Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Slow to get to sleep but not too bad after that.
2) House remains clean and tidy after house viewing!
3) Went to M and S for a pot of tea and an hour of Arabic. Duolingo has done its thing of suddenly introducing about 40 new words over 2 days...
4) Went to English lesson. We did numbers and times today. By chance, I had 2 Arabic speakers in my group so I could just about understand what they discussed with each other when we did seasons and times of the day!
5) Saw bigger son driving back to his house (still sounds weird) so I gave him a cheery wave.
6) Cheating tea from Sainsburys warmed up.9 -
A bad sleep as I was a bit worried for today, then at 4am the power went off and didn’t come back on until 6.30, when we were up any rate, it’s amazing how everything going silent can wake you up.
1 Up early to feed Nestle prior to his op, dropped him into the vet by 9am.
2 Stress tidied the rest of the greenhouse to try and take my mind off the big op.
3 Cleaned Nestles cage out, and fresh bedding for us also.
4 All fine, he has deformities in his jaw and teeth, bless so he will be back. He’s home and bemused.
5 We went to order in really looking forward to a Chinese, but it was closed so I downgraded much to DH’s delight to pizza.

1) what weather - mum gave me a lift after my 9am online meeting so arriving dry was definitely an mse pleasure
2) lunch was very simple - couscous, sardines in tomato sauce and frozen veg with a few chilli flakes - delicious
3) ops manager has found me some bookends so i can unpack my books hooray
4) wine and nibbles with students and ex colleagues after work
5) lift home from colleague (she didn't have wine!) and dd2 just home from Netherlands (Eurostar cancelled on Friday so she had to wait till the next one they could get her and her bf on - Sunday - then back to Dundee today - train 79 minutes late so she'll get that refunded - she's pointing out it only needed to be 60 mins late so overachieved 🤣)MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hello everyone.
A nice, sunny day here after very heavy snow at the end of last week, our snowmen have finally melted away.
Lainey - your trip sounds wonderful, I spent several years in London after college before moving back 'up North' and it still feels like coming home when we get off the train at King's Cross. We saw The Mousetrap a few years ago with my mum and dad, brother and sister-in-law when it was on tour in Bristol, actually four years ago as it was part of hubby's 60th birthday celebrations. A real treat.
Some recent pleasures:
1) Several of us have gone down with a dastardly tummy bug. Middle grandson has been off school since last Wednesday, son and I started with it yesterday. Not much pleasure in there but I suppose it makes you feel grateful for being well and healthy normally.
2) The whole place is completely upside down, the dust and grit is awesome! Yet more steel arrived today; the whole back wall of the house is now secured and the steels bolted and welded together so the house is no longer being held up on acrow props. This is a big relief more than a pleasure but there is still a lot more to go in and more walls still to come down. Have also now decided to remove the orangery-style glass roof from what was the garden room and replace it with a slate roof and long velux windows - this will be warmer in winter and cooler in summer so a good move before any sort of kitchen goes in as the whole roof will have to come off. And it makes sense at the same time to take out the windows and sets of french doors and get the bi-folds in along the whole wall. And it also makes sense while large sections of the floor are up to get the underfloor heating in the whole of the downstairs - another huge job. Oh my! What was going to be done in manageable chunks is now going to be done all at once. The pleasure will be getting it done but pleasure 1) makes it feel an uphill struggle at the mo.
3) Hubby - yet again - came up trumps organising school runs, packed lunches, shopping, tea, dust control, tip run, football practice for big grandson, running up and down with supplies for middle grandson in bed and little fella to a birthday party. He is definitely a keeper!
4) We have cobbled together a sort of kitchen in the front lounge so they can at least make a drink and do food prep. Can't move the oven or the big fridge/freezer or dishwasher but at least the crockery and food is relatively dust-free. One-room living for the six of them for the forseeable future. That's the room we lived, ate and slept in right through lockdown as our part of the house was being built but there were only two of us. The very selfish pleasure is that my 'bit' is finished, eventhough the gritty dust is everywhere and a load of their stuff is piled up in here to keep it 'clean'.
5) The builder will make the base for my summerhouse as he can use all the rubble and concrete that is coming ourt of the house for hardcore. This will save some room in the skips and also save my menfolk a tricky job as it's a sloping site from front to back and from side to side so needs a fair bit of work. They will also lay my patio and path so our section of the garden will start to take shape by the summer.
Right, off to bed in the hope of a bit better night tonight.
Goodnight all.10 -
Hope you are all feeling better soon Highdays
For yesterday,
Waking up and knowing that night I will once again be sleeping in my own bed, hotel one wasn’t particularly uncomfortable but we’re not used to duvets - sheets & blankets at home - and I was either too hot or too cold.
Tube and train home were quiet so easy to get seats.
Picked up small dog from pal who had been dog sitting, good to have those cuddles again. Capt S helped to start friend’s clearance of loft by removing several boxes and taking photos of what’s up there.
Home, settling in and then a sneaky nap due to #1
Out again, this time with brother to see a play at Cambridge Arts, dramatisation of Shawshank Redemption which was very well done if a hard watch at times. Finally got into my bed at 11pm and oh how comfy!10 -
Art'noon all.
Glad you had such a lovely weekend, Lainey

3. Good walk to and from cinema with DS
4. We watched 'Creed III' - i love a Rocky film though this wasn't as funny as a 'proper' Rocky film can be. A good watch though
5.Home, fire lit, easy tea and watched ' The Dog House'.
Have a good afternoon all.I wanna be in the room where it happens9 -

Went as far as supermarket. Picked up a few books from charity shelf. Started reading one of them.
Met friend in carpark and had a quick chat.
Friend came for tea. Made macaroni with garlic bread and peas. Then had fruit for pudding…the rest had meringue nests with theirs. So much laughter tonight. We’ve been doubled up belly laughing. It was an absolute hoot!10 -

For yesterday,
Another one with the complete set weather wise, off to horsey town first thing and in heavy rain for a food shop, didn’t envy the stable lads riding out in the wet.
At least my daffodils are out in the back garden and shining bright through the gloom.
Lunch then over to the stables, sloshed through the mud to get my girlie in, by this time the sun had come out so she dozed in the warmth while I set to, grooming 4 days worth of mud off her.
Then the sky clouded over, it dropped 5 degrees and started snowing, bbrr. Luckily it had stopped by the time our farrier turned up and she stood still while he trimmed & filed her feet. Then we had hail!
Easy tea, mushroom & chorizo frittata with veg, made a big one so enough leftover for lunches.
Caught up with Unforgotten and then an early night, reading in bed.
