For past couple of days
Saturday
1. Met a friend for coffee- we had a good catch up and she gave me some work advice. I felt much better after.
2. Tidying out a cupboard and stuff has left the house.
3. My flowers are still looking good.
4. DH drive to London and we didn't get lost!
5. Went to see a Harry Potter film with orchestra playing the film score. It was excellent.
For Sunday.
1. A lie in.
2. Choose some wallpaper. We both agreed quite quickly on one we liked.
3. Looked round a local garden. It was lovely and some of the beds had beautiful dahlias in and the salvias looked great too.
4. Sorted through a box of photo frames etc and DH agreed that we can throw some away. They were cheap ones (and looked it) that his parents had.
5. Tasty tea and plenty left over.9 -
Bit of breakfast
Bit of beach
Bit of lunch sat outside
Bit of walking
Bit of ice cream 🍦11 -
For yesterday,
It was a cold dawn and the heating had kicked in so cosy to get up to.
The usual bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge.
Had turned into a mild, sunny day so plenty of pottering in the garden.
Lunch, a walk around the field with small dog and then sat outside with a cuppa.
The final episode of Karen Pirie, one of the best things I’ve seen for a while.10 -
Good afternoon. Another wonderful autumn day. We've been so lucky this year!
Lainey - we've enjoyed Karen Pirie too, though I must admit we nearly gave up in the first 20 minutes. It seemed a bit manic and silly! But we persevered and it settled down and got better each episode. I hope there's another series.
How I wish I had access to home grown/ foraged apples. I bought some from Aldi. They're sold per apple rather than by weight. Labelled as small Bramleys ( about the size of an eating apple) they were 43p each!! Still, I made an apple sponge and it's very nice! Enough for eight portions so not too bad ( if you say it fast, as my dad would have said!)
Yoga this morning. I found it quite difficult. Not so much the physical stuff as the amount of concentration I needed. But it's got to be good for me.😂
Coffee with my friend afterwards and treated myself to a pretty Puffin necklace from the gift shop. An early birthday present to myself.
Leftover mix of chilli and Bolognese sauce for tea. Should be interesting
Happy 🌞day everyone

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Off to Kwik Fit. There always seems to be some unlikely reason why they can't mend my car. Today, I was told the ramp had been condemned. The exhaust saga continues. I had breakfast in bigger son's favourite cafe and sent him a photo!
3) Popped to Sainsburys afterwards so actually have some practical food in the house now.
4) A fairly quick turn around and off out for English teaching. My one man (over Google translate) was appalled by the age and state of my little car and we had a discussion about welding! We did likes and dislikes and everyone seems to love dogs and horses.
5) My work at the cinema tonight has been cancelled (technical problems) so I've been sat in bed with a pen, paper and laptop trying to catch up on bits of paperwork. The Child Maintenance people have set up a website to log on. except I have never logged on (I presume they didn't even have a website when I put in the claim, in 2005!) It's impossible, and they don't answer the phone, so I wrote them a letter. Also tried to access my premium bonds but they didn't phone with the necessary code so I have left that for now. All these things take ages.
Found a vacancy for the National Trust which says 1850 hours a year but part time. Well, that isn't part time! So I will need to phone and check tomorrow. Still need to book to look round the Canaletto exhibition locally.
6) Nothing to do this evening so will catch up with the Ranganation.8 -
1. A good day as it was a non working Monday.
2. Wrote a letter and then walked and posted I the houses in the vicinity as there are proposals in a local plan to build on all the land around here. All green field and good quality agricultural land.
3. Spoke with some neighbours. Had a good long chat with them. He has lived in the road all his life and was born in one of the houses. He is in his seventies.
4. Took some salvia cuttings. Felt good to be doing something in the garden.
5. Sat in the garden with a coffee finishing my book.9 -
Only wish we lived closer HappyCas, could keep you supplied with apples ☺️For yesterday,
Dropped the mini off at village garage as warning light had popped up over weekend, 🤞not heavy on the pennies.
Sunny day so still drying outside.
Catching up on the first series of S Tucci culinary adventures in Italy, trouble is watching it makes me hungry.
