5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Hi againLainey - so glad you are sorted in the new place. You didn't need the hassle but the yard owner's behaviour towards you says it all really...I've had a couple of very mixed days, there were pleasures but I am just struggling a bit and sometimes am just very, very sad. This is a journey I didn't want to be on, I don't think I want to be the grown up, ooohhhh, this could turn into a pity party, which is not attractive, so let's press on with the pleasures:1) Went to a NT house and gardens yesterday and another one today. Always like a few outings when the (grand)children are back at school and it's just us two. Both properties were lovely and we did a big walk in the sunshine at each of them.2) Picked some blackberries to go with my freebie apples. Very frugal! And very autumnal.3) Caught up on Only Connect and University Challenge last night and managed to answer a few questions on each, was very pleased with that as I think they're both getting harder. Or that could just be me!4) My brother rang to say the interment of my mum and dad's ashes has been sorted. They will be together in the churchyard of the village church as they wanted, and the date will be the 12th October - the anniversary of my dad's death last year which is very fitting. Still so hard to believe they both went so quickly but the pleasure is that we will then have carried out all their wishes in a way I know would have made them proud of us. There will just be their 4 children and spouses there - we did the 'public' thing at the funerals, this is just for us. Selfish, maybe, but we are all in agreement that this is how it should be.5) We just made it home today as the heavens opened, now sat inside warm and dry watching the spectacular lightening over the valley and listening to the thunder. There, made it!Hope you have a good evening and thank you for 'listening'!Hx11

Pleasures for today (Wednesday)
1) A good sleep! First in a month, I would say,
2) Thought I would test the car out with a drive to floody city (where it fell to pieces last week...) Did the charity shops and bought various CDs.
3) Popped in at my parents' on the way home as my auntie S was there and we probably only see her every 5 years. She is 90 now - and what a card! If we were to allude to it politely, my parents' house probably isn't the most... forward thinking and accepting... She was driven over by her neighbours (from the Philippines originally) so my brother whisked them out for a long walk immediately. Then she was talking about her younger brother who spends every winter in Brazil. When my mum asked why, auntie boomed, "Because he's a gay man, dear!" which has amused me all day. (I did ask more, to break the silence, and he has a boyfriend of 30 years who lives in Brazil).
4) Spent a lovely hour sorting out the CDs that were scattered all over the car following the emergency stop (well, they were all over the place before that). The scratched ones have been thrown and they are all in the correct cases, in a cardboard box, with the box seat belted in place on the back seat.
5) I've got a pie from the butcher's for tea.10 -
Good morning. Still dark here and wet so I’ll wait a wee while yet to walk doggy.
Wednesday pleasures
Not having to be up and at ‘em and of course sleeping all night, a very rare occurrence.Took my time getting ready and then doggy and I went up to our favourite place and had a nice walk and just got back to the car as the rain got heavier. Was just spitting before that. Then we went round to mums just for 5 minutes. He had some blackberries. Quick chat with mums NDN.
Chatted to DD1
Home. I’d stripped my bedding ( pouring by this time!) sorted out a few things in my wardrobe that I’d taken from mums but probably won’t wear so I’ll see if my aunt wants them or pass them on otherwise. Then the rain stopped and the washing went out and mainly was dried. Did an ironing.Remade bed and popped myself in it!11 -
For yesterday
Waking up and not feeling an immediate sense of worry about what the day would hold.
Spent the morning gently pottering around my home doing all the small bits & pieces that had been pushed to one side.
A parcel of books from WOB, I’ve been doing my annual re-read of the Pop Larkin Chronicles ( uplifting and soothing as needed ) for the last couple of weeks but had ordered a few new to me books.
Over to see pony after lunch, she continues to settle in well and seems happy enough. Happy horse, happy owner.Meal out with three pals, lots of laughs, moans, commiserations and a couple of tears from one who is struggling, normal night out really 😊9 -

Saddened by the news of the Queen’s death. Been watching BBC since back of two o’clock.Anyway prior to this :
Was dry this morning ( now very wet)
Chat with DD1
Went in to town. Parked in a very tight car park where lots of cars were over the lines as the car next to them was . Someone was just leaving so managed to get a straight in and reverse straight out space. Unlike another lady who had to squeeze out her passenger side to get out! Anyway went up to pay for ticket and someone had popped their used one back , not long enough left for me so I passed it on to the lady who had to squeeze out!
Bought a few essentials. And a few non essentials.Met an old school friend and chatted for ages. Nice to see her.Charity shop…got a pair of M&S jeggings for £3 having actually been looking at them in M&S earlier! Also got four books for a pound.Home and quickly phoned my sister then come on doggy, jump in the car we’re going to the big park.
Found my first conkers of the season!
Then home to listen to the news. Which was a bit long winded and full of supposition and then saddened by the actual news. The Queen has been a constant in my life ( a bit like mums next door neighbour!) And now we have a king.9 -
Seem to have lost a post. So for yesterday
1) good full English breakfast at the Premiere where i also made my lunch, thus getting very good value
2) met 2 more of the Venice party at the airport - we had a good catch-cup till we had to split for sitting on the plane
3) got a taxi then a water taxi (or as they say in Venice road taxi then a taxi) to our apartments (3 in each)
4) mum went to the supermarket and I finished my book while i waited in for the last of the gorup
5) then we went out for a very nice meal
and for today
1) a lazy start - sat on my balcony listening to someone playing the organ in the church opposite
2) the 6 of us met for lunch - mum and i shared a pizza and had a side salad each - good choice
3) then we ambled to a coffee stop where I had irn bru (oh ok it was aperol spritz really)
4) then mum and i went on the #1 vaporetto up to the Lido where I went paddling in the sea
5) then back for the news. a shock and not a shock. we had a lovely supper in the apartment while listening to Radio 4.

