    Hollyharvey sending you hugs:grouphug:

I unfortunately tend to eat more when upset or bored.

Farway, I did soak the fruit all morning, and it could be the flour, then again as we had to keep adding liquid I might have been over mixed. But don't worry as it wasn't bad enough not to eat it!!!
I'm about to have a slice with custard, just had a jacket spud that I cooked in oven yesterday, so nuked to warm then just butter and pepper.
My lunch out with friends was salmon with white wine and dill sauce ,new pots and veg. Always taste better when it's been made by someone else.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.
  • HH sorry to hear you had upsetting news, doesn't matter what you are eating so long as you are eating - Me in moments of stress, upset or crises...I make soup! :D

I'm very envious of all you "ladies who lunch" seems like forever since I've done that - this is something I need to rectify, soon.

It's been ages since I made my own yoghurt, I used to do it in a thermos but I read somewhere on here that some people make it in the slow cooker and so I've got my first batch on the go. Will let you know tomorrow how it went.

I wasn't very hunger this morning so just had a pear, but pigged out on a sausage sandwich for lunch. I made a batch of pancakes (dropped scones) this afternoon and I'll have a couple at supper time with my malted drink.

I have a side salad all organised I just need to go now and 'nuke' my chicken curry and naan bread

  • Lunch today was toast spread with vegan cream "cheese" and some avocado on top, followed by a pear.

Snack - some sprouted wheat bread.

Just had dinner. Experimental mode still on - so I had some of those CFO blimmin' leftovers (this time - dahl with tomatoes and kale in) with few dollops of hot sauce (as it didnt feel flavoured enough for me).

With some sorghum seeds - first time I've had that - though the packet has been in my larder for a while to try now. Thinks - well - they're okay I guess. Bland flavour per se and think I might just as well use giant couscous instead for same effect (cheaper/quicker to cook). Still - now I've finally opened the packet then I shall try the other 2 main ideas that come up as to how to use them - so as breakfast cereal and popped like popcorn. Verdict - I can eat them - but might as well save the money on what is a rather expensive grain - and have another one instead.

Other experiment with dinner was white carrots. Blander flavour than yer standard orange carrots - okay - but might as well save the money etc etc again verdict. Bit of hummus with it all and that was dinner today.

    Good evening,

    I'm sorry you're upset Holly <<hugs>>
An adventurous day for me today as for the first time in 18 months I went to a restaurant for lunch  , it did require fairly major meds which will give me a horrible "hangover" tomorrow but oh it was worth it. :D The restaurant looks over the marina & harbour which is always so interesting to watch. We had the "lighter lunch" option of two courses for £12. I had haggis, neeps & tatties with whisky gravy to start and haddock goujons, chops, mushy peas and tartare sauce for mains. A couple of the girls had puds instead of starters and they looked lovely. Portions weren't massive so I certainly don't feel over full and the food was really good. Not what I'd call a "lighter" option though...... :D
We did eat fairly early though and I skipped breakfast so annoyingly I'm beginning to feel rather peckish now. I thought I might only want a piece of toast or a crumpet this evening but I think I might want something a bit more substantial than that:o

Yes I was peckish - bubble & squeak, beans, egg:o. I can't actually remember when I last had baked beans! Beans on toast tomorrow to use up the can:D.
  • Caron - has it sunk in yet that you're now officially retired?

I know you felt differently about your job than I did - and, personally, it still strikes me at intervals that I don't wake up thinking "Thank goodness I don't have to go in there again today". I'd expected to think that every day for quite some time. Though, in my case, it may be down to the fact that I only ever pass my old workplace (and duly give it appropropriate "salute" on doing so) when I'm back on visits to the area. So on one or two weeks a year - I'm going past it and thinking "Thank goodness I'm out of it" type thoughts.

I do think at intervals that the income is just coming into my bank account now - and I'm not having to either do a job or "prove" I'm looking for work in order to get that income. Whew!!!! That IS a big relief to know the money is going to keep coming in regardless from here on in.

.... the money is going to keep coming in regardless from here on in.
This is the big "relief" with pension .... it comes and it won't stop coming. You can make extra, by any means, if you wish, without endless form filling or having to prove/justify what you've got to the nth degree.

It won't be "taken off you" because of an investigation, or an arbitrary timespan has been reached.

While standard rate old age pension might not "be a lot" - it is CONSISTENT - and lack of consistency is a huge factor of stress throughout life.

Even if it were just £10/week and you were living in a shed - at least that £10 would arrive!

When I retire I'll just be on single person's old age pension - and have to run/maintain my own house on it.

As you say - the consistency is a major thing here.

When I was still working I used to think along dual track lines - ie of "basic income" (ie the salary from my job) and "other income" (whatever else I could manage to make on top of that from anywhere). It threw me rather the times when "other income" I'd bargained on didn't turn up as due (eg lodgers letting me down - during the years I took them in).

I've also had spells on the dole and my mind is boggling at how long claimants of "Universal Credit" are expected to wait for payment of a claim to start. Also my mind was boggling anyway at all the deductions from dole that happen these days (ie paying a portion of Council Tax, almost certainly having to pay a bit of the rent from it, etc).

Thankfully, I've got Civil Service pension on top of State Pension personally. It was not my idea of "fun" when I had to live on Civil Service pension only for the first couple of years of retirement (courtesy of a Revised State Pension Age).

But...yes....consistency and being able to plan that "That bill is coming out of this income due on x date" and "This cost is coming out of that income due on y date".
  • Morning All,

HM strained yoghurt and stewed apples for breakfast :j . Egg salad for lunch and Macaroni cheese, carrots & peas for tea, this will be the first fresh cooked meal for over a week :o but its back to using freezer stock tomorrow.

I need to go tidy my freezer, update my inventory and there is some very bendy celery in the fridge that needs my attention.
