Hello. It’s turned into a beautiful afternoon.
well my day started very early when my mum phoned me in a panic at 1.10am as her house alarm was going off and she didn’t know what to do. Er…put your code in? So that did the trick and a cat was in the kitchen moving around and set the alarm off. Panic over. But that was me wide awake.Went a nice doggy walk this morning. Just me and my dog and the birds.Went to Lidl for it opening. Had a £10 off a £40 spend. So went round with my calculator. Then walked round to my mums but she was still in bed so just dropped off some shopping I’d got her and left. Then home and painted the porch. It was supposed to be getting floored and a new light fitting but chap was unable to do it due to being tracked and traced. And the paint not as dark as I’d thought, which isn’t dark at all but a caffe au lait colour was what I’d had in mind. This was only slightly darker than the cream already painted. Anyway job done and looks smarter than it was. Then potted up some new plants and got rid of some scabby looking ones at front porch. Washed the step and swept up. Also popped in two new solar lights, see if they are charged enough tonight.Moved garden sofa back to side of garden …also moved about a zillion snails.A RTC steak pie in oven with some little potatoes and parsnips in to roast too. And the last of the RTC holiday broccoli.10 -

1. Met a friend for coffee. Had a good catch up and walked round a garden which has free entry.
2. Had to pop into a supermarket and only came out with what I went in for.
3. Washing dried on the line.
4. Time spent in the garden. Much weeding was done.
5. Met friends for dinner. We hadn't seen them in a couple of years and was good to catch up with them and all their news.9 -
Pleasures yesterday....
First of six days off after a really busy shift.
Washing and ironing brought up to date.
Morning walk with dog in park. Obviously black and white collie day because there was mine and two chaps called Loki and Fred. Much chasing around happened, much to the delight of us owners. Then Luna the black cocker spaniel joined in, what larks! It is lovely to see dogs running around together having fun and burning off all that energy in the fresh air.
Extra walk later in the afternoon, this time with her tennis ball. More energy used, more fun had. You have to keep a Border Collie's brain occupied or they get very naughty through boredom.
Singing practice, music is so good for your physical and mental health.
Mixed a batch of sourdough. I do mine over two days, allowing it to rise slowly, no kneading required. 250gms bread flour, half teaspoon salt, half tablespoon honey, 150 gms starter, 110 mls warm water. Mix ingredients, put in fridge. Next day, take dough out, shape it and put it in the baking tin. Leave it on worktop until next day. Heat oven to 210 degrees, putting a dish of water in the bottom. Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown. Best eaten within 48 hours.
Warm shower, Vitamin E moisturiser rubbed into dry skin on face and body - now's the time to prepare the skin for winter.
A glass of Pinot Noir whilst watching Strictly Come Dancing, a guilty pleasure.
Fresh clean sheets on the bed, Classic FM on the radio, my animals on and under the bed, snoozing.

Sounds like a fab day Nargle.
For yesterday,
Nice lie-in then a lazy start with a pot of coffee.
A warm, sunny, late summers day. Over to see my girl where I filled a bucket with brushes, a drink for me and carrots for her then walked out to her paddock to give her a groom. It replicates the natural mutual grooming of a herd environment and is one of her favourite things.
Then I found a shady spot, turned the bucket upside down and sat for an hour or so, listening to the Boss on my phone and watching my horse graze. Now and again she would wander over and get a piece of carrot.
Cheese and biscuits for a late lunch then listened to the U’s win away from home.
Tasty tea, paella accompanied by a glass of cold cider.
We are a bit late to it but have just started watching the new version of All Creatures Great and Small, smashing programme and just love the sets, costumes, cars etc.

