Caron - has it sunk in yet that you're now officially retired?
No not yet and probably won't until they sort my pension out. I still don't have the figures as they have lost part of my records so I'm still very much in limbo.......

    Good afternoon everyone,
Finally the rain seems to be clearing :D , it was absolutely tipping it down earlier!
As I suspected I have a horrible medication hangover today so have been downing endless cuppas to try and lift it. Cheesy beans on toast for brunch has helped, I've not had this for ages and really enjoyed it. :D
Apart for my sister popping round later I'm for a quiet day.

I had planned to make HM pizza tonight, but won't want cheese again so have swapped my "plan" about and I'm having fish & rice stew instead.:)
  • I'm feeling sorry for myself as I'm still ill and so I had a vegan cheesecake with a few cups of green tea for breakfast. Delicious!

I had a Quorn cutlet with lots of fresh spinach, tomatoes and cucumber for lunch. I also had a wholemeal roll with vegan marg.

I've got a stir fry with edamame, broc, fresh coriander etc...for dinner and I'm having it with brown rice and marinated tofu.

I'm sure I will eat more than that today as I have my appetite back at least.:D

I had something very upsetting in the post this morning and I think it is likely that it will take me a good week or so to settle down again so am unlikely to cook much if at all.

    ((Hugs))xx:(
Other experiment with dinner was white carrots. Blander flavour than yer standard orange carrots - okay - but might as well save the money etc etc again verdict.

Yes, I had white carrots when I used to get an organic veg box, they didn't look right to me and didn't taste the same as normal ones.:D

I relieved the freezer of one frozen burger and one frozen large bread roll.
Duly defrosted etc .... squirt of ketchup and that was lunch :)

Burger was a caramelised onion one stuffed with cheddar.

Managed to burn my top lip and tongue with the first bite!

I'll probably have a jacket spud/cheese later, as I've a spud to eat.

I'm out of a lot of items now: bread, flour, eggs, potatoes, basmati, frozen chips ... and getting low on baked beans. So I expect I'll have to go shopping at some point in the next few days.

I do think at intervals that the income is just coming into my bank account now - and I'm not having to either do a job or "prove" I'm looking for work in order to get that income. Whew!!!! That IS a big relief to know the money is going to keep coming in regardless from here on in.

Same here, I took voluntary redundancy, but signed on dole to keep the National Insurance going, even though I had no intention of getting another job. I never claimed any cash, just NI stamp part. Filling in the "looking for work" sheets was a struggle at times without being it becoming obviously repetitive fables. Once the redundancy cash was safely banked I stopped going to Job Centre

Dull mizzley day, and Lild only had one YS I fancied, ham slices, not proper ham, the "formed from" type, not something I normally buy but I just fancied it once I had spotted it

Lunch was some of the YS ham with HM chutney in a sandwich

Dinner is revisit yesterday, breaded fish, frozen chips, one tray in oven, with nuked frozen peas

Sad news on the boiler, still losing pressure, bloke coming Friday, looks like it is the Pressure thingy. Oddly enough with money talk & income I had just used MS Money programme for checking Income V Expenditure. Yay, still on plus side :j:beer: So boiler not a cause for worry, just throw money at it

Sorry to hear you are still poorly Wednesday:(
Farway - here's hoping the your boiler is [STRIKE]cheap[/STRIKE] easy to fix ;)

I've had my planned quite afternoon amusing myself on the Lakeland website :rotfl:, I have been given a voucher for there from very kind ex-colleagues as a retirement gift :D. I've banged on numerous times on this thread about my lack of smaller cooking dishes and my love of enamel ware so I'm going to use it stock up on these. I'm thinking of the 16 & 18cm sizes as these should cover most of my needs. I've not completed the transaction yet so if anyone thinks otherwise please shout :)
  • I'd think one or two of those traditional enamel pie-dishes in 16cm and 18cm might be a good idea for you Caron.

Has feeling Pastures would agree with me...

Thanks, yes I think these are a good CFO size, the measurements look ok. I'm also thinking of some of the "pudding" bowls that I can then fill with things (like stew) and use as an "insert" in my slowcookers & pressure cooker. I want to use my pressure cooker more but I'm limited just now as it needs a minimum fill!

I have a few of these from Lakeland in the 16 and 18cm and I find them really good. I get a lot of use from them, and have found them to be good quality.

The fact is, there is no single "perfect size" of dish ... each meal of "one portion" requires a different dish because in your mind's eye it's a certain size for you.

I have two sizes of the tins - neither ever turn out to be "the perfect size" for anything when it's actually time to use one for a specific item.

I think the thing to do is just buy some and accept that you have "more small dishes than you used to have, so one is likely to be closest to perfect when it's time to use one".

So true - I think I will get them but no doubt will still be muttering on about not having the right-sized dish :rotfl:
