Welcome back mhags - have enjoyed your adventures
DD - you've done so well. I joined MSE in 2009 just after my mum died. Not sure when i joined this thread but pretty soon after i think (though i recall lurking for a while).
Pleasures so far this week
1. a good walk with OH - up the line by steam train and a walk back along the river (broadwater, Frith)
2. Survived teaching a brand new to me subject. Went well, I think
3. Had to do a 3 am drive to the airport for OH and DS, they're in Germany.
4. watched Karen Pirie, enjoyed it
5. had a soak in the bath as i couldn't get back to sleep after the airport run
6. met a fellow MSE- er for lunch. was lovely
7. went with DD to see The Lost King - such a lovely, gentle film. Long had a 'thing' for RIchard III myself.
8, then we went for a curry - they had a tuesday special of starter, main and rice for £11.95
9. met another friend for lunch yesterday, nice soup and chat
10. DD came to pick up DS's TV monitor last night so she had a bath and dinner while she was there.
Now in ICT for the weekend. Have a good evening all
I wanna be in the room where it happens8 -
Shambles back in - I need to post this now as weekend will be Jamboree on the Internet (& Airwaves) & therefore computer time will be finite & shared.DundeeDoll - Professor! Congratulations & well done on all the hard work it's taken to get there. At weork & at home. Enjoy Saudi! Knowing front door locks now, phew!PaulieHerts - oh that light. You swam in that sea?! Awed respects!topsyturphy - hurrah DM & MOT passes. Chicken cooked in advance so Proper Food whilst working nights - atta gal!Happycas - hurrah for jabs - mine lined up for before All Souls. Your new boots will be eyeing the other shoes bewildered - glad for sparkly laces as well as reliable traction! Have you considered a patio apple? Proper tree, proper fruit, just on a dwarfing rootstock so doesn't require a ladder... Littles go with LED lanterns - candles for the softer light that takes a decade off (but leaves me squinting to read!)villagelife - coffee in the garden is a two for one! Very right to agree on a wallpaper & then stop. By all means appeal against planning, but also collect teeth. It only takes 3 teeth to halt a construction & require a forensic check & possible archaeological dig. It's a delaying tactic while you source some rare plant species... Hoping hm lunch eased the pain of colleagues who don't help.LaineyT - hurrah a nice farrier. I'm all for steady pleasures - I even like the routine of school (now they've all left, I miss it!) I find Strictly a bit overwhelming so watch named dances on YouTube. With you on Only Connect! Karen Pirie, eh? Added to my "give at least an hour to" list. Mini nibbled by mice - how to make access trickier but still relatively easy to park on... Will add M&S to shopping list for butter as £3+ a lump is crazy (& foodhall just along from frozen shop) The right book sees you safe through the waiting rooms etc.mhagster - Christmas shopping all done before breakfast! Only you...! Volunteering on holiday, so DD gets bottle & son gets muffin. Just a bit, a bit! Cathedral then check in - space to stretch is surely worth beans on toast for a week or two! Having dog walking sessions 'banked' sounds useful. Welcome Home!Highdays - Monday Tea sounds gorgeous. Go careful with the Inner Housewife. A pumpkin with youngest grandson's name on - what a treat! May the burial of the ashes be a time of peaceful, loving farewell. Even if only for a few minutes, families being the people who know exactly how to stomp on your corns.ampersand - had to look up galanthophiles - floreat! Some person of unmarried parentage walloped the Meriva anonymously? Cathartic scream'n'shout deeply needed. Emporium spatchcocked poussin, wow! Dangerous Women - chere &, you do not need instruction! Certain the stationery (vigorous Not Coveting here) will be put to excellent & appropriate use.VJsmum - glad breast screening went well - those 4 photos save lives. Much smitten with menfolk wraparound care! You have "initial 'i can't do it' panic" too? Forgive me, but what a relief. Shipped the chaps to Germany?! I read the Daughter of Time at an impressionable age & decades later remain stubbornly loyal to a remarkably competent monarch, betrayed on the field & then by history..Frith - wow yes pursue the debt... Cinema does plays as well? Excellent! Your vocab includes Welding? Awed all over again. Best of luck with exhaust. Splendid reason to vote