Back to real life after our wonderful 11 days in Cornwall. OH back to work on the Country Park and me back to reality and coping with the mess and decorators that don’t appear every day so the job is dragging on.
Progress has been made after a push on Friday when I had 2 workmen here and one was the actual decorator rather than general builder so lot more done, so decorating nearly finished, but radiators and new pipe work and other bits to be done. Now got to wait nearly 4 weeks for carpet fitting so we are going to be crammed into the kitchen/diner for a while yet and it is so awkward on the stairs with the old carpet fixings still there! Will be lovely went it’s all done.
I silvered my wooden hall mirror to go with the new decor and I’m quite pleased with it. I’m going to do a bigger ornate one, given to me by sis in law when she moved, for the dining room, very MSE.
Yesterday was a lovely sunny day and we had intended to spend most of it try to tame the unruly back garden but I got sidetracked vacuum packing up my Summer clothes as I was fed up with not being able to fit anything in the wardrobes. Managed to sort a bin bag for the charity shop, but still way too much stuff!
Did get out in the garden in the afternoon and OH cut back the bay tree and we decimated the huge hebe which had grown huge at weird angles. We then spent ages sawing and cutting the debris into small pieces for the green bin.
As the sun was out I had a relaxing half hour in the hot tub which we are keeping heated for the last weekend despite the expense.
After our exertions we treated ourselves to a takeaway curry 🍛 , truly a pleasure 😊
Have a great Sunday everyone and I hope the poorlies are feeling better.11 -
Sanding, glossing, walls to be coloured! Ah, emulsions are for walls! Oh and Rat Poison!
Cars washed and waxed?
Hens ok!
Dog gone crackers?
Ship's Log
Was on Date Night yesterday and M&M, one does not know what is in port until I see the food list! So I had the sirloin steak, with tomato, mushroom and chips! Very tasty. The Albatross (Ms Admiral) had mac and cheese with a garlic and rosemary flat bread! Too many fiery fizzy waters were taken! Bit unsteady on the pins back to the cabin!
Message for DD We are still top and only one place behind the rivals up the road! Hence above, bit unsteady on the pins!
Did the upstairs water closet yesterday and got a new syphon fitted!
Empress is well, and we are on cat duties this week! Neighbour is away and our local wattsup group has all the cats on it!
Breakfast from the galley was dippy eggs with toasted buttered marmite soldiers! Very tasty, and then a jam crumpet. Tea was also taken!
Now watching the cricket on the box. Chocolate Swiss roll and tea is being taken!
Jen sends a buzz!
Keep Safe!I work from home so my cat can be fed on demand!12 -
1. Had to work. One of my 2 or 3 Saturdays in a year. It was very quiet and seemed pointless but we have to work some Saturdays.
2. Quick journey to work-related no other traffic at 7.15.
3. To my parents for a meal. Lovely evening.
4. Home with some plants and cake.
5. Finished my book12 -
Afternoon all

3. washing on the line
4. a takeaway curry

And yesterday
1. decided on Friday to spend marking money on a theatre trip so DD and i went to london to see Prince of Egypt. Was fabulous and the most visually stunning show i've seen since Lion King
2. Before that i went to the Foundling Museum. Really interesting (DD went shopping, I hate shopping)
3. We had lunch in a japanese restaurant that wasn't Wagamama
4. Train journeys good and I walked quite a long way
5. spent a nice half an hour on a bench in the sun in Bloomsbury square while DD went to yet another shop
Have a good rest of sunday all.I wanna be in the room where it happens12 -
VJsmum I went to UCL so love Bloomsbury, so many happy memories. Lived on Tavistock Square...don't think I'll ever be able to afford that again! Your day sounds fab. I really like Busaba in that area. It's a chain again but really delicious and more atmospheric than Wagas!

