  • My dad has just booked a car online with Hertz over the Xmas period. He has done this using a Visa Debit card (he has no credit card) and the payment appears to have gone through and the confirmation email has been sent.

According to the terms and conditions they don't accept debit cards, so is there going to be a problem when he goes to collect the car? I could go with him and use my credit card, but that won't work as it's in my name not his.

I called the office but the woman there did not seen to know. Does anyone know anything about whether they accept Visa Debit.

They will let you pay, as your Dad has done, with a debit card but need a credit card to cover any excesses and fuel etc. It also says they will accept a cash deposit to cover these possible liabilities but best to organise that well beforehand if at all possible.

Just to round this off for anyone who does a search on this in future: it was all fine. I eventually spoke to a manager at the branch who said Visa Debit was the ONLY debit card you could use for the deposit and fuel etc, so it would be fine, he hired the car and has now returned it, no problem whatsoever. This was Marble Arch by the way.

I have an annual US ins policy that has CDW/UMP for US as I am going to florida for xmas. I have just booked for 4 weeks in July/Aug (amazing price from continental on expedia!!) and am now looking to get car hire but with the minimum basic ins and then use my annual top up - I cant find any that are quoting anything but full cover. Any ideas would be very grateful
  • Hi,

I'm going to LA for a month in June, I've been looking for cheap car hire, as both drivers are under 25 (22 and 21). I've found a reasonable quote from supercheapcar.com as they have a young persons package, but has anyone had any experiences with them? I don't want to get there and have any problems.

    Thanks in advance.