Recent pleasures;
Monday: Walk in the park and catch up with 2 friends. The sun came out before it rained.
Tuesday: First swim since fracturing my radial head bone (elbow ish). Managed 22 lengths, front crawl was a bit lopsided 🤣 My best friend treated me to afternoon tea as she had an unexpected bonus. Quite nice, but I’ve had better and shocking price. Torrential rain on the way home, could hardly see the car in front.
Wednesday: haircut, getting very expensive.
Today: took OH to drop his car off for service, new cam belt and MOT. We took his mum out for lunch to celebrate her 90th birthday 🎂 today. Then dropped OH off to pick up his car. A very big £ day for him.
Home and put tv on to see what was happening with the Queen, knew it didn’t sound good but was still shocked when the announcement was made ☹️ Feel very sad and moved but was touched by the lovely pictures of her smile. And the rainbow 🌈 over Windsor castle when the flag was lowered.
night all 💤7 -
What a horrid day.
Pleasures for today (and not pleasures) for Thursday
1) A lie in! Hoorah! Perhaps the tide has turned on the weeks of about 4 hours sleep a night.
2) Cooked for the freezer (and for today). Did 3 shepherds pie bases, 5 portions of Spanish chicken, one chicken breast for sandwiches and a tray of brownies. Also did roast beetroot, figs and feta for my lunch. Quite enjoyed doing that little lot.
3) Smaller son's new steering wheel arrived to connect to his computer so he was chuffed about that.
4) Went to the local charity shop but bought nothing. Popped to the tea shop for a pot of tea and took my magazine but couldn't concentrate enough to read it. Something by me (or on the cup??) had latex on so I was dealing with itching and sneezing.
5) Went to the cinema to be the projectionist for a live satellite link to the National Theatre. Another volunteer had gone to some effort to type then print out really clear instructions. I had actually forgotten that until I came to type just now - the one positive from the evening!
2 nice front of house volunteers were milling around. I got the satellite link working and for half an hour it showed various NT trailers and info. I chanced to look down at my phone - and the Queen had died. That threw us into a tailspin because we had no idea if we should still open, would the NT even be doing the play at their end, would people cancel... One volunteer had tears in her eyes and I felt like that too.
Happy people arrived at the door and front of house had to tell them about the Queen and ask if they still wanted to watch the play. Some people turned away. Some were quite distressed. It was very sad.
Fortunately, the NT did go ahead, with a nice speech, a minute's silence and the national anthem before the play.
Towards the end of the evening, I came down from my lofty perch and things took a miserable turn. I had thought that perhaps Mr E was ever so slightly interested in me. Possibly. But today he was chatting to some other volunteers and I'm not sure that he even responded to my hello. He certainly had made no effort to come upstairs. No one included me in the conversation. He had said he would get in contact over email about a few things, but a fortnight has gone by with nothing at all. He was also regaling everyone with a tall story - lets say it was about speed cameras not being necessary and that speed limits don't apply to him (it wasn't that, but it was something equally annoying). I stood there for a minute like a spare part then quietly went back upstairs. The options my brain came up with were to burst into tears or lie on the floor. I paced around instead. When I had finished the screening and switched everything off, I came back downstairs and he had gone home.
A different woman would have sat in her car and punched the steering wheel and screamed for a while. Obviously, I sat in my car and said, "Well, really!" then felt extremely stupid and extremely small. He is not interested and now I have to become not interested as well.
6) On a happier note, bigger son released the first of his travel videos!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBrdwW_JlBs

Hugs Frith xFor yesterday,
An awful night with an upset tum and little sleep, as always the pleasure was getting up.
Dragged myself out to horsey town for a few fresh bits then did a couple of admin chores.
Two hours of sleep on the sofa before lunch.
Then the news started to filter through and it was obvious that it was serious but still a shock when the announcement was finally made, such a gracious lady and a true horsewoman. Sad times indeed.
We tried to catch up on Shetland but both fell asleep so took ourselves off to bed, will try again over the weekend.
