5 OS pleasures in your day today - part 3

Pleasures:
1. I *think* I managed to save the sourdough starter I forgot about for nearly two days. Fingers crossed. I have to keep it in the rarely used microwave for warmth as we leave the kitchen window open for the cats (this is a rental so we can't put in a catflap)
2. Dinner last night was amazing. I used up the cauliflower and last of the kale and managed to resist the supermarket last night, which meant no wine but DH made us both an Old Fashioned instead which was nice.
3. Watching the last episode of Roadkill with my lovely DH last night. Finally. Love Hugh Laurie.
4. Baby Roo, who is a bit of a pain at the mo and slept between us most of the night, waved for the first time at 5.40am this morning. Bless him.
5. Did an acid face mask last night. Pampering isn't a regular occurance at the moment.
I'm going to try and get off to the supermarket before 7 and beat the crowds. Will be my one outing all week apart from going to a NT property on Sunday for a walk. Stay safe everyone.13 -
Too much to catch up on, 1st post lost😖, again, but things....
Start with a standalone one - an NSD😇 for & yesterday.
NSDs used to be one of this Thread's prize osps.
1. Again exceptional care at Addenbrookes, 2 departments. Monday op. off. Mr G came in between ops, looked, discussed. He is terrific. Thumb de-gunked, stitches out, x-rays, but sawn bone surfaces bonding unclear, means leave several more weeks. He will do final op, concerned re: earlier method.
2. Had a very non-& thought, so first time ever, &'s birthday now a public fundraiser for The Red Hen project.
https://www.redhenproject.org/
All charities are having a hard time, especially small, local ones. This one works with the excellent Romsey Mill; both Town of Gown.
Needed before, needed even more now.
3. Terrific CUBG visit yesterday, and birthday one tomorrow. So fortunate to have this beneficent site on hand.
Absolutely freezing, -4⁰C throughout, but still so good, good, good😊.
Life in buds springing, birds everywhere, people few, all sights and senses heightened. Lakes part-iced over. H-m lunch lush - smoked salmon omelette, thermos café, almond croissant. As always, ritual time in the NZ garden. Many pics.
4. Parked outside Alma. Down came lovely M with big crimbo box! & had THAT marmalade to hand over. Happy catch-up also with grand'mère, still in UK - 3 flight cancellations - and new grandson. Big snug walks out every day🙂. All is working well in their unexpectedly extended happy family.
5. Extra blanket on, hwb, took quite a while to really warm up. Will adjust tomorrow's CUBG visit accordingly.
Usually take self out of UK this time of year, deliberately. Good long msg'g 1st thing from NZ and Spain(cold+wet, woodburner on), then London friends. Concerned for them.
This was inside &'s car, after an hour with heater on:

Everyone please keep doing the safe, right things. There's much more long-hauling yet. NZ's current story is so different, as great family summer pics show &, both lockdown littlies - born May and October - brown, chuckling, growing fast, everyone happy, grateful, vigilant, aware.
The deliberate deranged horror of sedition, insurrection, incitement to murder, 5 lives lost because of an insane psychopath/sociopath, is another reason to hold Life dear, every aspect, every one of the 7 Seasons of Man and Woman🙏

Is it your birthday today &? If so many, many happy returns to you! And yes like you I see all my Melbourne friends a-meeting in groups ( because it’s safe to and they had a serious lockdown and curfew) and think ‘oh if only!’
Another day of quietness yesterday which to be honest I don’t mind too much. I don’t really want to be mingling.Up early and out with doggy first thing. We’d had another layer of snow. So our foot/paw prints were first.
Made pancakes for our breakfast. I used up some lurking in the fridge strawberries.
Then we went round to my mums. I almost fell on my bum on a very slippy bit of someone’s path. All was crunchy and easy to walk on then whhhhhhoooops! Jerked my sore back and sore shoulder making them more sore. Was more careful on way home...you could see my whooooops foot/slide prints!
Went a nice long walk with doggy in the afternoon through the fields. Posted off something DD1 had forgotten. Knew mum had padded envelopes so was waiting till I went round there.Quick chat to friend on phone. Both of us were cooking dinner so we’d a spare half hour!I made a very nice chicken and bacon pie . Using up bits and pieces of veg and meat. Of course there was a leftover baked potato from work! And some RTC parsnips and proper food sprouts! Then took myself upstairs and watched Traces on iPlayer which I finished off this morning and enjoyed. We still have snow and it’s -7o this morning. Apparently we’ve to warm up to a heady 5o...shorts and tee shirt weather! Been out with doggy and can confirm it’s blooming chilly. Have a lovely day.15 -
& happy birthday
1. Managed to get a couple of little jobs done that I've been putting off.
2. Chat with my parents. My Dad has had his 2nd injection. His arm is a bit more sore than after 1st injection.
3. Had to go to supermarket and heard a little boy telling his Mum that he wants a high IQ when he grows up. He then asked what an IQ was.
4. Made a new recipe for tea which was tasty.
5. Enjoyed watching rugby between Bath and Wasps15 -
Tomorrow mhags🙂 - thankyou! The 'take care' thing is a multi-faceted exhortation. Falls are never good.
Shooting stick to hand tomorrow for &.
MandM - for some reason, your mse beginnings popped up while &'s pics downloaded. You have a 10-year anniversary tomorrow - most excellent date 😁❤.
Just a reminder - 11 new plantings seen yesterday.
All can be good, and your new life, adaptation, change is another embodiment of this, another one to really celebrate👏.

