Good morning! Currently-6o (oh remember when I used to write things like currently 35o) but a beautiful star filled sky.Yesterday.
A bit of an in and out morning which of course meant scraping the blooming car again!Had vets first thing and off he was trotted ( he loves the vets) to go and get bloods done so I just sat in the car) then he ran out when he saw me, the poor vet in his wake! Home. Then out again about an hour later to pick up and drop off my friend’s dad…by this time it was foggy. However I now know where the fog lights are on my very basic car model ( previous cars have been more obvious) nice chatter with him as we drove slowly and carefully.Popped in to supermarket. Got a couple of books from the charity shelf. And home again which is where I stayed. Watched a few things on catch up ( and much sped up…like strictly, I don’t want to listen to the chatter just see the dancing and the scores😆)
Had a snoozette…gosh it’s been a while!Phone call from vets to say all was well with bloods and then an email from the eco-log manufacturer to say that they will be changing there future packaging to include a warning. And I seem to have slept reasonably well.9 -
& am more than happy to help with procurement of provisions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Hoorah for a healthy Haggis
For yesterday,
Cold, cold with a stunning hoar frost. Quick trip down to GC in village to get tree, we only have a small one on the hearth but even by our standards this one will be overloaded with decs.
Trip into Fenny land to see SIL, just past cathedral city when fog came down which made it more interesting.
Saw both nieces as well then a quick pub lunch before heading home.
Two herons and three buzzards spotted sitting in flat fen fields, easier against the white.
Mackerel pie with roasted veg for tea, watched the footie and marvelled at Messi.7 -
1. Listening to Guy Stagg's 'The Crossway' being well read by one Jonathan Bailey on R4X. Have had the book since publication and Bailey's voice doesn't over-impose or detract.
2. Happycas - ooh! re: those Louise Penny's. & will have to find a way of seeing those. Linking to osp 1, our off the page Gamache/Reine-Marie/other characters' images are already fully-formed. The actors must be 'right' or it won't work.
3. Last night's mid-evening hwb refill kept & warm all night. Re-done a bit before 6 bells today with early brekkie. All toasty again.
4. Aotearoa summer well underway apparently, after much unseasonable rain has apparently really boosted &'s family's various lifestyle land blocks, livestock, crops and gardens. PM Jacinda has had an unsuspected microphone moment, which has endeared her even more to most. It's even made the Graun!😁
5. About to finish a really poorly-written, syrupy CS book, whose hook was the title - 'The Woman Who Kept Everything'.......😙😚☺️😉

Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) The house is reasonably warm, or feels OK, even at 15 degrees. The poor air source heat pump occasionally runs a defrost cycle. It hasn't been above freezing here for a few days (we are very high up) so it has to thaw itself out!
3) Got a few jobs done this morning then went out to try and tackle some more Christmas shopping. A few bits bought. Found a calendar for my friend that I bought months ago. Had a pot of tea in M and S. Learned some more Arabic. Took the library books back.
4) Wrapped the presents bought so far and it is not looking too bad. A few more to buy then I will make lemon curd nearer the day.
5) Bigger son has been and gone. He is missing his girlfriend (as they had lived together at work then during their van travels). They want Christmas presents that will be useful in their new house (that they are going to get when possible!) I asked if his girlfriend minds getting kitchen things.
6) Watched France v Morocco.
7) In bed with 2 hwb and will watch 24 Hours in Police Custody at 10.8 -

Frith said:DD - did you know 3 of June Brown's children were filmed in the "congregation" ?
1) feeling much better though worked at home again
2) DrM sent me a message about hearing i'd been ill, hoped i was feeling better and he'd be at mennies for the game at 7
3) did a very good presentation (if i say so myself) for my team re where i think we should go next - i've asked them for comments by 11th Jan
4) OK so i went to mennies for the match - a very fun evening, great game
5) walked home with DrM - very cold but wore stout shoes - he said he couldn't wait to get into his bed - i said me too - he is totally oblivious, frith i am a hopeless cause! made me laugh inside though 🤣 and now in my bed with the archers and a cuppa which is less complicated than a relationship at my age 😋MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Morning. From the land of the absolutely frozen! But a beautiful star filled sky this morning.
Yesterday was a lovely day but I just went to bed really early.Had a lovely chat with DD1 for about 75 minutes. She makes me laugh. Then had to go and scrape the car again! Sigh! It’s such a small engine that it takes an age to demist. Anyway lovely hour spent at the hairdressers, again more chatter and laughter. Then quick dash into supermarket to get some flowers and then home to sort them out into pretty posies and wrapped them in brown paper tied with some Christmas ribbon. Then dash into town, with the sun low but bright as you turn onto different streets and can’t see a thing! Waaah! ( and that was with sunglasses on) anyway got parked and went and met my old work colleagues for lunch. We had the loveliest of food and excellent service. I had pate to start which was lovely, then a chicken with a kind of Thai slant to it ( but can I please have less chilli…oooft any stronger and I’d have struggled to eat it) and then had a pudding, oh my goodness the nicest cheesecake I’ve ever had! It was delicious and so smooth and just yummy! But most of all we just had the loveliest of afternoons, catching up, laughing, listening, a wee tear in all our eyes at some points. We had crackers to pull, and cards and gifts to share ( I gave flowers)
Then a walk back with one of them to pick up our cars and the wintery sky I like so much at 4pm and an alright drive home as it wasn’t quite dark. And hello doggy. I’m home. That’s me in for the night. And I pottered about for a while and then thought I’m just going up to bed!8 -
It's been a while since I posted.
Various things happened which made finding pleasures more difficult but am ready to post again.
For this week so far
1. Day off on Monday so appreciated the beauty of the snow, about 5 inches here, without having to drive in it.
DH and some neighbours helped clear the road. Lots of talking and laughing.
2. Trip to Norfolk on Tuesday for DH's Aunt's funeral. Service was lovely.
It was cold both in the church and for the burial but virtually no snow there.
Pleased we were able to make it as it was appreciated by his cousins.
3. DS2 girlfriend working from here so a bed could be delivered here. The company only delivers on Wednesday. She had offered to help us out. The bed is very comfy and looks good in newly decorated spare room which DS2 and girlfriend will be sleeping in over Christmas.
4. House decorated for Christmas. I love it with all the lights and lighting candles in an evening.
5. The wool blankets/ throws on the sofa which are keeping me warm in an evening.
Big news is about a month ago DS1 proposed to his girlfriend so there will be a wedding soon. Nothing planned other than her Dad a retired vicar would like to marry them.

Nice to ‘see’ you VL and that’s lovely news about your son.9

Hey VL 👋🏻 lovely family news.
For yesterday,
Busy morning, phone calls made, baked a loaf and tidied the house ahead of visitors.
Into Uni city for haircut, usual car park was closed due to snow & ice so quick u-turn and managed to get parked in multi-storey.
Good chat with lovely hairdresser and a read of my book, even kept my high spirits as I waded through the awful traffic, how I did the journey every day amazes me.
Home and changed in time for friends to arrive, lovely catch up with lovely people, rather than a big meal I did a tapas style meal with lots of picky bits inc a baked Camembert.
Waved goodbye just before 11 and the stars were bright but so so cold.8
