.7 -
Hello. It’s been a quite kind of day.Woke early but dozed off again after being out with doggy.
Bright but a very cool wind.Went as far as supermarket. Dropped in a couple of books and some plastic bags.Met neighbour/friend on way out so stood chatting for a wee bit.Hung out washing. Certainly a day for drying with that wind!Tried sitting out to read and ended up sitting in to read.DD2 popped in very briefly, we were dropping off more boxes to a friend who’s moving…with a swap of coat hangers but I’ve just realised I’ve left them in her car! I’ll get them tomorrow.8