in NT thing & hurrah screening Aida.Admiral - lashed to new starters training, curses indeed. Cake & pud Made Already? Awed!OS pleasures recentlyThe all-time-champion solid-gold medal-the-size-of-a-dustbin-lid goes to Youngest for hanging curtains Despite Spiders.Chase bank being stunningly open about what bits are working & what bits not - love to see techies relatively unmuzzled by PR!Darn you Amazon! I saw an advert for “Men's Fully Adjustable" clicked through out of filthy-minded curiosity (sorry, Admiral!) & it was a Men's Fully Adjustable Stretch 4cm Hook and Loop Belt. Well, dash. Still, a little light cardio & a healthy workout for the imagination…Family tree climbing going well, as in loads more relatives in the 1700s. Satisfying to meet new names, although we delight in a colleague called Godsman. His mother must have been very specific in her negotiations in labour.“I’m holding a sharp pair of trousers” & too drowsy to get the words right let alone tease the youngling.Scouts contemplating cooking spaghetti bolognese. The BBC simple recipe isn’t as simple as we’d like!Aw “closing the pod bay doors” as he sets off shopping… just who is on what side left beautifully ambiguous!Ow. Dad’s Will predates death of husband & son. You really can see the wave coming but you can’t run. Pleasure is it’ll all be sorted, but oof…Sat in an armchair, youngest observed I looked like Emperor Palpatine (a bad guy) - I blame the very upright armchair! (Intrigued, the chair fits me really comfortably.)Having rattled the house with Kate Bush for over 2 hours loud, sis proposes to “close down like a little flower” - the pleasure is in not cheering, swearing or upsetting the new status quo of calm.Ye gods, lady mother asked “what is Eminem?” & I read the Wikipedia entry & then had to explain rap. I suspect I did not do it justice, but as it’s largely undocumented I think “a form of live poetry popular in America” will do. Pleasure in her face, smiling thoughtfully! And now “podcast” - not exclusively audio (a surprise but then I’ve not ventured into the realm) & originally a portmanteau of iPod & broadcast! Rather more thoughtful but pleased at me looking up an answer.Argh, bossy sister is telling mum how to cook chicken thighs (having unilaterally decided not to buy her the whole chicken she asked for). Me hiding in another room, snarling at this high-handedness. Pleasure in being clear I am not part of this.I am a Go Outdoors member & so took sis shopping for a winter coat - she was delighted & touchingly pleased!Helped mum sort out her pasta stash - 8 open bags went home with lactose intolerant vegan, leaving mum with one open packet & 7 still sealed. Online shopping is not always your friend....Sis, handed a Stanley knife analogue, complained “I can’t do two things at once!” whilst rebooking her covid jab & eating a magnum ice-cream…
Popped into Ashmolean & crooned at formidable coin display & one particular coin "Silver rupee in the name of the Mughal emperor struck by the British Army in Delhi in Islamic 1219 (1806/07), The coin has wreaths of thistles, roses, and holly. It was struck to celebrate Christmas as the Indian capital came under British control that year" - you just can't stop a squaddie...Home at last & youngest (after vigorous exchange of texts with brother) has a short shopping list that should mean I don’t have to shop tomorrow! As after 4 hours driving, I am more than ready to Just Not for a couple of days.Ye gods. Chortling at marketing for “waterproof jewellery”! Showing perfectly ordinary gemset rings etc - not sure if this is a raving wind-up or marketing genius as you peer thinking "but isn’t that?…"My scouts cooked! Chopped veggies, fried mince, added veggies & oxo & garlic & some plum tomato (mashed with a spoon!) & then boiled water for spaghetti! The competent vegetarian enjoyed plain spaghetti bless her & the three lads, intrigued, were rightly pleased theirs tasted great (and another lot had over salted the Spag & were complaining, to limited sympathy - they chose to add All that salt.) Leaders de-rigged Trangias as Gas is now precious... I called cadence & crooned to my patrol who held the door as I staggered in laden, & who washed up & dried thoroughly as I passed requests for bits of Trangia cook set! Such a happy night - and some had never chopped or cooked before.Heard swingle singers making a beautiful job of John Martyn's I couldn't love you more. Definitely a need a clean hankie job.
