In the end I decided to use one of the spuds I bought. The date on the pack had said 4 October, I've got just one left now. Opened beans (last can!) and added grated cheese to the top.

Later on .... I had half a can of creamed rice and jam.

I'm in to those tins of rice at the moment :). I need to get some more today.

Sounds like you will have to go shopping soon, you are running out of most of the things that you use regularly.

My visitors left, and my sister turned up, so dinner was late -for me- so just did chips with the chicken and poured half jar of tomato and chilli sauce over it, then added cheese.

Whilst it was cooking I made the cauliflower soup, saving a couple of florets for Sunday tea.
Dropped a parmesan rind in while it cooked, then fished it out before I blitzed it. It may need some extra cheese when I eat it. That will be today's lunch when I get home from work. Another sister is calling today, so plan to have pasta with the rest of jar of sauce, and peppers ,onion, and mushrooms, for tea. X

    Good morning everyone,
I thought I had cleared up last night's yoghurt disaster quite thoroughly but no in the daylight there were still many splatters on doors etc. so I've been busy cleaning those. I'm not convinced I'v got it all but have abandoned ship for a cuppa.
I got a little bit of the garden cleared for winter yesterday and if it stays dry hopefully I'll get some more done. I need to hoover though which always exhausts me so might need to toss a coin between the too :(
I've passatta & mozzarella left from last night so gnocchi tonight I think for an easy meal to use them up :). I've a crusty roll defrosting as I fancy egg mayo and cucumber for lunch.

    Morning :)
My Riverford box gets delivered today so last night I baked any veg left from last week's box. So lunch today is the last portion of carrot and fennel soup I made on Tuesday followed by some cold parsnips, aubergines, sweet potato, tuna fillet, large tub of cottage cheese, half an avocado and my beetroot hummus

    Have a good day all

Glad - is there enough for 2 (though I'll pass on the tuna fillet as I'm not keen on fresh tuna)?:) Sounds a lot more exciting than my egg mayo & cucumber roll even a "rainbow" of cherry toms on the side can't "jazz" it up that much. That said I'm sure I will enjoy it. :)

As the beans were open and the cheese grated, I decided to use the last of the baking potatoes I bought.... they were the YS ones I got at Sainsbobs for £1 for 2.5Kg.

I've been writing out a list of "food I need" - from the three local shops.

Sainsbobs list only has baked beans on it though. Oooh and blancmange, nearly forgot to put that on the list.
L1dl is chips, joint of beef, part-baked baguette.
4ldi is basmati, bread, eggs, special offer spuds.

Then there's a list of "from either 4ldi/l1dl" which is flour and milk.

And a random list of "things to maybe pick up" which is fish fingers, garlic granules, onion granules.

But I CBA to go out and get any of the above right now. There are other thoughts in my head preventing me moving forward on the above purchases.... such as:

I wish I had the right dish for big Yorkies and toad/hole ... should I drive 6 miles to another L1dl as that's apparently a "new style" one with vertical freezers .... should I get sausage rolls..... if I go to the further L1dl should I check out Mr T & Morries websites first and consider other items for the list and do a big round robin? And "if you're getting that beef, should you get carrots....and what about Yorkies, you need that dish"

    Stress = choice ....

Caron - I've been giving some more thought over the last day or so re getting housework done and remembering the idea on "old style" MSE board re 15 minute bursts of activity.

I just know I loathe and detest housework and would cheerfully pay someone else to do it if I could:
    a. afford it
    b. find the right person.

But I know I've got reasonable standards imo as to what standard the house should be like and have now come to the conclusion that the best way I can manage to get it done is to (reluctantly) introduce a bit of "routine" into the equation - as, if I follow the logic of doing it when there's nothing better to do = I get resentful at spending 2-3 hours at a stretch doing the housework (rather than what I want).

So - I've only got a small house and it's on one level (courtesy of being a bungalow) and I've now worked out my latest attempt to ensure it's done without impinging too much on me that I get fed-up and abandon it for something more interesting.

So - my house has one kitchen, one bathroom, is bungalow and the plan I've just worked out (which should see me spending no more than 30 minutes per day on housework - with possibly a tiny bit more on Sundays - and Sundays are very "quiet" in this part of the country:() is:

MONDAY - bathroom (except the shower cubicle)
    TUESDAY - shower cubicle
WEDNESDAY - hoover sitting room and bedroom
THURSDAY - hoover study and hallway
FRIDAY - do kitchen sink and kitchen units
SATURDAY - clean out fridge and do kitchen floor
SUNDAY - do the washing/do any ironing/change bed/breadmaking (if feeling "virtuous" enough not to think "Blow it - I'll just buy some").

I've done my own time and motion study on this - based on things like the layout of the place means I can just start the hoovering by removing the hoover from hallway cupboard and it's literally 2' across the hallway to the sitting room and then I take the hoover up to the bedroom and do that and leave it in bedroom (ie where no-one can see it). Next day it's there in room next to study ready to do the study the following day and then go down the corridor (hoovering as it goes) to go back into the hall cupboard.

Well - "experts" do time and motion studies on workers in factories (and even offices these days:eek: - having been on the receiving end of a bit of that:mad:). So why wouldnt I do the same for work in my own home?
  • I've timed myself to see how long basic housecleaning jobs take.:o

It takes me 5 minutes to vacuum upstairs and 5 minutes to vacuum downstairs so I often do one or the other at 5 minutes to 1 before the BBC news starts.:p

I was cold and damp from the rain when I got in (I didn't bring an umbrella!) and I just threw some veggie sausage rolls in the oven and had them with ketchup.:D

    Oh what a night :(

Yesterday's dinner, pie & steamed fresh veg was lovely. But oh my how I have regretted the loads of broccoli. Bloated like a Michelin Man or Peter Griffin :o

Awake most of the night, and sat here in my slummy dressing gown still with tum ache

I have thought before that brassica family were no longer agreeing with me, and now I know 100%. Shame because I do like broc / cabbage / sprouts but in future it will be only a spoonful just for taste

So folks, there will be no CFO today, just sipping tap water

I had a quick search on line, so may try some peppermint or ginger infusion later, if I fancy something other than water that is
