Pleasures for today (Thursday)
1) Woken at the crack of dawn by the tumble dryer man. (Who phones to say they are on their way at 7am!?) Anyway, the tumble dryer has been fixed - second time lucky!
2) Had a bit of a tidy up downstairs, cleaned floors etc.
3) Porridge for breakfast, egg mayo for lunch, veg curry and rice for tea. Also made a tray of Belgian buns.
4) Hens OK.
5) Another morning of phone calls re smaller son. The new hoop to jump through today is that (apparently) you can't just appoint a solicitor for your child. You have to go to an independent firm of mediators first to prove that the relationship between you and the County Council has broken down. Well, I think it broke down quite a long time ago and certainly, after having smaller son with me constantly for 22 months, that relationship has entirely ended now! A nice lady at the mediators wished me luck and said I wouldn't have to be "mediated" and that she would send a certificate of mediate-y-ness by email. I had a few emails back and forth with smaller son's solicitor and sent her the mediation certificate. I sat and had a little ponder to myself as to what would happen to smaller son in the end, if no one ever does their job properly...
6) Bigger son came back from mountain biking at a particular circuit of jumps and had had a lovely time. 2 "old men" (by his standards!) asked him how to tackle various jumps and then had a discussion with him about the dangers. He said, "I wondered why they were staring intently at my mouth whilst talking about danger", then remembered his teeth!
7) Then I had an email. The solicitor was beginning the appeal about smaller son not having a suitable school place. (Later will be a re-write of his EHCP, then an enquiry as to why I was ignored for so long and why no procedure has been followed properly).
I looked at the email again, and it was from the County Council. I nearly couldn't be bothered to read it.
With no warning and no explanation, the idea last week about sending him to do an apprenticeship has been shelved and he now has a place at N College, where I wanted him to go in the first place. All will be put into place next week, transport is being sorted and that's it. Off to a Special Needs College, like I asked for in September 2019.
8) Did the online pub quiz with bigger son.14 -

I echo Ampersand Frith.
My Mum had a melt down this week. Too much stress and worry. Just since March my Dad was emergency rushed to hospital. This is going to sound funny but luckily I was there when it happened. I was the only one allowed in the hospital so I sat with him everyday. Calcification around the pancreas which blocked liver and pancreas (?). Then almost 6 months with my nieces at home with her all day everyday whilst their Mum was working. And then the awful happenings with my brother where it was touch and go for a while. She has coped brilliantly. My sister and I are doing our best to be supportive although from a distance. Glad my LD brother is still with me. Will keep him here as long as I can. He is no bother but I can carry the cloak of responsibility for now. My Mum needs a break.
I continue to enjoy the activity in the garden. I love watching the squirrels sit at the table with a very laissez-faire attitude. And now I have a name for one of my wood pigeons. I am convinced it's the same family of 3 that visit daily. Today one had plonked itself on the fence (was actually sitting) and am convinced it was waiting for me. Got up close and noticed that the white around it's neck was actually in splodges. So I now have Splodge the crow and Splodgie the wood pigeon. I have no imagination !
Our boiler has been on the blink for at least 2 years. Engineer coming today as we have no hot water or heating. Hopefully there will be a resolution.
For at least 2 years we had not mowed the lawn leaving it to 'meadow'. My OH wanted to pay someone but I was determined to find a way myself. My brother helped me over 2/3 days to cut it with a strimmer. It was yellow beyond belief with tall flattened grasses. It is now the lushest green with very few patches. It's actually fuller and more beautiful than it ever has been. Perhaps it too needed a rest.
Hope you all have a lovely day.................

Frith- great news about smaller son and college.
1. Busy day at work seeing interesting patients and as working at other site no pressure 're time and could do my job properly.
2. Cleaned the hens out. Good to spend time in the garden.
3. Quick chat with my neighbour.
4. Booked tickets on Saturday for a NT place in Norfolk. My ticket was for 10-10.30 and DH for 19.30-11. It was the only way I could manage it.
5. Packed for trip away to Norfolk to see DH Aunt who we met at his Mum's funeral for the first time.14 -
That’s great news Frith and testament to your sheer blooming persistence.
Ah Bala, the velvet nose of a horse, once you kiss it you are lost for ever.
For yesterday,
Tasty breakfast of honey on toasted soda bread and a banana.
Over to the yard and a schooling session with owner, it was drizzling when we started but halfway through the heavens opened and the wind really got up. My mare decided that if her stupid Mum wasn’t gone to stop she was so on the most sheltered corner of the school she stopped and backed us in! My friend and I were in hysterics. The rain however didn’t stop so we gave up and went back into the shelter of the barn.
Dried my girlie off and gave her some hay to warm up whilst I dried off our tack as best I could, then popped her waterproof rug on and put her back into the field, she was happy to be back on her grass.
Home, changed and then a big bowl of soup to warm me up.
Tasty tea of deer stalker sausages, all about the food today.ETA I joined in July 2015 and if memory serves me right my first post was on this very thread.13 -
Good morning
The sunrise this morning was almost golden. So beautifully autumny.
Frith - Phew! What a major achievement! And how sad that children who don't have parents as determined as you must be missing chances at a good education.
Bala - well done with the lawn! It will make you smile every time you catch sight of it.

New yoga teacher is very good. Really knew I'd done a class next day! New venue is smaller but floor marked out in crime scene tape squares and doors and windows open so felt safe and relaxed. Parking is difficult though so will have to get there early. Parking is not my strong point!
Gathering together bits and pieces for stocking fillers. I think there will be restrictions soon, so am doing things while we can.
Took DGD and DGS to Mac D's for tea. It used to be a regular trip but we haven't managed it for ages. It was good to see them and hear their news.
Little bit of stockpiling added to the weekly shop. It's something I always do at this time of year, in case we get a lot of snow/ ice. Just the odd extra tin or box of tea bags. I suppose this year it might be even more necessary but I shan't go mad. Our house is too small to do that.
Happy Friday everyone13 -
Hello. Enjoying a brief moment of peace ( though the dogs snoring isn’t very peaceful!) DD2 just gone out and son a5 work for another couple of hours ( and oh how he hates it
)
Up early.Went into town. Had a bag of stuff to hand in to a charity shop then came out with 3 tops and a pair of pretty crystal vases. Two for the tops were RTC at 64p each!Home and pottered around.Picked some flowers from garden for my new vases, they are just small so didn’t take long to fill them up.
Making BLT for tea.Doggy snuggles as always, need to go and walk him soon. It’s been an afternoon of heavy showers but bright in between and so cold!13
