It had defrosted by mid morning, now back into fridge and will bung on about 1ish
Growing up I remember frozen turkeys needing to be defrosted 2-3 days in advance. Ours was never that big, but still needed to be pulled out the day before Christmas Eve.

Even my 800g little turkey breast said to defrost 24-36 hours!

Mine was very specific, it was only a 1.8k crown, 24 hours in fridge. It would never have defrosted in time, it went in Xmas morning about 0800, still solid at 2300 last night

I had visions of the turkey scene from Royle Family Christmas special

I've been craving two hot sausage rolls. Resisted by cutting a slice of nut roast and eating that cold.

Sausage rolls might last the night.... but the pack will have to be opened and two will have to be eaten tomorrow at this rate!

New pack of mince pies opened, stollen sliced into for lunch

Turkey crown out of the oven, one slice sampled, just in case

Full set of roast stuff in, spuds, parsnips, leek, Brussels & carrots
Stuffing opened, ready to mix & roast in a bit

Christmas dinner, meat eater style, today

Bum, just remembered I have forgotten the bangers wrapped in bacon bit. Oh well, that's a meal or another day

  • farway, uht warm to 42 degrees, ie body warm. Fresh milk 82 first then cool down to 42

lovely lazy day today, still going next door to check all is ok. they had hammering rain on a balcony bedroom door last night, coming in below the door and possibility of wetting the carpet which is sisal and cannot be wetted. Secured with a towel. Doh, do they ever do maintenance, even I can go around with a mastic tube and washing up liquid on a finger

Tv today and too many nibbles but once they are gone, then that will be it, a few days worth left. I am recording a few programmes today so that I can read this evening, will be tucked in bed doing that, cosy electric blanket. Why would I want to stay up when I can be cosy. Rain is coming down hard again, not torrential though

DD and family had a lovely family day today, one of the reasons I came back last night, the christmas hol as a small family is over all too soon

I've barely touched my goodies really - but "it's felt like Christmas" just because I know they're there if I wanted to. Each time I open the fridge just the sight of a trifle brings joy to my world. I'll definitely get one every year from now on.

Over 2 days, I've had no breakfasts and apart from two "proper dinners" (just one course) I think/remember I've "just" eaten: 60g of chocolate biscuits, 3 mince pies, 250g bag of soft centres, 1 box of matchmakers, 2 packs of crisps, 1 small banana, 1 chocolate covered date, some mini marshmallows in a hot drinking chocolate.

On balance, considering the season, I don't think that's too shabby :)

    Good evening everyone,
I have had a lovely couple of day, very busy but I do so enjoy having the family all round the table:) though it's definitely a case of the younger folks picking up the leg work. Eaten and drunk more than I should and been completely spoiled with gifts.
Discovered a new (to me) cocktail - a "White Russian" which is a mix of vodka, tia maria, baileys and milk over lots of ice and topped with a sprinkle of cocoa powder, very yummy:D and a new "parlour" game via an ap on my son's phone called "Heads Up" which is hilarious and fab for a mixed age crowd.
I'm looking forward to a quiet few days (spent mostly I think putting things back where they should be) before the mayhem starts again on Saturday when we are having a "Greek" night before I need to organise steak pie for 11 on New Year's Day.
I'm really going to struggle come the 4th of January when it's back to being just me in the house:(

Kittie - that sounds like a real nightmare journey no wonder you are glad to be back in your own house.

Not sure what to eat today. Today it's almost "back to normal" ... in that it's back to not knowing what I'll be eating and having no specific plans/times.

I still have most of the turkey ... and I still have a trifle. No doubt there'll be a turkey & stuffing bread roll later today, just to use it up - using a big bread roll which I took out of the freezer last night.

And I've still an unopened pack of six sausage rolls in the fridge.

Not short of food - but no idea what I'll have yet.

    Good morning everyone,
I'm enjoying a cuppa while the offspring are still snoozing;).
Breakfast was a banana and a couple of satsumas but I'm not sure what the rest of the day will bring. I want to make a pot of turkey soup with some of the LOs and I must go through the fridge and see what needs using or freezing. The main challenge for today though is tidying up in preparation for "round two" in a few days:rotfl:
