If it's not too bad, try citric acid powder & boiling water (it's a kettle...so switch it on)
We use this for the baby's steam steriliser too.0 -
I put enough vinegar (brown is fine!) to cover the element & scale, switch the kettle on - watch it, cos when it begins to boil it makes a mad rush to escape!!! switch it off as soon as the vinegar begins to rise, then leave it to cool down.
I usually boil a couple of kettlefuls of water afterwards & pour them away, to get rid of the vinegar flavour before using it for drinks again.0 -
Thanks everyone, I will be doing that this evening :beer:0

Hey all after some advice please...
What is the best way to de-scale a kettle ?
Thanks in advance guys x0 -
hi stikiuk
You can get a proprietary descaler or what I do is use 50:50 white vinegar & water, pour into kettle covering the element and leave for an hour or two, should shift it, do not boil but rinse several times and boil before using and rinse again just to get rid of any of the vinegar.

I use just vinegar and fill to just past the element - boil - turn off before it fizzes over and then leave for a bit and then redo if it needs it with the same vinegar - works a treat but stinks!I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080

I too use neat vinegar and boil 2 - 3 times. Stefejb is right - it stinks!! But nothing beats it for shifting limescale. Remember to rinse several times before using.I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0

lemon juice is also great at shifting the limescale.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

Hi stikiuk,
There's an older thread on descaling a kettle so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.
