That is strange as I was thinking about a cocktail I had years ago on Christmas day that my mum and aunt made for me, Black Russian. I couldn't remember the ingredients so I googled it yesterday, vodka and coffee liqueur. They put some coca cola in there too.
Oh "Black Russians" that takes me back to my mis-spent youth and probably a lot to do with why I can't stand cola in alcoholic drinks these days :o
I had a big bread roll, turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce.

I'd not bought/eaten cranberry sauce before this year, we never had it at home .... it's completely pointless isn't it. There's nothing special about the taste (L1dl/Batts).... it's "just like jam, but not so sweet".

    I'll not bother again.

I'm not a fan either PN. Nor of chestnut puree, even though I love roasted chestnuts.
I'm not a big fan of cranberry sauce except in a brie and bacon toastie, love chestnuts in any shape or form though:D

Last night's full on Turkey Christmas dinner turned out a success, even enjoyed the cold LO roasties that I noshed as I was about to put them away. The sprouts and leeks roasted well, but I think I got the timing wrong, they showed signs of carbonising before the rest of the meal. I took them out and bunged back in nearer scoff time, saved the day
Glad it all work for you:D

    Good Afternoon :)

I've arrived home laden with food (home made quiches, sausage rolls, mince pies etc), and now unpacked, realise it's enough to feed an army - but I'm not complaining :). It was good to get away for a few days, although at the time I was absolutely dreading it. Read back briefly and am glad to see you all enjoyed a little company at some stage and of course 'lots of seasonal fare'.

Kitty, sorry to hear about your journey home. Mine was a lot easier although I did encounter a really heavy rainstorm, followed by high winds and then by snow :).

Glad to be back home and am now off to pick up the cat from his hols - no doubt I will be given the cold shoulder for the next week or two :)
Sounds as though you're well stocked for the New Year, glad you had a good time :D

I'm feelig a little melanchoy today, it's the 15th anniversary of my Mum's death so the 27th is always a hard day:(. I've been trying to keep busy so in the middle of making a big pot of turkey soup with the wings and various left over bits. I think that with some cheese and crackers will do nicely for dinner tonight unless my younger son has other ideas. My elder son and his gf are out so just the two of us to please this evening:)

    It happened without warning .....

I shuffled through to the kitchen, not really looking for food. I opened, then shut, the fridge and thought "shall I get a bit of cold turkey out into a bowl and just eat it as finger food?" THEN ...... TRIFLE! I HAVE TRIFLE!

    I know .... I'll eat TRIFLE.

    So I did :)

I used a big spoon to get a good deep scoop of trifle out - bigger than 1/4, smaller than 1/3 ... and into a bowl. Scuttled off to scoff it :)

It's nice enough .... could do with deeper sponge and deeper custard. But it was trifle and hit the spot.

    :)

Ah, food parcels.... perfect as you won't have to "cook" for 2-3 days.... then the chip shop's open :)

Glad you got through your visit OK .... you can tell the cat all about it now!

Thank you PN :) As for the chip shop - I'm a reformed character and am determined to acquire new skills :)

Thank you caronc :). Sorry to hear you're feeling a little low, but glad you have family with you today.

I enjoyed a cooked breakfast this morning and so will settle with a couple of scones for tea. Haven't eaten scones for years, so quite fancy one.

Postie arrived this afternoon with the replacement on / off push switch for my dishwasher. Very quick service, I ordered it on Friday the 22nd, one weekend + Christmas in the middle and it arrived this afternoon

Now fitted and one working dishwasher is currently on a deep clean cycle. All under 13 quid, plus my labour of course:j

Dinner was the easy sliced cold turkey, with HM chips and some piccalilli, with two thin slices of stollen to follow

Could be posh Christmas cheese & crackers later
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

There's a whole great world out there of food to explore.

    Guess you've found Pinterest?

I'm currently going through collecting Pinterest pins on food that interests me. Now there's a thought for the day - as to whether anyone has put up boards on there for solo eaters (or perhaps more to the point sometimes here) solo CBA eaters.

Singles tend to have a lot of cba days re getting food together....

EDIT; and what do I find on there at very first glance - a board called "food for singles easy meals"...

    You're a clever chap Farway - I wouldn't have a clue :).

Money - I haven't found Pinterest, but my attention has been drawn to 'youtube tutorials' - some of which are excellent for duffers like me :)