Workety day one done. Hurrah.Lovely walk this morning. Still dark but slowly getting lighter. Don’t like walking in the dark ( don’t like anything about the dark other than stars) but I knew it was going to get lighter so it was okay.Work . Done.Tips okay.Quick dash home to dash back out for dinner. Didn’t stay too long.
Quick doggy walk just as it was getting dark.11 -
1. DD had friend for sleepover so when they emerged I made HM pancakes with sliced strawberries, bananas, syrup etc and we had breakfast in the dining room which we have used fewer than 5 times (to eat, anyway!) since moving in, in May. I must figure out how to protect the table. It’s ancient and a 14 seater beast and I’m terrified of ruining it but I can’t find anything big enough to protect it, haven’t figured out what I’d need to make and also haven’t come across any non-hideous placemats. Anyway, table was unscathed and breakfast had a real sense of occasion!
2. Lovely day today. DH and tot spent loads of time in the garden and I managed to dry some washing on the line! I got plenty of housework done.
3. No spend day today, though I did attempt to spend £350 (see no 5!)
4. Made lasagne for the first time in a long time tonight. Tofu (instead of ricotta) and spinach and it was lovely with salad and garlic bread. The tot hoovered it up and I didn’t have to fight the teen to get her to eat the spinach bits.
5. Started looking at France hol next year. A friend is getting married in Allemans. Found a perfect gite for wedding dates but booking rejected as fewer than 7 nights. Poo! Don’t think I can keep toddler (who will be 2.5 by then) and 14yo entertained there for whole week and it is a grand for the week which is more than eurocamp so not VFM for us (considerably posher than euro camp of course but without all the activities, water parks, kiddy playmates, clubs etc!). I’ll look for a B&B/hotel tomorrow night just for the weekend of wedding then we will move to the eurocamp in sarlat or head north towards our beloved Loire (not least because of the wine…hic!) anyway pleasure is holiday planning because I have not been away since 2019!!!!!11 -
vjsmum we were in close proximity
for yesterday
1) full English at the premier inn Earls Court
2) walked through Kensington gardens then tube to chancery lane then post museum to meet dad and his oh for the first time since covid
3) after a cuppa we went on the mail train
4) then round the museum, including the hen and chickens, a postal bike my grandpy made a replica of for a 1930s exhibition - it might be his in the museum, we're not sure then coffee and cake and fond farewells
5) supper at the pub round the corner from the hotel with the football
and today (and the reason we're here!)
1) up early off to the royal parks for dd2's first 1/2 marathon
2) after cheering madly at the 4 mile mark I headed up Birdcage Walk. The morning service at Guards Chapel was about to start to I nipped in - beautiful service. Today would have been my 34th wedding anniversary. 1st hymn was To be a pilgrim - also the 1st hymn at my wedding - God has a naughty sense of humour! Was also a christening and the father's mum had been born in Dundee - small world!
3) back to meet DD2 well done her - we went back to the hotel to pick up our cases and she headed off with her BF to stay at his
4) bought the last sandwich in Boots, reduced to 50p, very msethen St Pauls for evensong. forgot i wouldn't be able to take the case in but fortunately know one of the canons and was able to leave it a Anon Court (what a great name!)
5) now at xoh's brother's. have had a lovely supper, super catch up, watched a couple of episodes of motherland and now catching up on news quiz. night all

Pleasures for today (Sunday)
1) Had a lie in after being woken at 5am by smaller son getting into the spirit of the boxing match on television! I don't know why he and bigger son are such fans - I've never watched it - and how they know all the technical terms! Lots of shouting and spurring on Tyson Furey was drifting up the stairs.
2) Got most of the housework done early on. Changed my bed. Did washing.
3) Went to see my friend at a local cafe but they closed at 12.30 for a private function (we only arrived at 12). So we drove in convoy to the nearest town and had lunch and sat outside there until after 3pm. Nice to have a chat and to get out and sit in the sunshine.
4) Hens OK.
5) Talked to my school friend on the phone.
6) In bed now with 1 hot water bottle and will watch Gone Fishing just now.11 -
For yesterday,
Up early, small dog took one look at the rain falling before having a quick wee and running back to her basket so made a cup of tea and read my book.
Did a bit in the garden, cleared some pots ahead of planting up for winter colour and weeded all the beds. I need to order some spring bulbs.
Beef braised in red wine with mushrooms for lunch, too full for dessert.
The sun came out so we had a walk around the fields.
A beautiful crescent moon low in the sky.10
