it's unlikely to increase by much, the settling period normally just icreases stability as opposed to major speed increases. It's likely your distance from teh exchange and other factors limits what your max speed will actually be(along with wiring etc. as you have found out)

ali137 did you have any trouble uninstalling the AOL software and then presumably using Internet Explorer or some other browser?

    Hi

I have been aol broadband for over two years now and i have never used aol software to browse the web as you have a router with broadband there is no need foor the aol software. Just use Firfox, much better then internet explorer.

But i would say that o2 is much better then aol, and if your contract is about to run out with aol, then switch to o2.:j
  • Anyone using their own router rather than the 'o2 wireless box' provided?

We have a netgear router that works fine (in fact we have 2 but are only using 1) and are happy with it - do we 'have' to use o2s router?

We're using a Netgear router and have a redundant brand new O2 wireless box - not sure what to do with it tbh. The O2 box is a re-packaged Thomson Speedtouch 780WL wireless modem/router with VOIP, but it's locked to O2 so it's of no use to anyone other than another O2 user .

Settings for Netgear wireless router are:
    Basic:
    No Log In required
    Automatically get Dynamic IP
    Automatically detect ISP
Enter MAC address of your Netgear Router

    Multiplexing:
    LLC-Based
    VPI 0
    VCI 101

I'd keep it somewhere safe to be honest as they want it back when your contract finishes. they charge £100 for non return I think(well Be* do)

I've set a BT business hub with the details juts like above and thatworks fine also. As long as the router is ADSL2+ compliant there should be no issue otherwise with other routers you may be limited to 8MB max sppeds

I called O2 before signing up and they confirmed that the router was mine to keep - they suggested giving it away if I didn't want it! :)

Is that definite, I thought both Be and O2 were both doing the same and providing 'loaned' equipment to simplyify their support (i.e. if you don't use our router you don't get support on it), whether they have just changed their terms since you signed up

Oooops, you may be right there Woby_Tide :o .

Seems like the CS lassy was talking carp...I've just read the T&Cs and it quite clearly states that the modem has to be returned in the supplied postage paid envelope within 30 days of termination of the contract or a fee of £50 will be charged. So much for asking if I wanted a discount for not having their router or suggesting I give it away then...
  • I dumped virgin last month and following the good posts on this site about O2 i thought i would move to them.

    Applied last night at 10:30.

3 texts today with updates, with a live date of 26th.

    Completely impressed at the mo.
