Avis will accept your credit card provided you are present and have photo id. They will also take Visa Debit. Can't help with Hertz though sorry! I think National take Maestro too.

I would have thought that it does nto matter who pays for it as long as they have a cc to charge anything to.

Might be worth trying some smaller local firms they might be more helpful.

    Hello all,

Me and the girlfriend are attempting to rent a car for the first time for over this weekend.

I cannot drive but have a credit card, my girlfriend has a drivers license with no credit card.

Does this mean we cannot rent a car? Hertz didnt want to know about us, and they had the best deal with Travelocity.

What does it mean? Never done this before. Help advice mucho appreciated

Go to ENterprise Rent-A-Car, they will rent to practically anyone - they don't care!!!! :rotfl:

Thanks to the vey useful advice on this forum I am now ready to book my car hire for our holiday this summer. We are flying into San Francisco and out of Las Vegas with lots of travelling in between.

I am a little unsure which car to go for, being unfamiliar with the choices. I think the Chrysler Voayager may be the best choice as we are a family of 5; all adult size. Although we don't need the 7 seats the extra space would be useful - we usually drive a Galaxy.

I am not sure if the other car options eg Chrysler 300 or Jeep Grand Cherokee would offer enough room for us to travel comfortably.

    Can anyone advise?

    Thanks
  • one thing you need to think about is the security of your luggage when you are travelling about. 5 adults is probably a lot of luggage to secure

We've just come back from Florida and we had a Dodge Gran Caravan (Virtually the same as a Chrysler Voyager). Good car, was impressed with it, there were 4 adults with 2 kids, we took 5 suit cases, 4 hand luggage bags, 1 pram and a car seat and got it all in OK. Although 1 case had to go inside the car/van but this is only to and from the airport and there was space. They also have 2 compartments behind the front 2 seats that you can put smaller bags in which are under your feet. The windows are all blacked out so you cannot see inside.

Carwise, its higher up so you can see whats going on, automatic easy to drive etc. I would recommend it and when we go back I would go for the same car/van again.

Thanks for the reply. I have just looked at the car on the Chrysler website, I was a little concerned that the tripe row of seats are at the back. In the Galaxy when we are travelling the children sit in the middle 3 seats and the back ones are folded down so we have plenty room for luggage. This car will not give us that option, as the centre section has only 2 seats, so one person will have to sit in the back. Looking at the images for the car it does look like it is bigger than the Galaxy and, as you say you, managed to fit in 6 people and luggage. We are doing a tour in California so on all of our long journeys the car will have to take all of our luggage which will be 5 suitcases, accompanying hand luggage and one extra very large holdall to bring back all of the clothes my 3 teenage daughters buy!! The blacked out windows should address the security issues.
