5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

For yesterday,
Sleep eluded me once more apart from the last hour before my alarm, thank goodness for coffee!
Felt a bit meh all day so made it a quiet one at home, heavy rain for most of the morning so just pottered around.
Did change the bed, whipped a blanket off and got the summer coverlet out of storage, smelt of last year’s lavender as had popped a bag in with it. Hoping it will help.
Cloud blew away and it was a nice afternoon / evening, good long walk with small dog.
Tea was HM salmon fish cakes with sweet pot wedges, glass of rose as well, couple of squares of dark choc bit later.
eta, meant to say hello Elizabeth, my darling Mum could have gone free as well ☺️9 -
Afternoon all
Lainey, I love the smell of lavender. A house on the way to our local shops has huge bushes overhanging the pavement and I love sweeping my hand across it as I walk by. It isn't flowering yet - can't be doing this when the bees have found it!
Frith, you have the patience of a saint with the bureaucracy you have to deal with.
Five recent pleasures:
1. Loved the story of the Jubilee Black Oak Table. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-61487686. It seemed like such a good mix of reusing and valuing natural resources, preserving history, giving work to traditional craftspeople, making a new object which is practical and beautiful with a long life to come, and celebrating the jubilee in a way that means something. Ticked a lot of boxes for me. I'd like to see it.
2. Bought some very cheap tomato plants at the local plant sale. Already have the grow bags for them so, all being well, I should make more money in fruit than I've spent this year.
3. A wonderful woman at the plant sale found my purse where I'd accidentally put it down to choose plants and got it back to me before I'd even missed it.
4. Picked a bunch of rosebuds from the garden for a jam jar indoors. They've opened and downstairs is awash with the smell of old fashioned roses.
5. Spent some of yesterday evening listening to an audiobook while knitting the second sock of the pair that has been sitting around for ages waiting to be finished. The heel was turned so I'm on the home straight. I am going to learn to knit the two-socks-at-a-time method for future projects. Never again will I let myself have the second sock procrastination problem.
Have a lovely rest of Saturday

Friday was a very quiet day. And quite unremarkable. Doggy walk and washing dried I think!Today I was in at work for 5am, so doggy and I out about 4.30am quickly and then a nice big walk at 6am. Just us and the birds.
Then I went back out to skinny club. Parked near the big park and walked round twice. Saw one parrot, cygnets and cooties! And a woodpecker. Just the most beautiful start to the day.And lost a further 3lbs. I’m a half pound off a stone. Have rediscovered my dimples when I smile and my ankles! Who knew! And there’s such a lovely friendly vibe at the group. A good way to start a Saturday morning. Then home and went out for breakfast with DD2. To one of my very favourite places that was absolutely swathed in bluebells. Then the fun part of the day was done! Round to my mothers. We put out 3 bin liners full of rubbish. There are visible worktops in the kitchen ( all bets on as to how long this lasts…my sister going for an optimistic Monday!)
And home, where it’s mostly tidy! ( apart from my room which has dolls house renovations going on! )And a hello doggy, yes it’s nice to see you too.A day of showers and not very warm but everything is just so lush and green. Blooming slugs/snails have munched through a courgette plant. Grrr!10 -
Pleasures for today (Saturday)
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son in quite a chipper mood.
3) Did various jobs round the house and watered the pots and the front strip of garden.
4) Talked to my neighbour who will be returning to work soon after 6 months off for extremely major surgery.
5) Went to M and S cafe for a cup of tea and then to Sainsburys.
6) Lots of cooking today. Made 8 portions of tomato sauce this morning. Fried halloumi and salad for smaller son's lunch and hummus and celery for mine. Tea was a homemade pizza for him (with mozzarella) and veg bake for me.
7) Ready to watch Casualty now.
Re: my regal name. As Obi wan Kenobi said, "now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time". No one calls me that but it's on my driving licence and I shall enjoy my free day on the train!11 -
My pleasures for today
Washing dried outside
Tasty tea of Tagine chicken with cous cous.
Being awoken early by the pupster.Lovely sunshine
looking after my old doggie for the day as ex went to a wedding-he’s nearly 13 now.11 -
1 Re filled all the bird feeders, and they were literally down as I did them, but as soon as I spoke, they were off. So sat and admired the woodpecker.
2 Washing loads hanging out and dried.
3 Popped to the discount store and picked up some mark-downs. Turned the 75% off “meat on sticks” into meatballs, it was tastey.
4 Potted on pepper plants, planted up 2 plants, planted what I hope turns into salad leaves, took the sunflowers out to outside before planting them tomorrow.

1. A lazy start to the day-to-day doing an online food shop whilst drinking coffee.
2. A walk to the station. Said hello to lots of people as saw loads of people. Some days I've done the walk and not seen a soul. A very chatty little girl at the station.
3. Trains were ok and bus replacement service was surprisingly efficient.
4. At Twickenham I had to wait outside for friends to arrive as I had their tickets and really enjoyable watching. Everybody enjoying a day out in the sun.
5. A good match and guaranteed 3rd place so away for a play off semi final.
6. A lift home via a Chinese restaurant with friends and DS1 and girlfriend. An enjoyable meal with good company.10 -
For yesterday,
Bit of a lie-in followed by toast & honey.
Got over to see pony, didn’t feel up to much so just gave her a good groom whilst she fell asleep.
Good long chat with my fellow livery owner.
Took small dog out for a walk, unfortunately we had to cut it short as she seemed to pull a muscle chasing a tennis ball ☹️ gave her an extra dose of her anti-inflammatory when we got home which seemed to help.
Southern fried chicken for tea with potato salad, more wine might have been consumed!10 -
lovely as always to catch up on all your posts, now duly done. all the best with ds's next stages of his education frith you are one amazing mum. For Friday (which should be meeting free so i can catch up on emails but had 4 'emergency' meetings 9, 9:45, 10:15, 10:45...)
1) 11:40 am closed the laptop down and trotted off to the Botanics for lunch meeting with colleague from Life Sciences - he bought lunch, I shared the marking model I have created on my course complete with what he needs to consider and lessons learnt, then we walked round the garden and he made excellent suggestions for a couple of problems I've got
2) which meant he was just leaving at 3pm when my phd student arrived - we had our supervisory meeting over coffee (my treat)
3) and he left just as my friend arrived at 4pm - I bought her a very late lunch, we had a great laugh and she dropped me off at
4) Friday Phoenix - lovely catch-up with 5 friends, including the lunchtime colleague (the other 4 are retired)
5) then I bought him and me kebabs and he walked me to Mennies, more friends (no DrM), more laughs
despite being in pubs for most of the evening I am getting very canny at keeping my alcohol level low. Then for Saturday
1) awake at 7, glorious day, washing out, long soak in the bath with magazines from mum before
2) a full day back on the puter boo, weather clouded over in sympathy. At 6:30 finally finished hooray and will take day off in lieu on Friday so definitely something to look forward to - going to Cupar with friends for the day
3) mushroom omelette with salad for tea
4) long walk with the boys round the nature reserve while phoning dad
5) then home for Derry girls, jam on crumpets, a big mug of tea and an early night. Slept fantastically well, not least cos the cursed resub is complete - will let you know if it gets acceptedMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
