De-scaling kettle
Comments

I used neat limejuice once - in the kettle & the loo - did a pretty good job I have to say!I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

Once you've de-scaled it with vinegar one of those scrunched up wiry things that you can buy does help, the scale collects on it then you can just soak that in vinegar.0

I also find it useful when vegetable parers go rusty. I just put a vinegar in a small container and leave it for a couple of hours, rinse and it`s clear again.
I found malt vinegar in Asda for 15p today! :j0 -
OK i live in VERY hard water area and have to descale my kettle so often i am getting less cups of tea ( major tea drinker i am i need my tea).
So my question is is there anything better and cheaper to use to descale my kettle other than Oust that i use at the moment. I get through so much of it.
Any ideas appreciatedStill TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

Good Ole Vinegar
Infact keep a good supply if you like in a hardwater area and use on any limescale and in your washing machine and dishwasher. Will help prevent limescale building up in there

You can get a little thing that looks like a small brillo pad in kitchen shops that absorbs the limescale and then you just clean it in vinegar and not the whole kettle. (NB it doesn't have soap in like a brillo pad!!!!!!!!!)“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Not really os but have you thought about one of those scale wizard things - my gasman really recommends them. I cant do it at the moment as the boiler needs moving first but I will be buy one of these.0

Hi Essex-girl,
I know what you mean about tea - couldn't live without it.:p
Put equal parts of white vinegar and water into your kettle. Boil and leave to stand overnight. The following morning a good rinse should do, but if necessary just give a good swoosh round with a washing up brush and rinse well.
I live in a hard water area and it works very well on my kettle.
If you know of any chinese supermarkets near you they sell 5L bottles of white vinegar mega-cheap, or maybe your local takeaway might sell you a bottle if you're on friendly terms. It's just under £2 up north. HTH
PS I've been told those little brillo pad things that you leave in the kettle can cause hot spots on the element, but if yours is one with a sealed element it shouldn't be a prob.0 -