Phone call from the garage, eeek evidence of mice chewing wires, not the first time but I wish they wouldn’t! Good news now all sorted by garage and bill minuscule in the scheme of things.
Time spent with the beautiful grey one, nothing of note achieved but can literally feel any worries float away.9 -
Hello!Time to head homewards.
Big hugs with my boy this morning.Had an early breakfast,
Walked to station to meet DD1. We went to cathedral. I’d a ‘chat’ and she’d a wander. We lit candles. Then we went to a French creperie for lunch. Then a wander and ended up in the Christmas sections of the 2 big department stores. Bought her a Christmas cup and she bought me a Christmas decoration.Back to hotel , showered, changed, finished squeezing things into the cases. Then a big hug with my girl.Over to airport and all checked in. Upgraded to business class, a treat to me from me. Beans on toast when I get back I think!Had some roasted veggies and lovely sweet potato and Parmesan mash. Some bread and cheese and some fruit. Flight leaves in 2 hours. Looking forward to being able to stretch out for 15 hours because I can!See you on the other side!10 -
Good morning, everyone.
ampersand - love your idea of housework, may well adapt that as my own mantra! In the event, that's just about all I did as far as my housework went, lost that mojo very quickly!
Recent pleasures are rather bittersweet but I'll have a go:
1) A year ago today I still had my mum and dad; tomorrow is my dad's one year anniversary and we are having their ashes interred together in the village churchyard. I am dreading it, worse than their funerals, it will be the last thing we do for/with them and the very final goodbye. The pleasure is in doing exactly what they wanted and what they used to talk about and get comfort from - that one day they would be at rest somewhere that meant so much to them and together forever.
2) There are just going to be my brothers and sister and our spouses there so a very private and quiet time to be able to say our last goodbyes but, oh, how I ache to have them back. The pleasure is that we are all very close and will support each other through this.
3) Have spent a lot of time over the last couple of nights just looking at the wonderful sky. The moon has been beautiful and Jupiter so clearly visible. Middle grandson and I have been comparing statistics - his was that Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system, two and a half times bigger that all the other planets put together, mine that it is 4,603 billion years old (how do they even know that?!). Good to reflect that with all our happiness and sorrow we are still a very, very minute part of something much bigger than I can even comprehend.
4) Watched Only Connect last night and did quite well for a change. Very pleased with this as, sometimes, I don't even understand the answers!
5) My bairn had his car serviced and MOT'd yesterday and finished up with everything sorted but a very shocking bill. He would never dream of asking us for anything but I got great pleasure from being able to relieve him of the stress of it by telling him the bank of mum and stepdad was open for business and would sort it. It's a tough time for everyone with a young family to house and keep warm, we went through it ourselves (mortgage rates, I remember well, were crippling in the 80's), so being able to provide him with a financial safety net is a big, big pleasure for me.
So, there we are, pleasures can be found even in tough times.
Have a good Tuesday, hope the day is kind to you.10 -
I'm sorry to hear you are going through a sad time, Highdays.
Pleasures for today (Tuesday)
1) A lie in.
2) Phoned the council re council tax as we no longer have enough income to pay for it. They are going to reassess. A very pleasant and helpful lady on the phone, though she was "only" the person who works for the hub and has to answer all enquiries across the district.
3) Have seen a National Trust job so I phoned today and it is very much full time, with fewer hours in the winter (I presume!) and horrendous, more than full time hours in the summer. Got 2 weeks to decide whether to apply. It would be a bit of a shock to work full time.
4) Booked my ticket for Canaletto tomorrow.
5) Went to ETB for a new exhaust. Got to see the problem (car in the air) and of course it is broken in multiple and expensive places and the bolts might rip out of the manifold and then it will need a new one of those as well. £200 if it goes smoothly. Parts have arrived and will be fitted tomorrow.
6) Had lunch at the college smaller son might have gone to. Drove over to the Rock Houses (National Trust) afterwards to find it only opens Thursday - Sunday.
7) Did roast gammon etc for tea.
8) Watching television in bed now.
9) My mum and brother are on holiday in Devon and have seen 2 seals. I think I saw a pine marten the other day (unlikely but possible). Not as big as a mink.8
