  • Hi Guys,

I am looking at hiring a car in Britian, and using it to drive to the French Alpes this summer, but when looking on the Net for prices it claims to be unlimited milage, but doesn't state whether the car can be taken abroad?

So I have been quoted about £167 for 9 days unlimited milage, do you think the price will go up when I tellthem I am taking it to France?
    ur thoghts.

    Cheers

I believe you are in for a shock when you ask the price!

I made enquiries to rent a people carrier to take to France a few years back - it would have been cheaper to buy the people carrier!

Maybe prices have settled now. Don't be tempted to not tell them you'll be taking it abroad - it will invalidate your insurance.

Why not consider flying? I know its not the greenest of options, but you don't have to pay for the ferry, or the fuel costs to drive down, or the toll charges, etc etc, and then hire a car when you get there. It's quicker so you'll probably get an extra day and a half of holiday too!

Cheap car hire was available via the Flybe.com website using Avis. ( Make sure you click on the Flybe button at the top of the Avis page)

    In a word YES.

The T&Cs of all UK car hire companies will normally state that you cannot take the vehicle out of the country it was hired in, without extra payments (usually three arms and five legs).

    You're a star, thanks. :D

Verdict from relatives in Canada is that you can't hire cars under 21 there. Apparently most of the well known companies won't hire under 25.

    Try www.alamocarba.com

Far cheaper than Alamo's own website!!

Alamo rates are Fully Inclusive if you choose the Gold or Fully Inc rates. No extras. You will only be offered these ones on that website.

You will need to join BA Executive Club first to use this site, however it is free to join for anyone now:

    Hi

i am looking to hire a car for a month in New zealand and although they all seem to come with insurance, it means a high excess.

Most allow you to pay extra to reduce the excess or even make it nil.

I have see `car hire excess insurance` but is it any good.

You take out standard policy with car hire co and then this seperate cover which in the event of a claim, will pay out to cover the excess.

One of the co I was looking at was based in Dublin, could that be a problem?

The cost of their policy was £60, while the car hire co want £180!

I'm looking to hire a car in italy (from marco polo Venice airport) for 10 days from 11th June.

It's the first time we've hired a car abroad and I'm really confused. I've read Martin's article and checked the 'screenscrapers' for price comparisons. I'm looking for an economy (Corsa-ish sized) car with 4 doors and air con.

The biggest point that i'm unsure about is deposits. I've found the car we wanted for £205 from easycar but having read the T&C's they want a 800-1100 euro credit card deposit. Is this normal? We'll really struggle to find that.

However I looked at a car from Budget that was £230 but made no mention of a deposit?

Does anyone have any experience with this? Or any recommendations for Car Hire in Italy?

    Thanks!

Try economycarhire.com. Just booked car hire from Bari paying by debitcard. Found this carhire to be excess free ie no hidden extras no insurance excess Additional drivers are also free
You will pay slightly more but worth it for peace of mind, having trawled the price comparison sites which do not mention with the quote any excess you'll pay .It is a minefield with extras all quoted in euros. Good luck

    Hello all,

Me and the girlfriend are attempting to rent a car for the first time for over this weekend.

I cannot drive but have a credit card, my girlfriend has a drivers license with no credit card.

Does this mean we cannot rent a car? Hertz didnt want to know about us, and they had the best deal with Travelocity.

What does it mean? Never done this before. Help advice mucho appreciated