Days are blurred, and the nature of workplace means I see extremes of joy and despair, but there are still pleasures to be found.
My ritual late morning of lighting tealights in the kitchen, hall and living room, sometimes scented ones, to burn through till early evening, bringing light into the home.
Heavy snow the last couple of days turning my village into a winter wonderland, despite the troubles it causes. Able to reschedule a couple of appointments so I don't have to drive in it.
The habit of having a well-stocked pantry, fridge and freezer meaning no need to venture out on massive shopping expeditions.
Needed milk yesterday (son has a suppertime cereal habit) so pulled on the wellies and walked to local shop a few minutes walk away. Pleasure of seeing people out shovelling grit to release cars from their icy prisons, all in good spirits and displaying that community spirit.
The delight of doggy when she realised son was going to take her for an extra walk in the snow.
Lunch yesterday only light as son had meetings (online) over the day. Pate and cheese on homemade sourdough, lovely.
Taking the lid off The Beast (my sourdough starter) and being knocked sideways by the fumes of fermentation. It's time I made another loaf!
The joys of pets. I just nipped to the loo in the middle of this post, came back and senior cat has parked himself in the nice warm bit of the bed where I was before. The sense of entitlement is amusing. Well, he has just turned 12 so can be forgiven.
Yes, I am still in bed at 08:45. Because I can be. No guilt, seeing as when I am at work I am up at 05:45.
Online Big Sing party last night with Choir, and we had a taster of one of the new songs we are doing in the Spring term which starts next week. Can't wait!
Anticipation of delivery from online butcher today, I loves a well stocked freezer I does!
The joy of having good friends online (online not being OS but friendship and communion are). So much going on in many of our lives but we support each other and keep each other going. One life - your life - live it!16 -
Lovely pictures, thank you &
For yesterday,
Cold, grey day with no sunshine, ok in the morning when busy around house and also oven on baking bread & rock cakes but by lunchtime we caved and put the heating on, bbrrr.
The Postie came with parcels, my exchanged stirrups in right size (Capt S ordered correctly but wrong ones sent ) and six books from online secondhand shop. I am deliberately spending less time on social media so hurtling through my reading material.
No NSD for me as ordered equine girlie new turnout rug, she has matured & changed shape since first came to me and her current one is no longer quite big enough, pleasure was it was in a sale!
Walked small dog around the fields by which time the fog was coming down as well so home for a cup of tea with said cakes and candles lit.
The unexpected pleasure of an hours worth of the best bits of GW, blooms, veggies and sunshine, not forgetting seeing dear old NIgel again.

Going a bit Bala, with extra posts😁 , but nargle, a 'Me too!' moment here, re:back in bed. In fact, such moments might extend tha-a-a-a-a-a-at far. Also, a Don't Care. Looking outside, worst freezing fog yet. Silly, irresponsible even, to go out.
Vl - laughed aloud, your osp no.3, loved your overheard little boy+iq.😁
Big Bash listening on r5x, might renew hwb, much layered, but not going out any time soon.
Lainey, it's worse than yesterday already, by quite a bit imo.

Good morning all, pleasures for yesterday.....
I didn't have to go out at all. There was snow when I woke up but it had vanished in the rain by mid morning.
The HT had an email from his maths teacher saying that she had noted how much effort he'd made this week and that she was very pleased with him. He has dyscalculia so it's good to see him finally succeeding in a subject that has caused him so much trauma.
Small chat via message with my sister after her knee op. All successful and looking good.
Longer chat with best friend while online gaming. He'd had a stressful week but felt better once we started talking and playing.
My warm and comfy bed at the end of the day
Take care all of you15 -
Totally agree Ampersand, so cold and foggy, a day for home although suspect siren call of horsey girl will drag me out ☺️13
