    Hi,

I use white vinegar to descale my kettle and showerhead too and it works a treat.
In fact, vinegar has a multitude of uses..try looking on the Vinegar Institute web site for other great tips..not sure of the URL but Google should find it.

Love this idea Toozie, thanks. I'll try that next time (after my mishap with the vinegar solution!). Coke doesn't fizz out the spout too does it?

Funny, I did this last night, with value lemomade found on the reduced shelf at Sommerfield for 10p as the label was almost off!

Only fill the kettle 3/4 full (3/4 to the fill level) it will fizz, but not out onto the work top, only up to the lid of the kettle.

Left the boiled lemonade in my sink all night, now that sparkling too!

I remember hubby came home once whilst I was 'coking the kettle' and made a coffee with the boiled lemonade....should have seen his face!!!! :D

Fill it with water to the line of the scale and then add white vinegar. Leave for a few hours or overnight. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if necessary. ;)

    I always use that.

Yes the white vinegar works I seem to recall that you add it to hot water and boil kettle it seem to shift quickly when I boiled it rather than let it cool down as when I did it the first time around.

    Hi specsappeal,

We have an older thread on descaling kettles that should help, so I have merged your thread with it as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

I write a note on a bit of paper and put it in front of the kettle to remind me (and anyone else that goes to make a cuppa) - me in the morning is not a time for thinking!! ;)
