5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

A strange day.
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Bigger son made poached eggs for breakfast.
3) We went to the local gardens and met my sister and niece. Discussed my elderly aunty who went into a home late last year and had been in hospital but got better.
4) Hens OK.
5) Quite a tasty tea.
This afternoon, not long after talking about my aunty and her future, I got a message from my brother to say she had just died. Very unexpectedly whilst up and about in the old people's home, just could not be resuscitated. Dad phoned the home yesterday but she did not speak to him. She told the nurse to say "Nothing personal, I'm a bit tired today". She was an only child and has no relations (we're not even relations but her husband was my grandma's brother). She has a name that has proved impossible to google as its the name of a place then a noun (like "Canberra Tree"!) so I've not been able to find any long lost cousins. The grammar school she went to is long gone. The grammar school she taught at for decades the same. All we can think to do is put a good write up in the local paper then try and make sure the food from her house goes to a food bank (she's only been in home for a couple of months), books to a charity shop and so on.

DD, I discovered the same thing re cheeses in mr t. but cheated by buying 3 parmesans......
Forgot to mention had my jab. Astro Zen.
Still trying things with white/bechamel sauce. Always seem to make too much of it........and agree with Happycass...I make an awful mess, use too many pans.......
Am typing on new laptop. Not bad for the price (very cheap) and I also have new secondhand phone. My other one didn't ring !
My foxes do not like anything with fish.
My little birds are back, thank goodness. I bought a 5 kilo bag of seed, reduced because bag was torn.
Haven't seen Flo & Co for a while. Perhaps she has another baby.

Sorry for the loss of your aunty Frith. No matter whether there's blood involved, if she's your aunty then she's your aunty.
Pleasures for today
1. Starting the last season of The Lost Kingdom. Also grateful for google / wikipedia to be able to look up more information about an era i knew nothing about. strangely attracted (intellectually, not physically) to Alfred the Great.
2. Clean bathrooms, bedroom and looking forward to clean sheets
3. A walk with OH and DD - somewhere slightly different for a couple of miles and then into the arboretum where we had a takeaway cup of tea.
4. Washing out on the line - not dry but i like to see it.
5. paella for tea
Have a good evening - will Cymru get the grand slam???I wanna be in the room where it happens12 -
Pleasures today.
I got a firm of professional cleaners to come and do a full deep clean on the house. They worked their socks off and did a brilliant job. House now fresh and clean for the equinox.
Dog went for long walk with dog walker, came back exhausted. She'll sleep well tonight.
A load of whites drying on the line outside.
Real coffee drunk whilst sitting in a hanging egg chair in the garden, the sun shining warmly.
Got the whole of the front garden weeded and shrubs out the back pruned. The sun does give me
the motivation to do stuff.
One life - your life - live it!12 -
Sorry to hear about your Aunty Frith.
1. Long chat with a friend. It was her birthday.
2. Did some gardening - very gentle as per instructions.
3. Went to nursery- some plants were brought.
4. Rugby watched - some matches much better than others.
5. Turkish take away for tea.12 -
Hello all,
My dad died yesterday (sorry about your aunty Frith, it must have been a day for it). The pleasure was that he died in his sleep - when the carer went to wake him up he was already gone.
Just to make my day more interesting the HT's cat then started vomiting. Usual occurence but it went on long enough to worry me. Thankfully she was ok by bed time but didn't want to eat. A low grumble this morning informed me that she was ready for her usual breakfast ham but if it happens again we will be off to the vet.
I bought the teens and my Looked After Person a McD's for lunch. My dad would have totally disapproved so that made us smile. The last money he ever gave me as a present I spent in the ice cream bar in Harrods with my sister and the HT. I wanted to do something memorable with the cash as I knew it would be the last present he ever gave me (and I was right, he had a stroke not long after followed swiftly by vascular dementia). We spent £60 on the best and biggest ice creams that we've ever had, cold drinks on the hottest ever day and impeccable waiter service. As a memorable occasion it lived up to expectations, we have the photos of the ice creams and every time one of us mentions it we laugh. It was a lot of money and I don't regret it one little bit.
The HT and his partner are both here but I felt like some adult company last night so best friend stepped in again. I've been so thankful for him living close by the last couple of weeks. I'm not sure that he feels the same way. If you ask him how he's finding retirement he says "busy", ha ha.
My sister sent me some photos of our little rascals after we'd talked on the phone. My great niece and great nephew. Both gorgeous.
Take care all of you15 -
So sorry for your loss, Cranky. Those Harrods ice creams are something else though, aren't they? I've never got through a whole one (though we've only been twice - the second time we shared one).I wanna be in the room where it happens13

Condolences to both Cranky and Frith x
For yesterday,
Bit of a lie-in and then a slow, lazy breakfast.
Over to the yard, bit overcast but warm enough so all horses out without rugs. Took a bucket of brushes and a couple of carrots up to girlie’s field and gave her a groom whilst she sorted through the bucket. Lots of grey hair floating around and the crows were flying down to pick it up for nest lining, can imagine all those baby birds hatching out into my girlie’s soft hair, awww.
Lazy afternoon sitting on sofa reading and listening to the footie commentary, despite missing a pen United won again, be just our luck to get promoted this year when no fans will be there to see!
Tasty tea, steak burgers with roasted butternut squash and HM paprika houmous.
Watched the 2nd instalment of the programme about the 80’s followed by a TOTP 1985 special.10 -
Condolences Cranky and Frith.
Cranky I wanted to cry when I read your post. Have special anniversaries this week, loved ones lost. Feeling it. But love your outrageous purchase. I sanction and applaud ANY buying and consuming of ice-cream. I might try it myself one day.
have a good day all......

Oh no. Been ampersanded twice. Two posts gone. Let's hope for third time lucky!
So sorry to hear your sad news Frith and Cranky. And everything is so much more difficult at the moment.
Today I have discovered that it is the equinox everywhere in the world. I knew it was here, of course, but didn't realise it was everywhere at once. Amazing! And I bet you all knew already, didn't you!
I'm trying a new chilli recipe. It uses stewing steak instead of mince and has cocoa powder in. Will let you know what it's like. It's perhaps a good job BoP isn't around. I don't think he'd approve.
My little patchwork bird has two left wings! DH says it'll fly round in circles! Left and right have never been my strong points. Will try to cut one out again.
Beautiful warm day here so going to sit in the garden with a coffee before I do anything else.
Happy equinox everyone - wherever you are.
