I live 1.5 miles from the telephone exchange our speed should be around 6.5 to 7mb, this does depend on quality of cable and connectors etc.

I think you could be looking pretty close to 7.5 +

I'm over 2km from my exchange  and I usually get between 3 and 5 mbps.

I don't use xbox live myself but have used the link for PC gaming, and it's absolutely fine. No lag, no drop outs.

The most impressive thing for me about O2 has been the P2P speed. No throttling at all, and I regularly get over 600 kbps downloads.

Applied for my MAC code, they tried to persuade me to stay with them, to be honest I was really angry, they've been telling me that the speed I'm getting for £21.99 is the highest I can have and then today they are telling me I can have up to 5 meg @ £9.99 for 6 months and then £14.99 thereafter, needless to say I declined

As a update to my switchover to O2 from Pipex which was due today....

I lost my connection to Pipex sometime between 9am and 10.50am.... not sure when as I was not at my PC. I still have no connection and have just rung O2 to find out the status. He said normally the switchover is done within 2 hours (obviously this is takinglonger) - the Pipex engineer goes in an removes me and notifies O2 who then go in and set me up. He said he has not had a case of it taking more than a day so I should expect it this afternoon. Despite the setback of not having a connection the customer services is quickly answered, knowledgable and quite reassuring.... so am not too frustrated yet. But for people reliant on the internet - don't bank on the switchover being swift - and you can't have 2 broadband suppliers active at the same time on one line.

I was told that it was BT that actually did the switchover because it was their line, not Pipex/O2 or whoever:confused:

Errrr. Well my laptop seems to connect to mysteriously wirelessly connect to the internet when placed in certain positions in my house. Can't imagine how that could happen! ;)

Tractorgirl.... That's just what the bloke told me. Maybe the BT disconnected Pipex but 02 people have to set me up as I am pretty sure O2 have their own equipment at the exchange (which is why I am hoping it will be better than Pipex).