Leave booked so I can get down to see mum most fortnights til Christmas, including a guest appearance by Middleson in December which we hadn't dared hope for what with Royal Mail terms & conditions.Health, strength, love, & courage to all as have need, may all technology pass tests, batteries hold charge & the promised powercuts be met with considered fortitude.8 -
welcome back mhags doggy welcomes are the best
1) did actually manage to get to bed early and get some sleep before my 2:30am alarm call and ready for the driver at 3am
2) very smooth journey, even got an hour in the lounge at Paris
3) did some work and watched The Duke (lovely) and King Richard (inspiring) and got half way through Elvis (suprised at how much i enjoyed it)
4) no show from whoever was supposed to be picking me up at Riyadh. Waited a whole hour while we (me and my lovely professional services bod back home) tried to raise someone. In the end I got a taxi - driver was delightful - i have to say i do prefer when possible to travel under my own
5) hotel is gorgeous, had a toastie for supper and now in bed with the Archers

1 We have been away, and it’s lovely to be back.
2 We saw a badger, owls, storks, osprey, chaffinch, bullfinch, goldcrests, bats numerous, make unknown and heard every night the calls of the curlews.
3 Had fabulous food, and a lot of lovely walks every day to try and counteract.
4 Sat in the garden here with the animals running who are also happy to back and making it obvious to see.
5 We just shared a really lovely takeaway
For today
1 I made a start on the mountains of washing
2 I cleared out all the food cupboards in the kitchen, checked inventoried and re put away grouped together.
3 Got all the cake making bits together, labelled and boxed up and checked if anything is needed to get a Christmas cake going. So today I have achieved an organized kitchen.
4 Leftovers from the van is the meal tonight, chicken with pots in a veg and cheesy sauce all in the oven together.
5 Nice to sleep in our own bed.

Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Canal town for the charity shops. Bought an Adele CD for 30p. Smaller son will call it "middle aged lady music". I am a middle aged lady... Also got some new gloves for £2.99 from the same shop. I have to get men's gloves for my enormous hands so look for some with cheerful designs.
3) Went to town to get a clothes rail (none left to collect in Argos). Bought milk etc from Sainsburys.
4) Sent a message to Mr E (about work) which of course I had gone into a tizzy about wording sensibly. A whole 2 sentences! Talking of starting to post here, I'm not quite sure. I think I joined in 2007. I had been with another forum as I had taken HSBC "to court" about bank charges, as was fashionable at the time. The day before I went to court and presented the paperwork, I had no replies to my queries so signed up with MSE. Anyway, I was definitely posting here about the dastardly MrN who I went out with starting in 2010. I went out with him until I popped round to his house and found he had moved his ex-wife back in. Weirdly, that is still the most horrific moment of my life. Other horrible things have happened, but nothing so unexpected or unnecessary.
5) Stopped off at my sister's on the way home as she has a cold. Didn't go in but delivered the cards she needed plus some stroopwaffles to aid recovery.
7) Washing done and nearly dried on the line. Did washing up mountain and general tidying round.
8) Had my hair cut! Back to the number 4 clippers on the back and sides. Will wash it in a minute so it settles down.
9) Made a stir fry for tea then flapjacks.
