:jMy broadband was activated yesterday and i am very happy with the speed (i am on the 8 meg pakage) and also how easy it was to setup the braodband. 02 already set you a WEP code so you could just plug the router and you have instant internet access. I transfreed from aol who were rubbish, was with them for 5 years.
My brother is aslo on the same pakage and he gets around 16308 kbps :rotfl:0 -
Received this e.mail from o2 today.
Nice to see they're working in the background when you don't know it.
Dear *** *****,
Now that your O2 Broadband Premium package is live, our engineers have been able to test the line speed. Unfortunately, it's not as fast as we hoped it would be when you ordered.
There could be several different reasons for this. Your line may be unable to support the speed due to the distance from the phone exchange, or the quality of the wire, to your house, which, unfortunately, we can't do anything about. However, it could be the way O2 Broadband is set up in your home, which we can help you sort out easily.
Give us a call and we can talk you through some simple steps to try and improve the line speed. The number's 0800 230 0202 free from a landline, or drop the first '0' to call free from an O2 mobile.
But if it turns out there's nothing we can do, we obviously don't want to charge you for a service you can't receive. So we'll switch you to a more suitable broadband package like O2 Broadband Standard. It's free to switch and we'll adjust your monthly bill where necessary.
Best regards

I got the same email and they tested my line and talked me through a few things before bumping me down to the standard tarrif as I'm not getting enough speed to justify paying for the premium.
I was quite happy they emailed me to say, it seems quite honest of them. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -
We're thinking of changing from Bulldog to O2, and will get the £7.50 rate as we both have O2 mobile contracts. The Quidco £25 cashback is tempting too. We’ve had to remove your signature. Seems a "no brainer" at the moment as you get the £25, plus 100 days to decide if you want to stay.
If you don't, they give you all your money back (would be £22.50 if you stayed 3 months).
So we could return to our present ISPs if the grass turns out to be not so green at neglible cost.0 -
Well, we've gone for it, I signed up this afternoon, and the £25 is showing on my Quidco account already :T :T :TWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

When I set up my package,I had speed issues, insofar as I opted for the 16 meg deal, but was only getting around 3 meg.
To be fair to o2,they were checking my usage, (See my letter above.) and I couldn't put my finger on it,as to why my speeds were so slow.
Then it hit me.
My router was 15 metres away from the BT socket,on an extension using the thin BT cable, and this,it turned out,was where the problem was.So I swapped the BT line, for a 15 metre Ethernet cable this evening, thereby moving the router to within 2 metres of the main BT socket, and lo and behold,I'm now getting around 7.5 meg download, and around 900 average upload.
Obviously because the router has been switched off,I'll need to give it a day or two to settle, and if I can't get any higher speed, then I'll hold o2 to their promise of lowering my package/price.
But all in all,I'm very happy.
