Friday pleasures,
Bad sinus pain plagued me all day so pleasure of eucalyptus oil and painkillers.
Used horse clippers to de-frizz small dog and she looks like a spaniel again rather than a small moving rug.
Gave up on trying to achieve much else and watched back to back episodes of Monty Dons paradise gardens.
HM salmon fish cakes, put in what I thought was just enough chilli and it ended up clearing my sinuses like nothing else!
Watched and enjoyed Mastermind then switched tv off and had a couple of games of Yahtzee.0 -
So sorry to hear your bad news, Skint.
I can't remember any pleasures for yesterday as they were overshadowed by the events of the evening.
First off, bigger son completely lost his temper with me after I laid the law down about various naughtinesses. This involved threatening to throw a pan of boiling water at me (I was making tea at the time), hitting the wall with some damp washing (!) then ripping the kitchen door off its hinges. Smaller son was shouting in fright throughout all this. Bigger son has not been seen since though he did stay long enough to rant and rave for another hour and put the door back on its hinges.
My brother came round (unconnected with the above as he was coming anyway) and he was playing on the playstation with smaller son - bigger son long gone. We heard a whoosh and a crash and looked around and could only think it was the tumble dryer moving and perhaps hitting the wall. After several minutes my mum phoned to say her guests had arrived and had passed an accident outside my house.
We live 50m from a dangerous crossroad - our house is the 4th of a row of 6 tiny cottages. We opened the curtains and saw 2 fire engines with their disaster lighting already rigged up. Ambulances soon after but no police for ages. Chaos with traffic lining up on all 4 roads that would meet on the crossroads. We opened the window and one neighbour was standing (pitch dark in the village) waving a hi vis vest to stop more cars crashing. Another neighbour sat with the wife from the car that had ended up outside our house while the husband died, still trapped in the car. So then I talked to my neighbour (and also uphill neighbour) through the window while it took the fire brigade over an hour to get the poor man from his car.
We then shut the curtains and decided we wouldn't look out again as a third fire engines and loads of police appeared. But occasionally we couldn't help it (large vehicles pulling up outside, strange noises etc). At one point smaller son and I saw some man sitting devastated on the back step of the ambulance. He stood up and people hugged him and then we saw he was a paramedic.
My brother had to walk through in the end (3 hours after) to go home and bigger son was stopped by the police on his bike as he went from his job to wherever he stayed last night but they let him through carefully.
I heard the crashed cars get towed away at about 2am but I'm a bit reluctant to go out to feed the hens and see for myself. I know the end house has been damaged (not fixed yet from the last crash where a car got embedded in it, in about July).0 -
Oh Frith, how awful.....
I am on my ownsome for most of the day as OH has gone to organise a seminar and DD is at work. We have guests for dinner tonight - even though we are in chaos, but as we were all available for once (and it is our turn) we've warned them but told them to come anyway. I have already made lasagne and two puds...
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Yoga - I touched my toes... :j I am very flexible in the hip joints but have dreadfully tight hamstrings so this is a major achievement.
2. Picked up a parcel from the PO depot. It was two identical pairs of trousers but in different sizes. the smaller size fits me :T
3. Spent many happy hours cooking - the lasagne base, one pud and chick pea and kale stew for tea
4. OH got a surprise bonus from work
5. Washing mostly dried in the sunshine
Have a nice day all, especially PK and Skint even though I really do know how tough these days are...I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Frith What an evening.
Recent Pleasures.
1. DD has been on a trek to Machupiccu. The photos have been amazing, but she had food poisoning and is running short of money. Resting for a couple of days in Cusco she looked better when she FaceTimed.
2. DS2 parents eve was disappointing. He was warned that he was behind with his assignments. He has risen to the challenge, and everything now given in. He is allowed to go on residential next week.
3. DD has a mini ski season job when she returns from Peru. :j
4. Had vouchers for 50% off food in Ed’s Diner and a free birthday milkshake, so DH and I had dinner at Ed’s last night. Nice end to the week. And probably cheaper than McDonalds. :rotfl:
5. Car hunting today as DH car has been written off. (2 dented panels ?). Found What he wanted in stoke
Have a lovely evening.:)0 -

Pleasures for Saturday:
1. DH paid milkman for 6 weeks worth of milk. More expensive than sm but we only have 1 four pint carton Monday, Wednesday & Friday. We top up with sm milk BUT it is nice to know that if for some reason we weren’t able to go out we could leave a note for the milkman! How very OS:rotfl:
2. Only getting slightly wet and cold when motor biking across London:o
3. Arriving on time at uncle’s - we are usually late:embarasse
4. Only one person missing from family - 2nd cousin @ uni in Liverpool.
5. Lots of laughter, chatting, political debate, decluttering talk, reminiscing about family who are no longer with us and fussing over the new baby then
6. Proper hm meat lasagne (Italian heritage), hm pesto lasagne made by cousin, peperonati made by uncle, olive bread, my Focaccia (brave of me!) and another side salad. Plenty of red wine or prosecco.
7. Hm desserts - a cheesecake and a latticed jam tart (biscuity pastry & damson jam) made by 77 year old uncle & just as good as his late wife’s version (she was born & bred in Italy & came to London as a young bride) - I appropriated a piece for Ron.
8. A dry ride home! Eight hours out of the house & the invite was for lunch:rotfl:
9. Ron’s piece of tart didn’t last - I was intending to have it for breakfast!
A day for the ‘memory bank’!:):):j

SYA Your experience seems so familiar even though DM has been gone nearly 3 years now. We were on a cruise, and were advised not to cut it short.........I need to return to Rome, as we wandered around in a daze and I don’t remember a lot. Glad you found some pleasures.
Yesterday.
1. Did swipe and win at Sainsbury’s and won 200 points and 500 points, by splitting my shopping into 2 lots of £10.
2. Preparation for meal was easy. Chilli in slow cooker and veggie chilli on stove. Then lots of chopping for the fixings.
3. People for dinner. Sat in living room with food on the coffee table and candles and fire on. Everyone helped themselves to bowls of chilli. Lots of chatter.
4. DD sent us a photo of a rug and mask she has bought for us, then asked us to transfer her some money. :rotfl:
5. It was nearly 11pm by the time peeps headed home. Time went really quickly. Got the dishwasher filled before bed. :j
Hope everyone has a lovely day.0 -
Glad eldest has made a reappearance Frith
Saturday pleasures,
A lie-in followed by boiled egg and soldiers.
Over to stables to await hay delivery, my friends fianc! so had a chat about people we know, lovely hay and not at all dusty, my side of the barn is now full so horse owner equivalent of a stocked larder.
Hungry again so cheesy crumpets for lunch.
Popped out to emporium and picked up new book. The Witch Finders Sister. All about Matthew Hopkins who records show visited our family village at one point (Dad always joked I would have been first in line due to beliefs) should be interesting read.
Daffodils and tulips in the house.0