Forgive me but RL is going bonkers - I’m in class as a pupil & the car needs an MOT which it will get next Tuesday but that’s meant a week & a half forcibly pedestrianised…Mhagster - glorious break, & Argh, RLAmpersand - maintain the forces vitales even as technology slides demurely elsewhereFrith - rousing hallelujahs on mortgage, intermittent college time & apparently almost autonomous elder son!Bala - big hugs & strength to youAdmiral - on deck, In Slippers?! Eh?Nargleblast - Wonderful day there.LaineyT - the Boss, the sun, a drink, and occasional requests for carrot from the beautiful one - sounds utterly glorious!DundeeDoll - there’s a thing called “work life balance” ?!OS pleasures recentlyBeing coached through identifying “critical points”, I found why one colleague muttered ‘they All remember this’. Well, yes, the idea of the reputational damage caused by an auditor leaping into a Far Too Hot bath & screaming down a hotel corridor in suds & pain Is a bit memorable…The power of ebay is someone who doesn’t really appreciate their LED maglite can sell it to someone who does. O unwanted gift, I am so happy to have you! Not least as modifying the tiny solitaire torches is not easy. Swap in a lithium battery & it’s working (as well as shelf) life quadruple easily.Sister’s puppy still exploring things with her mouth - reminds me of babysis’ European School mates one of whom had a “three-mouth dogling”. A phrase that went into family vocab & the growing pup reminds us of. She’s almost always sprawled on sis’ bed asleep beside her at family zooms.Sorted m’lady mother a shooting stick & it arrived during the family zoom, so she tested it in the garden & fell, not having quite mastered it & dad not being ready to grab! No harm taken but much amusement & now happy anticipation. [We’re now requiring her to practice with it on each zoom, before she takes it on holiday.][They’re back & it was a bit too heavy…]Love the QI false memories & how the woman of the house chooses the car & picks the electricity supplier & selects what they eat, whereas the man concentrates on the important stuff like whether we should maintain an armed presence in Bosnia….Son just back from DofE gold expedition & barrelled into the bath, rather than a mere shower. Despite the training, still blistered feet, poor delicate flower! Amazed the Royal Mail (his employer) paid subs, fees, & even his wages throughout, but everyone’s pleased.A ball of waxed wrap off cuts seemed to roll of it’s own volition: “it’s learning” opined youngest…Aw, family bought me strawberries. Yum, smashing breakfast!Crooned over images of tarp configurations now wallpaper on his tablet & Himself confessed it was by accident & anyway the diagrams weren’t detailed enough. Awww!“It’s here, behind the dartboard, the melty thinger” - and after several further interrogatives, we agree he means the enamelling kiln.I have three tomatoes! Marble sized but three! Grown from seed… and all praise & honour to Middleson who not only unlocked the shovel but dug me three sound holes for the currant bushes in the nursery & cleaned & locked away the shovel, all without fuss. This afternoon’s rain should water them in soundly & then they can set about getting familiar with the slope before winter bites. [So it hasn’t rained for five days & I’m aching lugging the watering can.]There’s nothing like the car not working to remind you how useful it is! Son giving me a lift one way, bus back with some extra shopping (eeeep, really So not my idea of fun.)Peacefully enjoying the Repair Shop & suddenly jolted upright “wasn’t that?” “Did you see?” “Permagrit!” Argh, we’ve become tool spotters…Won a small jade engraved tablet, on which I recognise “long life”: just hope others not ‘carnation’ & ‘tinned’… [Old Uni mate, reading my intrigued puzzlement over an inscribed charm on Fb, showed it to a Singapore pal & it’s “Fu Lu Shou meaning Fortune, Prosperity and Longevity...all the stuff we have been trained to seek.“!]We have led Youngest astray well. Baked beans on toast becomes a Treat when he’s added tomato purée, balsamic vinegar, fresh basil sage thyme & a scrunch of black pepper!Menfolk went out to shop for soap - never asked me, with a pack stashed. Aye well, good to know they’re vigorous with it & want it handy & abundant!Proud of youngest, familiar with the Fiji mermaid, whereas I boggled happily at QI.Middleson blessed with working car & funds has done some shopping including a pack of fresh cherries for me. [Then woken me on Saturday to do the serious weekly shop. Impressive young tyrant.]Youngest went out for a walk in the sunshine. Reappeared seconds later like an irate vampire - the local schools chuck out early on a Wednesday & he had no wish to stroll amongst “the Petri dishes with feet”.Himself restored to relative tranquillity after I set my phone to hotspot for him… I know the house wifi is frustrating but sometimes guile & persuasion are not enough & a simple phone cheat helps.Today work ventured onto near-theological grounds of database management & I am now yearning for the weekend when the pain will briefly stop. [ S’glorious!]Ahem, Bob’s Burgers (TV cartoon) had a gag about buying a wildly overpriced knife & I just sat laughing. Himself had the grace to look slightly abashed… Thing is, I do buy him knives & have done for decades.“Yes, I much prefer my whatsit thing” - ye gods, the Dig family vocabulary is both extensive & hard to access…Observing a pensioner preparing to mix lime mortar to fill in a gap between the roof & the chimney stack in the weaving museum. I did plead with her to do this with a mobile phone in her pocket, the safety line on the ladder & someone aware what she was doing & got the tolerant affectionate look I give my sons when they’re fussing pointlessly….Oh my. Of all the games, Hunt The Rucksack has to be the most bonkers game in this house. We have enough to equip a scout troop so he’s hanging onto reason with his fingernails. Upside is Middleson think he has seen it in the last few months, so the bafflement has company. Some mornings I need more than one cup of tea. Facebook suggested Amazon had “Oval-shaped Push in # 2 Silicone Nose Pads“ well, I was curious & it took Several Seconds for me to realise these are for glasses… (I wondered if they were to help you press wall switches.)Health strength hugs & courage to all as have need, reliably wet & as-reliably sunny for those with growing things &/or laundry (Admiral, if you’d liaise?) & may what’s left of the weekend be satisfying!
