1. Went to do a bit of food shopping. It was fairly quiet and cheap. Did but a couple of things for Christmas.
2. Went to a work social which I had sort of been forced into organising. It was quite enjoyable. Met a colleagues boyfriend for the first time. Line manager never goes to this type of thing and her manager does go but is nice in a social environment!
3. Played rounders and hit the ball and scored a run. Certainly over 30 years since I last played.
DH didn't want to play.
4. Chat with a neighbour when in the garden.
. Watched a James Bond film.9 -
For yesterday,
Woke up early to a quiet, foggy world, small dog cuddles and read my book.
Bacon butties and catching up on all things Ambridge.
Worked in the garden, fixed a trellis to the side of the shed, weeded and picked up some windfall apples. Noticed that the birds are really vocal again, especially a Robin which sat on the shed roof singing it’s little heart out.
Lunch and then dozed with half an eye on the cricket.
Evening walk then cheese & biccies for supper.8 -
Good morning. Very grey here.
Over the weekend
DD came for second attempt to see if all four suitcases fit in her car boot! We'd tried this about a month ago and they did but then she bought a new, bigger case. Luckily they did - just!
Popped round to DS to return things they'd left at the caravan. Had a pleasant hour in the garden with them all.
Our friend came round for a planning meeting. We've booked a coach holiday to German Christmas markets and we hope he's going to join us.
Managed to do some bits of too-long-neglected housework. I fear I'll never be an enthusiastic Holly Housewife!
Made some iced buns after an internal debate about switching the oven on! The thought of having visitors and not being able to offer them something with their coffee outweighed the worry about the price of gas!
Happy Monday everyone

Pleasures for today (Monday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Started the annual bicarb scrub of the living room tiles. It's too tiring to do in one go.
3) Back on the blood sugar diet. Have put some weight on (2 months off the diet) but still 2 stones lighter than earlier this year.
4) Went to board games afternoon with the asylum seekers. Lost 2 games of chess, despite them saying, "Are you sure about that move...?" several times. In one home country I am worth 75 cows as a dowry as I am tall, which is quite pleasing!
5) Had a cup of tea in M and S afterwards.
6) Going to watch University Challenge just now.

I have loaded it to listen to later mehefin (we're currently listening to Mark Steel then of course The Archers)
Goodness I seem to be 2 days behind. holidaying is so exhausting ;-)
For Saturday
1) we took the vaporetto to Burano
2) the restaurant we'd hoped to eat at was full but we found another, booked ourselves for 12:30 then had a coffee at the cafe opposite (well I had Aperol spritz)
3) we had risotto made with fish broth for lunch - it was sooooo good
4) then we went our separate ways, some to shop, me and mum to visit the church then wander round the less busy bits
5) back for ham salad at the apartment and an early night
For Sunday
1) Eucharist at St George's the English church. We signed the Book of Condolence
2) then Vaporetto to Arsenale to meet a lovely couple who the other 4 know - he's an admiral and very kindly treated us to
3) lunch at the Officers' Club - yummy then
4) he took us for a tour of the Arsenale, including a very interesting crane which turns out to have been built by Armstrong Mitchell of England then back to theirs for Tiramisu and tea
5) and back for arancini and salad and another early night
For today
1) slept very well, up early and had my breakfast on the terrace - was lovely sitting in the breeze listening to the city wake up. Finished Still Life which I can thoroughly recommend (and now have Florence on my list)
2) off to San Marco with mum - not at all mse but we went to Florian - we sat inside which was beautiful - the windows were open, the band were playing - mum had coffee and I had a Florian Spritz and we sat there soaking it all up for a whole hour
3) managed to get the front seat in the vaporetto back to Zattare for lunch overlooking the Giudecca Canal with the other 4
4) then they went off for ice-cream and mum and I went to San Michele, the cemetery island - i found somewhere in the shade for mum to sit and had a lovely walk round
5) then back to the apartment for fridge fodder.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hello
Up for work this morning. Optimistically put washing out then it rained but then it brightened up.
In at work till midday. See ya!Popped up to mums house. Went into see NDN and we blethered and watched the Royal stuff. Pulled mums bin out which is why I went round about an hour later!!Home. Hello doggy . We would go out but we have to wait for a parcel which contain new trainers for DD2 that don’t fit her and will have to be returned! However the driver will change the delivery time and therefore we could have had a lovely walk then I’m sure. And surely the delivery chap won’t try and come round the back garden…well I’d have chased him too and barked at him! He said I’ve been doing the job for 3 weeks and have been attacked by 4 dogs. I pointed out that my dog did not attack him. My dog barked at him as he came in his garden! Anyway the ‘your parcel has been delivered ‘ photo is quite amusing! And maybe don’t go round folks back gardens!Anyway we went for a big walk round the big park and found more conkers then popped into the vets to get yummy flea and worm tablets. He thinks they’re such a treat!Popped in to see two separate friends with bunches of flowers and very quick chatters.10 -
Pleasures for today
1. Up early to take ds2 to work meant early doggie walk in the fields.
2. met a friend for coffee and cake
3. Got more sorting done.
4. Dinner was meatballs and spaghetti, made a tomato & courgette sauce which was delicious even if I say so myself
5. Early to bed - another early start tomorrow to take ds2 to work again.10 -
Unfortunately, the infection the docs are treating hasn’t been affected by the antibiotics, it’s now tracked to my neck, which is a tad concerning, I finish the antibiotics tonight, so hoping to call them tomorrow, always a fun pastime trying to get through.
1 Washed a pair of sandals that were going in the bin otherwise and they survived
2 Meal planned for the week ahead.
3 Numerous wash loads off the line and back on the line.
4 I was clearing garden debris, and cutting plants back, I was about to move a cracked container that’s fallen on the floor to the tip, when I moved it there was a big slow worn, and a newt, so I admired them and popped the pot back down to protect them. The front patch of grass has weed and feed down it’s become overgrown from it but still needs two more days.
5 Started reading a really lovely book so far, The one hundred years of lenni and Margot.

2. Text messages with a friend.
3. Cauliflower cheese made for tea. Needed comfort food.
4. Watched Only Connect. Didn't answer as many questions as last week.
5. A much needed early night.9 -
Ooh DD we loved Venice and hope to go back again one day.
Get well wishes for PK
For yesterday,
Took small dog to the vets for a medication review, she’s on an anti inflammatory painkiller for the arthritis, all good but I had to smile because she was all yes, yes you are lovely but if you would just open this door and let me out that would be smashing.
Dropped doggie off home and then back into horsey town to visit the emporium for supplies.
Renewed car insurance, less than last year and pay monthly interest free so all good.
Over to see ponio, warm in the sunshine so we had a little walk around the farm & then she had a mane, tail and feather tidy.
Salmon frittata for tea, watched Uni Challenge then we both fell asleep trying to watch a 24 hours in A&E.9