10) In bed with 2 hwb and will watch television just now.9 -
Morning! Had got as far as starting to type last night then obviously crashed out!Wide awake and probably won’t get back to sleep. Currently absolutely lashing with rain! It’s actually nice to hear as my bedroom in my hotel didn’t have a window and all I could hear was the fan/aircon. The lounge area had the most amazing view but couldn’t really hear anything and was 19 floors up! But the view was just fabulous! So yesterday was another early start after an early crashing out! It’s how it will be as I work off revercy Percy jet lag!Got a load of washing done then hung it out and fortuitously it was almost dry when I brought it in later , ironed it and hung on airers. Will not be hung out today judging by the forecast.Took my doggy a lovely walk to our favourite place. Colours of trees on the drive up the big sweeping drive were stunning. Had a roll and sliced sausage, have to sit outside with the doggy so I’m glad it was dry and sunny with a gentle warmth.Drove the slightly longer way back to give my car a bit of a run and the scenery was just the most gorgeous autumnal picture. Went to mums to check on house and had a lovely chat with NDN.Got petrol on the way back. Dropped doggy off. Then popped in to work, I’m not back officially till Sunday but needed to check the diary for an event request. Then went to supermarket. Oooft at some of the price increases.Home and pottered around. Continued bringing up the piles on the stairs. Now I have piles in my bedroom😆 Did the ironing, don’t always iron but it was dresses and linen shirts from holiday. Did my autumnal frippery. Have a few ornamental pumpkins and also had bought a pumpkin to empty and fill with flowers. Looks very pretty.Took down the sweet peas from the obelisks in the garden. They are all done for the year but were very pretty and it always amazes me that that much grows from a few seeds. Took the seed pods off for next year. There’s much to potter around in the garden and tidy but I’ll do it at my leisure and as weather allows.Made a chicken and bacon and vegetable pie. With little roast potatoes and sprouts and cabbage and carrots and broccoli. Was most delicious! Got a pack of cooking bacon for 89p so I chopped it all up and it’s in the freezer and I’ll use as and when. Enough pie left for today.Friend popped over. Last year I’d given her a candle that I’d got but I didn’t like the fragrance. So I’d said would you like it but can I please have the jar back! So I got the jar back 😆 She’s had the smell and I’ve got the pretty jar.Could feel myself starting to wilt so went to bed when she left just after 8pm.Have a lovely day.10

For past couple of days.
1. Work have finally sorted out where I work in a short green basis so it is better for my back. It may change if necessary and I have been left in no doubt how much of an inconvenient it is to arrange it. I don't care it will be better for me.
2. DS1 called round and dropped show horns off. Nice to have a chat.
3. Using up good from freezer. It needs to be sorted soon to create space.
4. Seeing leaves changing colour on drive to work. Such rich colours this year.
5. My new throws keeping me warm on the sofa in an evening.9 -
For yesterday,
Groggy first thing, medication or a late ( for me ) evening the night before? Anyway, strong Italian coffee helped and off to horsey town for a food shop.
So, a natural remedy page recommended distilled white vinegar to deter mice, several cotton pads soaked, popped in small pot and left overnight in the mini. The mice approved so much that they pooped on top of the pads!..sigh…peppermint oil next or it will have to be traps.
Over to see pony, long groom and tidied up her tail & legs. She was in a happy mood and gave out a fair amount of kisses.
Tasty tea, baked pesto gnocchi with goats cheese & green beans.Tried to watch Ambulance but kept falling asleep so bed.9 -
Morning all
Missing waking up in our beautiful cottage in Cornwall to the fishing boats going out and planning what to do and what to eat. At least I don’t have to go back to work, which I used to dread, unlike OH although he doesn’t mind so much 😊
Been swimming twice this week, which is good, as my cranky legs aren’t walking well. Been for routine blood test, why is it some leave a horrible bruise and some don’t. Sorted out and ordered flu jab prescription for next week, have to be careful because of antibiotics allergies.
Went for an amble through local Abbey town gardens with friend and nice lunch at local pub.
Sister has cancelled meet up for today as she’s not feeling well so I have no excuse to not get on with some much needed housework today and perhaps pop into town to look round the market
have a a good Friday everyone 😊
