Highdays - thinking of you and your family today
1. Work - I survived it. I was very busy as someone was ill so I covered the patients. Asked for help at one point and the other two in refused to help.
2. Took some knitted toys in to League of Friends shop which they were grateful for. Someone DH sees knits then and they are beautiful.
3. Lunch taken in and enjoyed.
4. Pleased when I arrived home - an hour late but did request the time back from work.
5. A quiet evening and lit some candles.9 -
Many thanks for your congratulations - I am still grinning. I've just had a look at the date of my joining mse - October 2008 - and today I am reflecting on some pretty big events since then (i can't remember when i stumbled on this happy forum)
1) graduated as a mature student (2011 saw me going across the stage for my PhD)
2) gone from lecturer (started 2009) to Professor (oh I mentioned that did I? 🤣)
3) supported my now ex-husband and father to our 3 children through gender transition (I think that's why I first joined, prognosis for holding onto her job didn't look too good and I was looking at how we could cut our suit if our cloth was suddenly rapidly reduced, this was the same reason I went for my first job at the medical school, which turned out to be one of the most serendipitous events to happen)
4) separated and divorced (she left me 2012 and now is remarried to a man)
5) got a new mortgage well into my 50s (though in true mse style am overpaying when I can and mum moving in with me last week will certainly help as will sharing the bills)
And you've been there along the way, through the victories, through the pain. Huge thanks to you all.
And now to prepare for Saudi tomorrow - driver picks me up 2am 😴. xxxMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hope that today goes as well as possible Highdays.
Wow, this thread has seen quite a few changes in your life DD, I’m a relative newbie having been on MSE since 2015 but my first post was on this thread as it seemed such a friendly place to start, I wasn’t wrong ☺️For yesterday,
Chores and errands in the morning, went to the pet store for a sack of small dog’s kibble and took advantage of being over that way to pop into the Mr Sparks for some of their butter, still the cheapest around.
Mild and sunny again so no jacket needed doing a bit of gardening.
Over to see my pony, took her in the school to work but she was in a funny mood, calling to other horses and very little concentration, suspect it’s seasonal as mares tend to finish towards end of October and the last ones can be strong, especially when the weather is as mild as this.
Feta and pepper quiche for tea.
Watched and enjoyed Bake off.10 -
Good afternoon. Chilly here but still dry and occasionally bright.
Highdays - thinking of you today. Hugs x
D Doll - gosh, such a lot happening in a relatively short time! Certainly ' What doesn't kill you...etc ' seems to be true for you. X
Yesterday
Collected DGC at teatime and went out for tea and then to our house.
Littlest DGD (2) cried when we left their house and then cried when we left our house to take them back home! In between she was fine. She was born during lockdown and so we rarely saw her for her first 18 months, but she's gradually getting used to us.
When we returned to our house there were 3 electricity vans in the street and a hole being dug in the pavement! One of the men came to tell us there was a fault somewhere and all electricity would be off for about 2 hours!
We took the children home as it started to get dark. Children and candles are not a good mix in my book!
The power came back on after another hour. Good practice for the winter, and we knew where the torches and candles were. But let's hope we don't need to know!
Happy chilly day everyone

Last post before Riyadh (driver now coming at 3 which seems bliss compared with 2) as colleague coming on different plane
1) finished my book (The first Alex Cross book by James Patterson, having been gifted one considerably later in the series) - goodness so many twists!
2) the 2nd hand book shop is open again at the hospital hooray - bought a Scottish thriller for the grand price of £1 (the Alex Cross was a library book)
3) after a rainy start gorgeous day - sat outside at lunch time
4) office coming on nicely and he has fixed the front door lock hooray
5) nice evening with dd2

Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Off to floody city to look round the Canaletto exhibition. I can appreciate the work involved but the interpretation was dry as dust. I learned more reading the text carved into the very old golden frames! Bought a few postcards afterwards for a school thing my sister is doing.
3) Had 2 sections of exhaust replaced plus the old bolts holding everything together. Nothing got damaged in the process (which they were worried about). £190 but it is considerably quieter now!
4) The National Trust magazine arrived. I had already read online that some "anti-woke" loons had put themselves forward for election so I read their mini manifestoes. Oh dear. Found my NT card and voted quickly for some normal people. I don't usually bother to vote at all!
5) Messages from bigger son, now in Germany.
6) Went to the cinema to project a live stream of Aida.
7) Smaller son cooked his own tea while I was out and has ordered the tickets for the football this Saturday.
8) In bed now with 2 hwb.10 -
Good morning! From jetlag on the other side!Blooming heck! It’s such a long journey from Australia! But I’m home. My doggy is right next to me as I type all curled up!It’s so quiet! I’ve been in a room with constant aircon noise for 4 weeks. Currently the house is silent. Was ready for coming back. Tears when I left ( but that’s just a me thing) but a sense of coming home yesterday.Doggy walker arrived not long after I’d got back so a chat with her. I’ve still got about 4 sessions left with her as I’d pre-paid her and there were a few days when DD2 was here and didn’t need her so I’ll ‘bank ’ the time rather than take the money back.Cases emptied. Need to do laundry but want to get DD2 stuff dried before I start mine! And oooft at the increase in gas/electricity!I had an amazing time away. Was much needed mentally and emotionally. Was just wonderful to personally catch up with friends and hug them and just chat and I was shown so much hospitality and kindness from them .Weather might have been warmer but was just glad if it was dry ! They’ve had another day of heavy rain and flooding yesterday.Good to see my children especially DD1. ( son was staying in my apartment so saw him everyday ) she makes me laugh. Which is always a good thing 😆
But I’m glad I’m back safely, house is still standing and dog is okay! DD2 has been playing house! Apparently she bought bin liners the other day!11 -
Welcome home Mhags!
For yesterday,
Had a medical appointment in Uni City, left early as worried about parking but no problems so sat and read in the car for a bit. Current book is light & frothy but entertaining enough.
Went well and have medication.
Soup for lunch with a slice of cheese on toast.
Popped into horsey town to collect prescription, also found a lovely candle for the hearth.
Out for a pub meal with lovely gf’s, lots of laughter and it really is the best medicine.
